Hah, yeah, since broke college kids have plenty of cash to blow on $6 slices of cheesecake
Don't get me wrong, I go grab a $6 slice of banana cream cheesecake every now and again, but cripes, even now I'm doing fairly well financially and I still think that's way too much money.

Most of us aren't as dirt poor as we make ourselves out to be. Some of us are, but college students blow their money stupidly half the time anyway. Besides, us guys would pay $6 a slice on a date (if she was good lookin enoughAsten wrote:Hah, yeah, since broke college kids have plenty of cash to blow on $6 slices of cheesecakeavanzee wrote:Ya, they could really capitalize on all the students.![]()

Oooo yeah I forgot that Lincoln had all those what 468,923 college kids… so they should be getting a mills mall, six flag, nascar track, international airport, pro sports team(s), couple sky scapers, subway very son. After all they got all them college kids.

lol, why do you have such a grudge against Lincoln? This is a perfect example of why a joint metro between Lincoln and Omaha will never work unless people change their attitudes.pkiphd wrote:the heck with lincoln

no, see, what needs to happen is that one person from Lincoln needs to marry one person from Omaha and then at the wedding we will all put our grudges behind us.
Just curious, how many colleges are in Lincoln.
UNL, Neb Weslyn, and Soutwest Com College were all I could think of. Are there more?

Yes I have..In the West End district in Dallas..I had a good time there..I'd stop at calling it 'uber-cool'.. But I certanly would not object to Omaha getting one..pkiphd wrote:Well can anyone at least agree with me on the Coyote Ugly? Have any of you ever been to one??

That's what we really need to fill in our North Downtown area. We need a bunch of touristy bar/restaurants to draw people down there. I'm being serious too. North Downtown would be a serious destination if we could fill it in with ESPNZone, Coyote Ugly, Cheescake Factory, Hard Rock, etc... That would be a major turning point for DTO.

Yes, but "one metro" doesn't mean we want Lincoln to get things before Omaha

Relax, Lincoln isn't getting a CF before Omaha.
And that is a good concept for North Downtown. Let the Old Market retain it's original local restaurant and retailer appeal/charm, while North Downtown can have the 'me to' (and yes, a little 'plastic') stuff that every other large urban district seems to have. North Downtown will be our KC Live.

Well, while we all wait for the arrival of gods gift to FREAKIN CHEESECAKE, I'd suggest you try Delice, or maybe one of Omaha's other independent restaurants. There are quite a few local establishments that serve tasty after dinner treats.
Don't get me wrong. I can't wait to overpay for a meat loaf sandwich that is the size of La Vista, but in the meantime I'm up for a snack after the Symphony at the French Cafe.
By the way, there was a pretty big ad in the OWH on sunday for employees for the new California Pizza Kitchen. Of course, I'll still enjoy La Casa, Sortinos, Big Freds, and my personal favorite, my old neighbor Danny Sherman's Zio's. I don't know about CPK, but Zio's has been around for decades and still hand stretches the crust, doesn't use a speed oven, and the quality is just as fantastic as the day he opened.
Of course, that's just my opinion.

Its obvious that many have never been to a Cheesecake Factory when they assume the appeal is their cheesecake. I personally think they do a great job with the design of their restaurants, their cheesecake is very good, but their menu of about 15 pages and great tasting food is what gets me there whenever I'm in a city that has one. Their menu ranges from pad thai noodles to meatloaf to fish tacos to cajun jumbalya (tough to spell) to a great Sunday brunch. No matter what you are hungry for, they probably have it. And no, there is no locally owned restaurant with that kind of variety in their food.

If the executives at Cheesecake Factory knew how much passion and anticipation has been expended on this website....they would probably open one tomorrow in a portable building!! Maybe one week it could sit at Westroads, the next at Southpointe.
It will be a nice addition to the Omaha/Lincoln restaurant scene and I guess it must carry some 'prestige' to get so much interest here. (It was never on my radar screen until I started reading this forum)
Along the lines of other's comments here, I personally steer clear of 'chain restaurants' WHENEVER POSSIBLE and opt for the more independent or local places.
Because of this I have only been to a Cheesecake Factory once. I'm not going to knock it, the food is good, and the atmosphere is 'somewhat' upscale.
But, its not too many steps above 'Grandmother's, Perkins or Village Inn!
(Maybe closer to the caliber that used to be met by Rusty Scupper or Stuart Anderson's) It seems to me more the kind of place you would go after church, for Mother-in-law's birthday, or Co-worker happy hour....its not a college hangout and its really not the place I would go for a romantic dinner date. There are (at least) a handfull of Omaha restaurants I would/will go to before running to CF. (Considering moving back, I was MUCH more excited to hear Omaha landed a Whole Foods!) Have any of you CF fans been here? http://www.grillhouserestaurant.com/default.htm
Having said that I've caught the "Omaha MUST have one" virus and can't wait to hear an official opening date. At this point I would really be ecstatic over the irony if one opened in Lincoln first! -(Since that counts for Omaha in my book)
Now-....Re: Previous Lincoln related comments, I'm throwing in some 2 cents. Omahans generally perceive Lincoln as being a college town and little else. That's probably because they tend to go for football games -and little else. I think the vast majority would be surprised that there is more 'cosmopolitan' culture (and money) lurking under the surface than is readily visible from Memorial Stadium. (If you haven't been to the lounge "Barrymore's" or "Venue" - go, and you'll see what I mean)
And let's not forget...Lincoln IS Far-southwest Omaha

yes, but Omaha's college students are greatly dispersed and therefore, less visible. Regretably, there isn't really much of a college corridor in Omaha. I wish there was.

Yes...UNO (or whatever name it might be known by in the future) NEEDS a "Village".
But since it won't be done in time to get The Cheesecake Factory, we're diverging from the real 'Rumor'........
Nobody's deepthroat at Westroads has any thing new to add?
.....Even if its about the 'Food Court'?

The Cryptic Rumor Dept has received feedback that while still confident of a Cheesecake Factory opening in Omaha in 2006, the potential location at Westroads (either inside the mall or freestanding store in the mall area) has hit a snag..And that Cheesecake Factory officials are now looking at other locations in the Omaha area to build..
I know I've stated this 1000 times before..But be patient..CF is very selective of the location for which they place a restaurant..Every indication is they ARE coming to Omaha..The question now is where (of course, it seems, that's always been a question)

You know, I ran that by my source this afternoon as we chatted about this CF situation and he laughed..Seriously..No offense to Lincoln intended..Just the likelyhood appears slim to none..Calibraskan wrote:SouthPointe
But a different location within the Omaha area (as opposed to the rumored Westroads) is looking like it may be a reality for a CF..

Yeah watch, they'll build next to Cabela's.
(or worse yet, in the Plaza at MAC)
Of course I don't see either of those happening. More likely, RED is making a push. I suppose there's an outside shot for One Pacific Place or Regency Court.

Yeah there really is no way Lincoln is going to get a CF, even though it would be wildly popular and get just as much business as an Omaha location.

Since CF is so calculated in their locals I’m very interested into where they are going to build. I hope downtown and thus help turn it into an even bigger destination but who know, it may even be VP.
