Speaking of SSP, a poster there said that the Mutual of Omaha plot is 60’ lower in elevation than First National ? I was wondering if would appear as the tallest ?

It’s on a bit lower parcel than where the FNC is. The height will be 43 feet taller than First National.. I think the Mutual tower presence will definitely project more of a dominant height perspective..But I think from an appearance standpoint, it’s yet to be seen if it will appear much taller than FNC. Perhaps just a smidge either way..

That seems like an awful lot of elevation change for two blocks. It doesn't feel like a significant change in elevation when you walk it.

You would be correct. Basically no change.
15th street on the west side of mutual is elevation 1040
16th street on the east side of FNBO ranges from elevation 1038 to 1043

I’ve never been engaged in a forum that focuses on development, let alone construction of a skyscraper. How exciting to see a major construction project from start to finish via webcam (and of course I’ll have to make the obligatory visit downtown to see in person). I’m beyond stoked to see it through to completion along with everyone else. Cheers!

I echo this. And it’s great and exciting to discuss this skyscraper construction journey..

I stated this about a month ago, but since this forum started in late 2003, the Mutual Tower will be the first significant skyscraper addition we’ve had since the FNB tower completed in 2002 and Union Pacific completed in early 2004..so it’s great we can engage in discussion of this HQ’s skyscraper here..as it’s the time we are able to discuss on this discussion platform…

An interesting camera view would be the east nesting box camera of the WoodmenLife Tower falcons. Should show a good perspective of the building going vertical for a bit. The camera sites are acting up a bit right now, but hopefully they will get sorted out.

I agree! I've always loved FNB. It's got a very solid presence in the skyline. Once completed, I believe Mutual of Omaha Tower will compliment First National Tower and WoodmenLife Tower very nicely.

My only “complaint” about FNB is they turn off the lights on just the crown from midnight until they’re back on 5am, yet Woodmen stays lit throughout the night. Last I heard, the crown lights are not LED, so that may be a factor.

I get that they do it year round, though I wonder what their PR department would have to say about it. Chicago and many other big cities take part in a "lights out" program for migration. U.P. and O.P.P.D. voluntarily take part though there's no official city of Omaha program. Getting back-ish on topic I hope Mutual of Omaha Tower takes part given that it will be mostly glass.

I drove by on Friday and they have the metal cages for the footings (forgive my non technical lingo) and they are massive. They were laying on their side and had to be 4 feet across and they were pretty long

Omaha's going to have sort of a Tulsa look to it's skyline once MofO tower is completed. Except I think our two tallest will be better than theirs. Tulsa's skyline has to many international style high rises I think. They had an impressive building boom in the 60's and 70's but not much since.

Yep. While not as bad as OKC, it's pretty desolate in downtown Tulsa. Some highrises, and then blocks of parking lots.

True..

Tulsa has seen very little, if any, significant high rise activity since the 1970’s/80’s.. Whereas Omaha has a decided advantage in that area..Plus, with Omaha being the much older city, it is more densely built up than its Oklahoma peer..

Tulsa does have some absolutely wonderful art deco buildings; and because of its history as an oil “boom town” has an impressive skyline for its size.. Omaha has caught up however …

Right, Tulsa has some fantastic looking Art Deco buildings. I've never been to the city, would like to visit it someday and see how it compares to Omaha since they are both peers. It's really similar to Omaha population wise.
