I-80 Under Dodge Street....

I noticed for the last couple years since construction started on the new interchange and expressway that the east bound lanes under the dodge st. bridge are down to two lanes instead of three. Are they going to make it three lanes after they are done with it all? I hope so very much.

Do you mean north or south because dodge runs east and west

I am referring to the section of I-80 that runs north and south under Dodge. It is down to two lanes under the dodge street bridge. You guys know what i'm talking about. There are barricades that block one of the lanes. When will this change.

You are correct. It is I-680. I mis-spoke ealier. I should know better. And, it really is back to three lanes? Did they remove the cement barriers....? If so wouldn't that return that stretch to what it was after the widening of the interstate, but before the new dodge interchange? That is good news

Yes, its back to its original lineation (ooh, fancy word!). Hehe, 3 lanes each way.

Thanks, but i am curious...What happens when we need to widen 680 even more through this area in the future. I know work has begun on widening it from maple through forts streets, but won't we outgrow three lanes soon. I mean Dodge street has three lanes come on. WHat do you think.

I don't think we will outgrow 3 lanes soon. I-35 in SW Kansas City (think Lenexa, Overland Park, Mission) is 3 lanes, and while it gets crowded at rush hour its not prohibitive by any means. With 680 the problem is getting the volumes OFF the interstate at Dodge and Maple, which is getting taken care of right now.

Has there been any talk of a western loop to the interstate? I've been surprised that it has not even been discussed yet. 680 is quite a haul from the western parts of town. With the developments out west, if they do another loop it would almost have to be west of Elkhorn.

The only talk of the western loop is on this website, we all have our prefrences or opinions if you look back at old discussions.

We won't outgrow 6 lanes on I-680 anytime soon. Like Tuna said, the problem is not the width of the interstate itself, it's the exits. I personally know that even the exit at Pacific Street, which is quite long and multi-lane gets really backed up at rush hour. It backs up all the way onto the interstate, and that's when you get to see gridlock and stop and go traffic.
