Coaches get fired at the end of seasons for losses AT HOME like this..

Utterly pathetic...

Ciao..LiO...Peace
I can forget and move on from things usually pretty easily, but this loss just blew my mind. This was just bad, very bad. This is on McDermott.
I absolutely agree with you.. This loss is un-defendable. No excuse for a BS loss, at home, like this...

I play ball all the time and am constantly watching it and that was probably the worst coaching job I have ever seen. No excuses. And the worst part is Coach Merf in the postgame stated that the Jays executed the game plan and played great D. How is it possible to say that when you give up 106 pts?

The coaches and players really need to evaluate where they are. I understand that this is a young team, but the mistakes at the end of the game were just unbelievable. If they can't muster out a win vs Nova on Sunday, they are going to start to lose some faith with the fan base.

Several tings...

One, it sure seems like he wasn't able to get the ball off in 0.8 seconds...

Here is Steven Branscombe from USA TODAY Sports photo: and the same photo someone else cropped in. But here is my photo from the play before. All CU needed to do was touch the frickin ball! But instead, I cought the ball... Yes, thats me with the camera catching the inbounds pass!

Those photos show how ridiculous the call was. It reminds me of the Creighton/Iowa State game in Des Moines in 2010. The only difference is that game had no replay. Either one, breaks your heart.

But still, the call didn't even matter of CU would had just touched the ball anywhere on the court on the play before. Just letting it go out of bounds was the worst possible option...

Yes, there is no way that the Creighton coaches or any of the players shouldn't know that all they had to do was touch the ball or even throw it at a player on the other team. Definitely not blaming this game on the refs, but they were terrible last night. Numerous times Mintz was knocked to the floor on moving screens, but nothing was called. Creighton has to have one of the worst home court advantages when it comes to refs. (think back to last year's Xavier game where the Jays didn't even touch them, yet the refs called a foul with .1 seconds left that gave Xavier the win.) At some point, it would be nice if it all evened out.

Hopefully Creighton comes out fired up on Sunday and puts Nova away. It is an early 11 AM start so that might be hard.

Awful coaching. Jays could have inbounded to Marquette inside the 3 line and won the game. Instead, they ran the one play that gave them a chance to lose and nobody seemed to know that someone needed to touch the ball.

Still, I think the bigger story continues to be defense. Even if Creighton won, they still showed no sign of life defensively. Their brand of ball is fun to watch and wins some games. But by February, their legs are gone and their shots start coming up short. They won't be a good tournament team until they can get stops.

Two 13 pt runs by Nova in the second half, poor 3 pt shooting, bad pick and roll passes, and turn overs.

You have to remember that Nova is leading the Big East and is the only undefeated team in Big East play. They aren't as good as in past years, but good to see the Jays play so well in the first half.

What drives me nuts, is how other teams always seem to make adjustments and pull out a win, Creighton just keeps chucking up 3's no matter what.

I know this iteration of the Jays is a young team still finding their way.. But I believe the pieces they’re still missing are physical toughness and mental toughness.. you can recruit the former, but have to develop the ladder..

The Jays style leans toward a more finesse game. But they need to be more physical and mentally tough to compete, with top tier success, in the Big East. My hope is that within the next season or 2, coach Mac can make significant strides upgrading both...

Jays look like they're running out of gas already. They had lots of short 3 attempts tonight. Mac might be in a tough spot this season. But I still think it would be better to transition away from 'Let it fly'.
Creighton can still be a 3 point shooting team; just do it with defense and inside out ball rotation. Save the team's legs over the course of the season. And defense is something you can control when shots aren't falling.

Jays get a much needed win on the road @ Georgetown 91-87. FT's won the game for the Jays. A great team win, where everyone that played contributed.

Big road win for the Jays tonight against Head Coach Patrick Ewing and Georgetown..

I don’t believe the Jays will sniff the NCAA big dance this year. But, if they can get their act together and have at least close to a .500 record in Big East conference play, I think they’ll get an NIT bid and a possible tournament opening home game...

Agreed, I think the NCAAs are out (unless they go on an absolute tear and finish incredibly), but I would love to see this young team go to the NIT to get more practices. It was good to see McDermott test out some different lineups this game, in addition, hopefully this win gets their heads on straight so they can finish strong.

It was nice to see Mac switch it up and go with the 2-3 zone and playing 2 bigs at the same time. It was nice to see Creighton not adjusting to the other team, but causing the other team to adjust to them.

I still really like the core of guys on this team. Davion Mintz played his best game of the year last night. He was aggressive in attacking the hoop and really brought a lot to the team. There was one possession that he took it to the hole 1 on 3 and finished. He then stole the inbounds pass and got up a layup attempt that unfortunately didn't go in, but set the tone for the defensive effort of the team.

Some of your may already know this but I thought I would share my post that I made on the Creighton basketball forum:

I thought I would share my thoughts on why I love this program, AD and Coach no matter if the Jays win or lose the game:

Last week, I was digging through junk email and discovered an email sent to me from Bruce Rasmussen. It stated that he had recently learned about my son's health situation (my son was diagnosed with germ cell cancer back on his 2nd birthday in May. He has just completed 4 rounds of chemo and as of 2 weeks ago is in remission). I am still not sure how Bruce found out. He went on to state that he talked to Coach McDermott and would like to offer us 2 opportunities.

1) Attend a practice and get to meet all the players

2) Get to sit behind the team for a game and then go into the locker room after the game.

It was a tough choice but we decided to sit behind the bench for tonight's game (especially since it is the Pink Out game)

Whats even more is that Bruce remembered last year when they allowed my daughter to meet Billy Bluejay in his changing room for a birthday present.

I, like many of you, want the basketball team to succeed and win every game, but moments like these really demonstrate what the program is all about and I am VERY PROUD to call myself a BLUEJAY fan!!!

Thank you guys for the prayers and support. It was an awesome experience to get to see the action that close. We also got to meet Coach Mac before and after the game.

That was the best defensive game the Jays have played all year. It was awesome to hear all of the player's reactions to each and every play.

We also had our picture taken by the our one and only Brad Williams:

Those are great. I already bought mine from Lawlors!

Lavin is such a great dude. I had a great conversation with him when he was in town for Dollar Beer night last winter -- in person he's exactly like the same as he is on TV. Gregarious, outgoing, extremely chatty. I intended to just say Hi and tell him welcome to Omaha because we've talked over email and social media occasionally for White & Blue Review, and we wound up chatting for like 10 minutes. My wife and I were laughing about it recently because the photo of us popped up on my Facebook memories last week

What is it Lavin says about the CHI Health Center? "More entertainment than the Roman Colosseum" -- that's a t-shirt idea for Lawlors

Not bad taking the #14 team to OT being down two starters and having some others banged up. Too bad they ran out of gas at the end.

Now just hope they don't |expletive| the bed the next two games after going all out tonight.

What a game by the Jays. I absolutely love that Mac changed styles and almost stole a game. Mintz played all 45 min and Ballock 44. Jays had their chances, as Kaleb Joseph missed 2 of 3 FTs near the end of regulation and also the potential game winner at the end before OT.

Either way, great D to play that well @ Nova.
