Fast Food Restaurants Remodeling Everywhere.

I guess I have been fortunate. Most of the food we've been getting for takeout has been right at the level we got when we dined in. It will be interesting going forward on the future of restaurants. I think the younger generation (my kids are teenagers) is less inclined to eat out. Given the choice my kids have always preferred takeout. Now that they know we can get it from pretty much anywhere they will push that more. I like to eat out more just because the focus is on the people you are with, not tv and other distractions at home.

Some things are going to be better on site. Soups, salad and appetizers.. mozza sticks are not good warm, and don't microwave well. At least with take out your tip is far less.

I suppose if you're subjected to takeout often enough you begin to think that's what food is suppose to look and taste like. I have a sister that will swear up and down that canned vegetables are better than fresh vegetables. She's just so used to the canned variety that the fresh ones taste funny to her. Given enough repetition you can normalize most anything.

To be fair, canned green beans do taste better than fresh ones.

Everyone’s palate is different. I think Greg is on to something in that “takeout vs dining in” is becoming more and more a generational thing. Under normal circumstances and given the choice, I’d much rather dine in than carry out..

Regarding green beans, I like them. But I’ll take fresh over canned any day of the week...

Yeah, fresh green beans are the best. But , I prefer canned over frozen . Peas, I prefer frozen.

Same here, and my favorite takeout that I get 1+ times a week (Shahi Indian Grill) is exactly as good as it is dine-in, and is always still piping hot when I get it home. The only bad luck I've had with a restaurant that I know has good food in dine-in but the takeout was bad is Craft Sliders + Beer which the sliders were unfortunately so soggy they had turned to slop.

Some things you've got to keep the lid open for the trip home. Keeps things from getting soggy or over cooked.

I still haven't eaten anything from a restaurant since March 14th. Seems like a totally different life from before. I'm starting to get cravings though. I think Abelardo's is calling me back the most, but I'm still not really in any hurry

According to Google Maps, 2 Arby's here in Lincoln have reopened to dine-in. 56th and O and 27th and I-80. And the Arby's between Burger King and Long John Silver's on 108th between O Street and Mockingbird Drive has also reopened to dine-in.

EDIT: Apparently, I was wrong. The Long John Silver's on 108th is NOT open to dine-in. I looked on Google Maps the other day and it said it was. I guess they changed it.

Does anyone remember when Wendy's had a location on 108th Street between L and Q? I do. It closed in 2006. For years now, I've had a thought: What if instead of completely closing that location and moving to a new one on L Street in front of the Wal-Mart or Super Target or wherever, they still tore up the old Wendy's and rebuilt a completely new store on 108th in the same location? I don't see why they couldn't have done that.

Traffic volume? That Sonic didn't last long, and I also recall a Winchell's in that area too. Runza took over the old Taco Bell building. The Hot n' Now by the BK is long gone. I can't recall when Golden Corral closed.

I was thinking 15-20 years ago. Looks like the last time the building sold is 2001 and the last time it was remodeled was 2010.

That hasn't been a problem for McDonald's, Burger King, Arby's and Long John Silver's who've all been there since the 70's and 80's and are still there today.

The Burger King on 108th and Mockingbird Drive in front of KMTV was torn up and rebuilt in the late 90's. I don't see why Wendy's couldn't have done the same with their location a couple blocks north.

This is not worthy of its own thread and now this building is ready for a remodel.

Last weekend, when I drove by the Applebee's on 180th and Center all the signs are down off the building, Pretty noticeable and I get by there fairly often so I think it is recent.

Off the top of my head, I'd guess that they didn't like half their business needing to make an unprotected left turn from a traffic lane to get onto the lot. Back then, that was a bear. Now, not so much.

Also, Wendy's has gone through a lot of ups/downs corporate-wise since they came to Omaha.

AND, there's one going in to the Love's at I-80 & NE-50.

I'd forgotten about the Golden Trough--and I'd eaten there!

After it became the oriental joint, they had a horrendous vermin/pest infestation and that was it for that building as a restaurant...

I remember back in the early 90s when Taco Bell was getting rid of all their "mission stores" (the old school ones built to resemble a Spanish mission - Buddha Belly in Millard and Popeye's in La Vista are both in old TB "mission stores"). They almost always bought a new lot and built a new store before closing and bulldozing the old one. Apparently, they didn't want to lose the revenue of closing a location during the months it took to bulldoze it and rebuilt it.

Makes sense. It is also possible that the signage didn't come down right away thus I didn't notice

North 30th at Ernest closed 2-3 weeks ago too. Probably not a remodel, signs are gone, windows boarded up.

Someone called in and asked about this on Grow Omaha this morning. I did a quick search for a building permit from the studio but didn't see anything.

I know time goes fast, but it seems like they did one not that long ago. But then Godfathers at the same intersection has too. Closed for a kitchen remodel. Opened up. Closed again for dining room remodel. That never made sense.

As an honored patron of the aforementioned fine dining establishment - that Taco Bell needs some serious exterior work. It looks like the drive-thru either had terrible water proofing or lost a fight with a late-night customer's vehicle at some point. Could definitely use a refresh.

I was a manager at that store after its fire rebuild back in 97. Long vehicles always had a tough time getting around the drive through. Building should have been a little more west and south. A few feet...

I was surprised how many Subways there are in small towns. It is frequently the only chain restaurant those small towns have and frequently the only dining alternative to the local bar/grill. That alone may keep them alive. They're a relatively cheap franchise to buy into and get going.

I just looked on Google Maps again. And according to them, 5 McDonald's in Omaha have finally reopened to dine-in after a year. And 1 in Lincoln also has. It's the one on North 48th between R and Vine.

I think you are spending too much time on Google and not living in the real world. Not sure what Google says, but my eyes tell me many of these places have all been open for a while.

I think you are spending too much time on Google and not living in the real world. Not sure what Google says, but my eyes tell me many of these places have all been open for a while.

I'll also call and confirm business hours for certain days. Like Thanksgiving hours. I'm not going to trust what Google says.

The Runza on 78th and L Street was torn down and what I am assuming to be the foundation for a new Runza is in place.

The Runza in Blair is building a new location immediately west of the current location. Last time I went by (2 weeks ago) they were working on the foundation.
