Busguy2010: I can always count on you "getting it" and myself "getting you." I think we are alike -- when it comes to weather.
NativeOmaha: That's UNBELIEVABLE, the whole ordeal. What a "wacky day" that seems something out of "The Twilight Zone." The canceling of the big concert, and the upheavel & all the disappointments caused, by a 30% chance of rain?
OmahaCowboy: Yes, property ownership definitely is a factor in dreading severe weather. However, even if you own a car, and dont have a garage, you can still be excited by severe weather (including possible hail) on its way. I think being excited a bit about severe weather is simply about if you have a "storm chaser" drive or personality, or a "thrillseeker" personality. Plenty of people don't. I, on the other hand, have driven to meet an F2 hurricane making landfall -- while others were fleeing the coast. It wasnt very smart. It became very frightening. I cant imagine an F5, like Andrew. Since I came out OK, I don't regret doing it. But, I dont plan on ever doing that again.
(Likewise, Ive talked to a couple that had an F5 tornado sweep away their house around them, and they saw furniture, cars, and their neighbors fly over them right as their house was ripped apart. They had mud, grass, and glass all over them. Their neighbors didnt make it. They said they'll never get over it. It can very horrific. )
Astronauts that go on a mission to the moon, men & women who climb Mt Everest, men & women who surf 60 foot waves, and people that descend to the deepest parts of the ocean (like James Cameron) are "adventurous cowboys" in their own right, seeking & pushing & wanting nature's extremes. This is similar, I think. (In fact, Im into space missions, watching big wave surfing, and Cameron's deep sea adventures.).
And, as BusGuy10 pointed out: It will happen whether we like it or not. Back when Native Americans roamed the plains, and before Omaha was ever seen as a city on a map, tornadoes touched down, and severe storms came and went.
I totally believe you, OmahaCowboy, but I cant help but notice you are here a lot. What does that mean? A watchman for Omaha? Or, a secret "storm chaser" within, that's in denial?

(Kidding)
I can get pushed out because I'm "too much" for some. Then, an observer of me comes suddenly swooping in to "fill my shoes." People are always more accepting of the new one, because their feathers aren't truly ruffled by them. (Yawn) I can count on it every time.
