Just got back to Omaha from Atlanta and driving toward downtown from the airport made things feel even more impressive/vibrant seeing the tower crane as it’s obvious something substantial is being built in the downtown core. Then I got on 480 and saw another tower crane near midtown. Seeing things like this really helps show how Omaha is on the rise (literally in these 2 cases anyway)…best kind of marketing for the area IMO.
I feel like Abbot drive may offer the best view (or one of them anyway) of downtown after the new tower is built with Charles Schwab field in the foreground and decently dense looking downtown area with multiple mid/high rises. Pretty impressive looking if you ask me.

Agree, I was downtown late this afternoon, drove by the mutual site and it seemed like I was in another city, Minneapolis came to mind. Two tower cranes in close proximity to one another. Definitely a rush. Not used to seeing this type of major skyscraper activity in Omaha. It's been 19 years since we've had a building built over 300 ft (UP building).
Here's another angle - from Seemann Stadium. It looks like the Mutual Tower will be somewhat behind the FNBO building, but not entirely, plus being taller, will make for an interesting picture especially in closeups.

I've still never been in that stadium. So where it the woodman, out of frame just to the right?
that angle more than ever shows how a building of significant height filling the gap at the old civic site could look. i know, i know, not gonna happen.

Only if it was on the west side of the Civic Auditorium lot. If you draw a straight line on a map from the center of the Civic Lot to where this photo was taken at 13th and Pacific, it clips the sw corner of the first national tower.
Also considering the old first national is 22 floors and you barely see it, it would need to be quite tall...

Any idea why the blue is so much shorter?
It’s so the horizontal boom sections on each crane don’t collide with each other. There has to be a certain amount of clearance between each crane for safety (OSHA) reasons.

Love this view as well. It should look nice going from left to right as the towers will get taller.
Sounds like we need to keep it going and Hines should put a 1000-footer in.
This view of downtown is one of my favorites. Hines doesn't need to build a supertall; they could do one or two 2-300 footers and it would really add to this view of downtown.

I agree I love that view because it captures some of the older mid-rises that we have and really complements each other (old and new) well.
I agree. This angle also shows the best example (in my opinion) of density in DTO.

that's the second mention of Hines. Did i miss something?

Nah. We haven't seen any updates on what they plan for future phases at Mercantile, except for the T3 office building. There is a chance we could get a residential high rise, likely apartments, at the Mercantile, which would really impact the skyline from this angle.
Nope - was just making a joke based on how each building was growing in height the further east you went. Just threw out Hines as a random location as it’s east of the new Mutual lot.

That view is good, as long as you crop that parking lot underneath out
Less parking lot and more buildings, even a parking garage looks better
I wonder how many U.S. cities have skyscrapers over 600 ft being constructed right now ? Omaha could be in pretty elite company. I'm sure New York City has a bunch and Chicago's probably got several, and let's not forget about Austin, Detroit's got one as well the first for them in a long time.

New York City and Miami are absolutely dominating in building now, but there are many cities with big projects going on. I hope Omaha can capture some momentum this decade, and announce some more projects.

Jersey City is technically not NYC so I'll add it to the list, also Fort Lauderdale and I think Philly are a few more

Which ones in Fort Lauderdale are under construction and over 600 ft? Philly has a proposal for a supertall, but I thought it was just a proposal right now (3101 Market St.).

I'm not sure if the Philly and Ft Lauderdale buildings have started construction yet. New York City and Miami easily have the most 600+ footers currently under construction at least 6 in each, Chicago has just one, Austin looks to have at least 2 or 3 and possibly more. Austin's skyline could be the tallest in Texas if things continue for them. Ft Lauderdale also has numerous proposals for some 500 ft range buildings. Ft Lauderdale looks to be undergoing a major highrise boom. I think people forget about Ft Lauderdale since Florida has so many cities and it's so close to Miami, I know I do.

looks like they are removing a significant amount of dirt for what i assume are city services (sewer, water, etc)
Maybe they are doing a basement after all. We’ll have to wait and see.
He said "They are some big, ugly red brick buildings" ...and then they were gone.

I was told they’ll be pouring concrete soon, then begin to go vertical…
I was talking with a family member that works for one of the steel suppliers for the project and he said that the garage portion will not be clad in glass as originally planned. They will be doing some form of steel/metal shell, so it won't look quite the same as the original rendering. He did say, though, that the garage will still be 16 stories, and that the building will rise on top. He said there have been some minor delays due to supply issues but shouldn't be anything very noticeable from an over all time line point of view

16? I thought it was supposed to be 12?
It’ll be 15-
“At 677 feet, the building will feature 44 floors and approximately 800,000 square feet of office, meeting, collaboration and amenity space. It will include parking for 2,200 vehicles in a garage used by Mutual associates during business hours and the community during evening and weekend hours.
Highlighting the structure will be an inviting street-level lobby featuring a conference space as well as an “experience center” spotlighting Mutual’s history, brand and impact on customers and the community.
The building will also feature a “sky lobby” that will welcome associates from the parking facility. A multi-level concept on the 16-20th floors, it will feature food services with diverse culinary offerings, a fitness center, employee wellness services, concierge technical support services as well as flexible conference and meeting spaces. Highlighting the sky lobby floors are landscaped outdoor terraces on the 16th, 17th and 18th floors that will provide sweeping views and outdoor dining, meeting and fitness spaces for Mutual associates.”..
