I didn't get to watch the game sadly, so I am glad to get your thoughts there Cowboy. Bummer overall, but, these are games they hopefully learn from. BYU is going to be another large test, hopefully they pass that one.
You’re welcome..
Fortunately I didn’t get the sense “the sky was falling” with this loss.. The Jays played with and held their own against a top 20 ranked team.. Thank goodness for Ryan Hawkins..He, by far, was the leading scorer tonight and the only one who made shots with any consistency (I’d put Rati in there as well. He provided some added spark)..
I believe the Jays will learn and grow from this one. They’re well coached and have a bunch of young talent..

That was a terrible game for AOC. None of the Jays outside of Hawkins did anything, but AOC looks completely lost.
With so many first half TOs I am glad the loss was only 6.
On to the next one.
Rati was pretty good and provided a spark..But I agree..The Jays would have definitely benefited had AOC, Kalkbrenner and Shereef Mitchell actually showed up and played..
Given that, it was pretty impressive to only lose by 6 points to a top 20 ranked team…
BYU won again last night so they will be 8-1 when they face the Jays in Sioux Falls on Saturday. Hopefully the Jays can get the win in this one, it would be a nice non-conference win.
The Creighton loss to Iowa St by 6 doesn't look so bad now, after they blew out Iowa by 20 last night and it wasn't even that close. IA St held Keegan Murray (who was leading the nation in scoring to 9, and he didn't even score until 12 min left in the game) The Clones are now 9-0 and going to be Top 15 easily after this past week.

I saw that- good point. The Jays did not play well at all against the Cyclones, turned the ball over 21 times..and only lost by 6..
Big challenge tomorrow morning against BYU. I hope CU brings their A game…
That is the most concerning thing...the TOs. The bad shooting is one thing but you can play hard and get better looks and overcome that. The TOs on the other hand have got to come down if they want to be successful. Right now they are averaging 14.6 TOs per game, you would like to see that number under 10 for sure.
Saturday’s schedule:
Creighton vs. BYU
Syracuse at Georgetown
Central Connecticut St. at Providence
UCLA at Marquette
UConn vs. St. Bonaventure
Eastern Illinois at Butler
Cincinnati at Xavier
The Jays race out to a big halftime lead, staved off a couple of 2nd half runs, played great overall team defense..And get their best win of the year against a ranked opponent..
Creighton- 83
BYU- 71
The Jays force 15 BYU turnovers. The Cougars, with much more experience, looked like the more inexperienced team today. All credit to the Jays…
Good win for the Jays. First half looked quite a bit better than the second, and there was a point there were things didn't look great, but thankfully they righted the ship.
Now to close it out against Zona State and head into Conference play.
Edit: I will also say, for those worried about how Hawkins would transition into playing DI ball, I think questions have been answered there.

Watching from afar it’s a good thing Creighton has Hawkins as the rest of the team still struggle hitting threes.
“ 44 (Hawkins) was just a handful for us tonight in the first half. We couldn't find any answers,'' BYU coach Mark Pope said. ''He's a big-time shooter, and he's got great range and he gets it up quick. Our guys were surprised early on with how mobile he was and how quick he was to get shots off. That's a learning process. It was a good education for us tonight.''

I am pretty happy with the start of the season. The Jays only have 2 losses and they are to undefeated teams. Although I saw that Nova just lost and only scored 36 pts in the loss. Guess who their next game is (@ Creighton) that could spell disaster for a young Jays team.
Also one other tidbit, the Jays have never lost in the CHI Center on a Friday in the 18 year history of the building.

Creighton is getting one vote in the AP poll released today. They have only lost to #11 IA St and #23 Colorado St.
I really do wish they could have a do-over on that Colorado State game. Then again, CSU could have just as good of a shooting night I suppose, but still, that was insane.
The Iowa State game was just a true slugging match and I am oddly fine with that loss.
I completely agree on both accounts. The Jays didn't bring it against Col St, but the IA ST game, they were in it the whole time. I actually don't think either of those teams is that great (granted I also don't think Creighton is great, they are going to have some good moments, but the shooting is nowhere near where it should be and the TOs have to still come down a lot)
One good thing to note is the Jays have been shooting FTs much better the past few games, including 84% against BYU. (and we also only had 9 TOs in the BYU game)
And add I hope the Jays can finish their non conference schedule strong tomorrow night against Arizona St at CHI..Going into conference play against Villanova with a 9-2 record would be quite an accomplishment- considering how young this team truly is…
Funny thing is, I thought tonight's game was at 8pm CST, but thankfully I checked the other day and saw it was 7. I really hate the 8pm start time, especially for a mid-week game. Fine if I am watching on tv, but not so much to take my little kids to.
