Here is the deal... the grocery store in Arnold has 6 aisles.... food there is two to three times the price it is in North Platte which is the closest large town. We are pretty spoiled here, you can go to almost any grocery store here in town and find exotic stuff like 4 kinds of lettuce, fennell, or 5 brands of milk or even Soy milk, the people in my hometown can't find that in their local store because it is to expensive for John to carry because there are probably only a few people who are going to buy it. So in that mode are you saying that those people should just do without?
How many of you drive out to Whole Foods to do your grocery shopping? IF you do you are doing the same thing..... you are by passing your local market to go somewhere else because there are things that you want there that you can't get at home.
I think that most of the hometown people buy what they can there in town. My Mom buys all her groceries for the ranch there. She cooks for a ranch with about 6 ranchhands who eat her food daily. She has to go out of town though sometimes to get the things she needs because she can't find them in the grocery store. Does she want to drive those extra miles NO She hates it. But to do her job correctly she needs certain things that John can't get in the grocery store for her. But she and her boss have decided to try to buy as much stuff in town as they can because that is what you do. You buy where you live and work.
My ex husband and I used to work on ranches I have lived in places in Nebraska where I had to drive 50 miles to buy groceries.
THis was waaaaaaay before Walmart even thought of coming to Nebraska. Back in the 70s. Why didn't I buy in the small grocery store in town the closest little town? Because the stuff on the shelves unless it was in a can was to old to eat.
As far as the Walmart on 72nd street, how many of those people in that neighborhood drive to other areas to shop Walmart?
Lots I'll bet, because I never go over to the Walmart nearest to me after 8 am and find an convenient parking place, and it is back to the same old argument... I will drive to your neighborhood to shop but don't you dare think about putting one of those damn things in mine.
BTW The Walmart store in North Platte opened about 6 years ago. That last cafe type business in Arnold closed before that.
