Ya, it's a partial image of the buildings it looks like. If you highlight it, it's the full image.

 Thanks Jake. It just looks really short and out of proportion for some reason. Thanks for the larger image Jeff.

The top image has cropped out part of the end building on the right but the second larger one hasn't. If you look closely, there's an awning on the side of the building on the right end that doesn't appear on the top image.

Is there enough room for all this there?

Wow not too bad, I've been wondering when we'd hear something about this property.

Well hey you know, the people who made the titanic, they said that it was unsinkable and we all know what happened to that...maybe they're wrong about how well the excavating job well go for the hill of dirt there right now and end up toppling over some Pacific Springs homes.

Or maybe it's a marketing ploy.

Oh....for some reason I was thinking that the only vacant land to the south was down by the part where Burke Street curves northward by 168th street.

Another *#$%#*& Strip Mall

I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Parking lots in front of the stores to further separating the buildings from Village Point. All surface level parking with no parking garage or underground parking. Will there be a pedestrian link to the rest of Village Point? From the posted map it doesn't look like it, it barely looks like you will be able to walk from one set of stores to another within the Village Point South.

What a disappointing mess Village Point has become.

Regardless of how you'd characterize it... it is a step forward from where suburban retail was even 10 years ago. Village Pointe remains about as pleasant a suburban retail/entertainment center as Omaha has to offer (sad as that may be to some). I'm sure the evolution (back to where we started in the early 20th century :) ) will continue as years pass.

I agree it is the best Omaha has right now and it is sad. I think it annoys me more than other places because it could be so much more.

Imagine three or four floors of residential on top of all the shops. Imagine that there were shops facing out, as well, in what is now the surface parking lots. Imagine all the parking in two or three parking garages so you never had to park far from the shops. Imagine if Wild Oats, & Best Buy were built up close to the rest of Village Point with the surface lots away from Village Point. Imagine Village Point South built up to the road with residential on top and all of it's parking behind it or better yet in a garage. Imagine being able to walk to every store and restaurant in Village Point without having to risk your life crossing over parking lots and busy roads.

I just don't think parking garages are financially feasible for most developments. They are ridiculously expensive to build especially given the ample space in W. Omaha.

Village Pointe South construction on track
Omaha World Herald wrote:Construction of phase 1 of Village Pointe South, a mixed-use, 71/2-acre development at the southwest corner of 168th and Burke Streets, is on schedule despite cold and snow. Duke Matz, president of Darland Construction Co. in Omaha, said the first phase of the $6 million project, which began in November, will be completed in May. Village Pointe South has space for a restaurant, bank, retailers and office condos.

Ha this little thing is being done in phases? What's if Shadow Lake took that same approach. We'd still be waiting for our new Best Buy in 2010...

I agree why can't we do something like this instead of the same old strip malls...

Check out this mixed-use in Scottsdale, AZ. I think condos on top are pretty cool and walking around was very easy as there was little car traffic.

West Glen Town Center in West Des Moines has a similar approach. I wish suburban projects like this one would eventually show up in Omaha...WDM seems to be on the ball.

What about Aksarben Village and 80 Dodge? Aksarben Village will blow West Glen out of the water.

Aksarben Village and 80Dodge are fantastic. The Mutual of Omaha development is fantastic as well. Village Point just makes me sad because they only went half way, it could have been so much more.

I have seen a number of these "main street" or "town square" developments that have been done worse than Village Point. The bad ones are simply a strip mall reconfigured so the two halves face each other.

I wonder if this is a relocation of the 140th and Center FedEx/Kinko's or a new store. They need to open a new FedEx/Kinko's downtown.

Omaha jeweler relocating westward

Malashock's Jewelry Co., a 113-year-old locally owned business, will leave Miracle Hills Park this fall for Village Pointe South.

The store should open in its new home this fall, according to Jay Malashock, vice president and grandson of the store's co-founder. The store will remain open at 712 N. 114th St. until the move, he said.

"We looked at several locations and found (Village Pointe South) was the best fit," Malashock said.

These buildings look very complimentary to the Village Pointe construction style.
