Can we start to get some of these styles downtown?

Not that I think the current downtown buildings are bad, they are usually quite nice. But man let's add some of this spice

Some height like that on that lot would sure look cool.

Agree Aksarben, who Noddle is developing both, looks better than the Builders District. The buildings there so far are really bland and boxy. Not to mention they are all gray/black. Would be nice to have something more eye catching.

Some were upset when the BCBS building came to the Village because it didn't fit the boring height that all the buildings were. As a resident I was happy with it plus HDR as they broke up the landscape. Hope something like the drawing does become a neighbor of the Residence Inn.

Grow Omaha posted about it a while back. They just recently got their building permits withing the last 2 weeks. I can't find the Grow Omaha article now, but here is the building permit:

Is there any affiliation with Saddle Creek Breakfast Club? Or just a similar name?
I don't think there is a relationship between the two.

Talk about the Aksarben Transit Center in the Metro Transit thread got me wondering what was up with the empty lot south of Mercy and west of the creek where the bus stop is.

Turns out the land was just sold earlier this month from Ak-sar-ben Future Trust to Noddle Homes 4 LLC. Has anyone heard anything about Noddle putting apartments there?

I vaguely remember this being discussed on the Grow Omaha episode with the Noddle family a couple weeks back... Didn't give specifics that I can remember except that this was the next parcel to develop.

Kinda surprised this is next given all of the lots that are still undeveloped around HDR. The area west of the creek is so hodgepodge too.

Huh, I used to belong there but needed a gym with basketball courts. Wonder if it was just a membership issue.

Not surprising, honestly. I've noticed walking by occasionally that they've continued to cut back on hours recently.

It's really disappointing because it was an outstanding location when Genesis acquired it as part of their entrance into the Omaha market. When they bought out the 24 Hour Fitness locations, that included my membership and made the Aksarben location an option for me. I used to be a regular there when I worked in Aksarben Village pre-COVID, as it was more convenient than the Cass location. I'm now fully WFH but kept my membership and went there occasionally for a few years. They started slacking on maintenance big time: showers were often broken, equipment was increasingly poorly maintained, even basic cleaning around the facility was lacking. I finally cancelled my membership in 2024. They've clearly been focused on their larger locations like Westroads, the former Prairie Life locations on 84th & 132nd, and the move into the former theater space at Midtown Crossing.

Sometime this past week they announced they had received their liquor license & they are working hard towards being open by 6/11 but they still have a few boxes to check off yet.

Has anyone heard anything about Lockwood Development pondering doing anything in the Aksarben area. The group that is fighting the Center Mall project are doing FOAs & received the attached email string between Lockwood (Emily O,Connor)& the mayors office (Marco Floreoni) during March. In one of them, Mr. Floreani is asking for a narrative, project description & early renderings for city staff for TIF review

I can’t get the photo to attach. Sorry. It’s posted to that groups Fb page—Center Community Coalition (Center Mall Tif Area Omaha)
