Did anyone else catch the article in nonpariel online that someone hit a bull elk in council bluffs the other day?

Evidently they are becoming a little more common in western iowa, per the article, due to them inhibiting western neb and the blackhills?

There have been quite a few really nice wild bull elk spotted out in the sandhills this summer. That said, I was very surprised to see the one in CB. I questioned someone about how the CB bull would get across the river in to Iowa and he said an adult elk would have no problem swimming across the river.

As far as that KETV story... That would have been the prefect story to interview Game and Parks or someone along those lines instead of just saying what the state patrol tweeted...

thats crazy that they could swim across the Missouri. I could see getting across the Platte, but with the current on the Missouri, that would be a huge task.

I saw one there too after the Crawford parade this past weekend. I've never seen a heron there before; just ducks and geese.

I saw a blue Herron as a kid when the mall was the old lagoon.

Lots of birds on their way back. Geese on the trail are making a comeback. It was nice not being harassed every trip on the trail lol.

Turkeys are coming back out.

And those annoying little birds (dont know what they are) that swarm.

They were all hard to come by for a handful of months.

I saw a good sized dead buck deer along Abbott drive not far from Chi Health Center going to the airport very early Saturday morning. It most likely had been hit by a car overnight. I was surprised to see this so close to downtown. It wasn’t even light out yet.

Correct. Good find!

This one being a Great Blue Heron, not to be confused with a Little Blue Heron. The Greats are here year-yound but also migrate through and aren’t as common in urban areas. Little Blues mostly migrate through and are much less common to see in Nebraska, though there is a recorded sighting at Heron Haven in 2018. They’re always fun to watch, especially when they snag a fish.

There are apparently several in my neighborhood by Westside. Several neighbors see them, but I'm never that lucky.
