With the Westroads staying open until 10 I would think VP would do the same.

Best Buy closes at 10 pm over the holidays. We'll see if Apple does the same.

Every time I go there the place is packed. I wonder how long before they open a second store?

Well considering that everytime I've been at the VP Apple store it has been way busier than the San Francisco Apple stores, it would appear that Omaha is an underserved market.
I predict another Apple store within the next 5 years, assuming Apple's business outlook stays strong.
Maybe they'll put one in North Downtown.

Yes, a LONG time.
How many trips does one have to make to an Apple store? Let's see 1) computer 2) iPod, okay, we're done.
I was in there killing time before a movie and the place was dead, and that was a Saturday evening. I'm guessing now that weather reality has set in, VP merchants will see a drop off in foot traffic.

ONE Ipod, guess I missed that memo. What should I do with my other two??? :music:
By the way, they opened at 8 on the 24th. An hour before schedualed. I was out there and went in to buy an 80gb video Ipod as they opened[/left]

I go to the Apple store everytime I'm in west Omaha, which is about once or twice a month.
I've never been in there on a saturday evening, but neither did I go to the SF stores on saturday evenings. The time of day that I went to the VP and SF stores were roughly the same.

Comical because when I go in there to do business all my friends do check their myspaces etc. I do play as well but only with the most loaded Mac Pro just to see its power. Very titillating

Saturday, while I was walking up and down the Village Pointe “Main street”, enjoying the Christmas decorations of oversize Christmas Lights and huge bulbs, I saw the “Winter Wonderland” display in the Apple store window.

But the iPod snowman is a cute touch.
But the big excitement for the Apple Store is next month.

Apple announced a mobile phone Tuesday that fulfills several types of rumors: it's a widescreen, touchscreen iPod and a smartphone that runs the company's OS X operating system and offers a whole new way to manage voicemail.
The company also announced a new way to move digital content around the home.

Apple unveils long-awaited phone, TV set-top box
http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_pg=46&u_sid=2310564

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Apple Computer CEO Steve Jobs on Tuesday made the company's long-awaited jump into the mobile phone business and renamed the company to just "Apple Inc.," reflecting its increasing focus on consumer electronics.
The iPhone, which starts at $499, is controlled by touch, plays music, surfs the Internet and runs the Macintosh computer operating system. Jobs said it will "reinvent" the telecommunications sector and "leapfrog" past the current generation of hard-to-use smart phones.

I do. I've never had a problem with it, honestly. And I love my new Blackjack. However, I won't be buying an iPone. Personally, I want my music and phone separate. I was really hoping for a widescreen video iPod with much more capacity... and that's it. I'm disappointed.

Actually you should see your widescreen iPod later this year. It's almost guaranteed Apple will take the iPhone strip it down to the touchscreen and slam a 120 or so Gig HD in it.. essentially. I think from my experience with poeple I know most use Sprint then Verizon and then Cingular. But since it is Apple most people who are getting the phone dont care if it is GSM. And for around Omaha it is a well known fact that we have poorer GSM coverage then CDMA but that certainly wont hurt sales.
The only thing I dont like about the phone is it only has 4 and 8 gig storage. That is quite pathetic, especialy since it runs OS X and you can slap app after app on it. Wont leave much for your media. Heck I have 18 gigs of just music in my iTunes, about 4 gigs of podcasta and that does not include the video etc.
And personally the thing that I don't get the most is the styling. It is actually quite a departure from Apple. It does not quite look like anything else they have out now. Yes it is sleek and simple but it lost all the iPod jeans. Ok the back has a huge apple on it but the two tone and on the flip side black and silver. Looks more Nokia ish. My figers are crossed they give it a restyle by june. I was expecting an over sized nano with an oversized screen.
And then there is the trademark. Ohhh boy this is going to get good. That was very smug for Apple to just go ahead and decide to use iPhone. Maybe it was do to the nice little relationship they had going with Sysco or maybe Apple Inc. thought the iPhone by any other name is not an iPhone.
As far as the technology, it is very hi tech no doubt about that Yet you got to think by June the other guys should have their own handsets packed with the same stuff. Good thing for Apple that people will buy their stuff even if its not the most cutting edge. Example the iPod it still kicks butt while dozens of other mp3 players blow it out of the water.
To me the "killer app" is it running OS X well know they are saying a very stripped down version. It blows everything prior out of the water. Even if you have to whipe it on your shirt through out the day. The pinching thing, I mean come on that is freekn awesome.
and for those who have not seen the iPhone much yet WATCH THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't forget about (apple)tv!
Although it's not no super hardware but it can bring all your iTunes onto your TV.

My personal gripes is that it can only push up to 720. I know that is not that bad but dam isn't the new thing 1080. Ok so yeah it has to stream video over a wireless network they should have allowed it to show 1080. Then if for some reason the network is having interference or the media it self is lower then let it just display it lower. Optimize it back down to what would work best. Oh and no TV tuner? granted they want you to go buy everything from iTunes but i dont want to have to switch back and forth.
Thank goodness this thing looks Apple. Not like the dang iPhone.
Although it's not no super hardware but it can bring all your iTunes onto your TV.

My personal gripes is that it can only push up to 720. I know that is not that bad but dam isn't the new thing 1080. Not brought up at the keynote dont forget the last new product introduced this week
The new hi dollar AirPort Extreme.

Again nothing super but it certainly a super backbone. For any network.

The sleek, easy-to-use AirPort Extreme Base Station is the perfect wireless access point for home, school, or small business. Blazing fast, it delivers up to five times the performance and up to twice the range compared to 802.11g routers.1 And you can use it with both Macs and PCs.

FINALLY someone else mentions the new AirPort! In my opinion this was one of the most exciting things to come out of the show and it wasn't even mentioned at the keynote.
That a major computing company is trying to bring wireless N more to the forefront is a really big deal. I know I'll be missing my UFO shaped AirPort but it looks like it's finally time to upgrade! I'm not that put off by the cost $179.00 considering I wont have to buy anything else for quite some time

Speaking of the aiport... Apple next month will actually charge us intel Mac users a fee of 4.99 to unlock the N in our systems. Not sure what the technicality was that has them doing it but I'll pay the 5 bones to have it, not that big of deal for me.
And then that new aiport has iDisk. Which means there is a USB port in the base-station that allows you to plug in drives and share them to all computers on the network. No I think thats some cool shiznit right there!

If you have a Core 2 Duo Macintosh, the built-in WLAN card is capable of networking using (draft 2) 802.11n. This capability can be unlocked via an update Apple distributes with the new AirPort Extreme Base Station. Or, they will sell it to you for $4.99. Why don't they give it away for free, say with Software Update? Because of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (which was passed in the wake of the Enron scandal). iLounge quotes an Apple representative: "It's about accounting. Because of the Act, the company believes that if it sells a product, then later adds a feature to that product, it can be held liable for improper accounting if it recognizes revenue from the product at the time of sale, given that it hasn't finished delivering the product at that point."

I don't know if I buy that. Didn't the firmware update 1.2 for their iPods give them brightness controls and gapless playback? I would call those new features. Their rival, Microsoft, recently released an update for the XBox 360 giving it 1080p output. I'd call that a new feature. Basically, if you want the feature, $4.99 isn't going to stop you. But if a million people want, it's a $5 million bonus to Apple.
