Game's over. Nebraska lost 45-42. A missed field goal. This is going to be another rough season.

Re: Nebraska Football 2022
45-42 NU loses..
Let’s marinate on this for a moment- the Huskers give up nearly 700, SEVEN HUNDRED yards of total offense to who? USC? Alabama? Clemson? Georgia??? Nope. Georgia SOUTHERN!!
..
I don’t give a sh!t about a cheaper buyout after October 1st. I’m over watching this team get stepped on and planted deeper and deeper into the Earth..
There MUST be accountability. Heads need to roll. Starting NOW..
This performance was inexcusable and beyond pathetic…

I really thought Frost would make it through to October when the buyout will be less expensive. But this? Is this enough for Trev Alberts to just say "F*ck it, this ends now."

What do you suppose the odds are that Nebraska goes only 1-11 this season?

Re: Nebraska Football 2022
You’ve got to give them some credit, Georgia southern Kicked NU’S |expletive|. They came to play! It will be interesting to see who else they beat and how bad the NU defense really is. It’s funny the announcers were saying GS beat a ‘power five’ team. Wrong. They weren’t playing an NU team from the 90’s. Far from it!
He said "They are some big, ugly red brick buildings"
...and then they were gone.
...and then they were gone.

It's not even worth getting upset about this anymore. Frost has had pretty much zero success at Nebraska. Usually when someone has zero success at a job they don't last very long. How he can coach much longer with his record is crazy, the guy is just good at losing.

Re: Nebraska Football 2022
For the love of god. I listened to the 4th quarter on the radio. The announcers sounded so defeated. A very sad spectacle for Husker fans. Although I do think they still wait until after Indiana. 7 million is 7 million. Why would you trade that for an interim coach that will probably also lose the next two games?
And it hurts my Husker heart to literally hope they lose the next two games and in convincing fashion so we can move on. In the scope of things, the worst thing that can happen is for them to somehow beat Oklahoma and then scrape by Indiana and continue this charade week by week beyond October 1st.

I think it is. Enough is enough. Time for accountability to take over and heads to roll..jag42 wrote: Sat Sep 10, 2022 10:41 pm I really thought Frost would make it through to October when the buyout will be less expensive. Will it actually happen? Probably not. But this loss and performance by NU was so beyond inexcusable, so beyond pathetic, some heads need to start rolling.. If any of us performed this poorly at our jobs for 5 months let alone 5 YEARS, let’s be real- we’d be fired. I was a Frost supporter going into his 4th year. That ship sailed for me about halfway through the 2021 season debacle. Like I said before, I don’t give a sh!t about a cheaper buyout, I’d support heads rolling now- and start at the top..
But again, it likely won’t happen. Fans attending these games..and watch the incompetence we all see play out every Saturday has to take its toll though. Husker fan apathy has hit an all time high..in my lifetime at least.. And for good reason…

Its happened many times. The 2015 loss to BYU, the 2017 loss to Northern Illinois, the 2018 loss to Troy, and now today's 2022 loss to Georgia Southern. Mix in the countless conference losses to what were considered lesser teams, this puts it all in perspective. The Huskers have been BAD since 2015. At least before then, we could count on a measly 9 winsOmaha Cowboy wrote: Sat Sep 10, 2022 11:54 pm Husker fan apathy has hit an all time low, in my lifetime at least.. And for good reason…

Yeah, Frost lost his job for sure today. But I wouldn't doubt if he's playing actual hardnose football with the athletic director to see if he can manage to get his full 15 million buyout. Scott Frost might be tanking on purpose. He could be in a race to see if he can get fired before October 1st to get his money, and Trev Alberts could be in a race to see if he can wait 'til after October 1st before he completely loses the Husker fanbase for all of eternity.
That's gotta be a really stressful decision process.

Second, I had an interesting conversation with an acquaintance who had been on the football team in the late 1990s. He said from what he has heard from other formers NU that Frost seems to be just going through the motion and wanting to be let go.

Re: Nebraska Football 2022
As someone who has followed NU football since the 1960s, who was a big fan from the late 60s when I was a little boy up until probably the turn of this century, when I moved on to other priorities and grew tired of the money machine that college football had become, I must confess I feel a bit sorry for both Scott Frost and Trev Alberts. Of course both are incredibly over-paid for what they do so they will be in a good spot when all of this is resolved.
Frost just needs to take his golden parachute and disappear. Everyone knows that. Most knew it a year ago and now it’s pretty unanimous. Frost seems to be a hard working, nice guy, just like Mike Riley and Frank Solich were. But it wasn’t enough for them and ultimately won’t be enough for Frost.
The problem for Alberts isn’t really the removal of Frost - the facts now require it. His big problem is digging through the Treasure Chest to see who on earth could be put in place to turn the program around in a timely manner. Frankly whomever it is the fans that remain will be justifiably cynical and restless. No rational person sees a return to 8, 9 or 10 win seasons on the horizon. It just won’t happen in the next 4 or 5 years. And that fact alone means that the program will have gone over a quarter century (read that again until it sinks in) since the old “championship days” newspaper clippings turned yellow. More than an entire generation has no real memory of NU being a powerhouse. You can’t see a spark in their eyes when the issue of NU football comes up. The match is wet. It’s all become a foreign language they aren’t interested in learning.

This quote from the latest article by Dirk Chatelain in the W-H conveys why this latest loss is the worst and why I believe Husker fan apathy is at an all time peak now-Busguy2010 wrote: Sun Sep 11, 2022 12:39 amIts happened many times. “Scott Frost, the brash, brilliant golden boy whose parents met 12 miles away on an 8-man football field, who grew up in the east balcony at Memorial Stadium, who busted quarterback records at little Wood River, who produced the Missouri miracle, then conquered Peyton Manning in the Orange Bowl, then persuaded voters to give the retiring Osborne a share of the national championship, then celebrated with teammates in the Miami moonlight by running option plays into the ocean waves — THAT guy became the worst Nebraska football coach in 60 years.
You cannot make it up. To fabricate such details would be pure evil.
This is why anger isn’t my reaction to Saturday’s rock-bottom defeat. Maybe five or 10 or 15 years ago, a home loss to a 23-point underdog from the Sun Belt Conference would’ve prompted outrage. We’re beyond that now.”

Re: Nebraska Football 2022
I definitely also was not mad. I was literally laughing when the Huskers got the ball back tied at 35, and proceeded to do absolutely nothing offensively.
I think last night was figuratively Husker nation, sitting in bed reading the final page of the Scott Frost era, and gently closing the book, taking a deep breath, and turning out the light.
He probably will be here for the next two games, but now everybody knows its over and we all accept it.
I really wanted it to work. It would have been a great feel-good story, and I know he gave it his all, and after seeing his postgame, he's hurt that he couldn't do it, and he knows its over.

And just like that- Frost has been fired-
From Husker on line-
“Scott has been fired as the head coach of Nebraska.
NU Athletic Director Trev Alberts confirmed the news in a statement on Sunday. He will meet with the media on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The decision comes on the heels of Saturday’s 45-42 loss where the Huskers gave up a Memorial Stadium record 642 yards to Georgia Southern. Frost finishes his time at NU with a 16-31 record.”..

Wow, I'm actually surprised.
They still HAVE to beat Indiana, Rutgers, Purdue, Illinois, and they have to steal one of the last four. I think Minnesota is the best bet. I don't have a lot of hope that'll all happen, but it is the path.

Being 1/2 Georgian, I've known about Georgia Southern for forty years, since Erk Russell. They don't suck. That's not a rationalization by the way. However, if I'd been bothered to give a rat's and if anyone had asked, I'd have told them that a GS win was not outside of the realm.

I feel they would wise to try to keep Joseph, Whipple and Applewhite around - keeping those 3 keeps the skilled players that came to NU because of them.

I guess it proves that a past outstanding player does not necessarily make a good head coach. Sad that it took almost 5 years, millions of $ and a lot of disappointments to find out.

The pressure is basically off the team the rest of the season. And you know what, they might actually have more success now that Frost is out of the picture. It will take them a week or so to process the new realities but it will be okay.

Re: Nebraska Football 2022
Pelini won at least 9 games a year. And that was okay I guess. But it was mostly against smaller teams. Cupcakes. He didn't win any real big important games, the ones that mattered the most.
The Husker fanbase was tired of averaging 9 wins and going to a meaningless bowl game every year. They wanted to win conference championships and that wasn't getting done. It hasn't since 1999.
Of course now considering how far the program has fallen, those folks probably long for the Pelini era.

Re: Nebraska Football 2022
Frost probably should have been fired last year and not given the extension. As a former Mavs STH for hockey, my run-ins with his department left me disappointed in Albert's as a leader and manager, but I am willing to put that in the past. Though, his crew did cost the Mavs 4 season tickets and associated fees as well as a lot of bad PR as it relates to how they treated my late wife, and the fish rots from the head down and UNO's ticket office was his responsibility. I am not willing to say that Albert's should get the boot right now, but more f-ups? Then he needs to go.Uffda wrote: Sun Sep 11, 2022 4:10 pm I have been reading some of the comments out on social media and it amazes me that there are these ‘I bleed Husker Red’ fans that felt this was rushed, that Frost should have been given more time, that Trev needs to be let go, - it’s just weird and wild their thought process.

The 'Skers can go 2-10 erry year from now until the end of time and they'll get 80M/yr no matter what. Being a patsy is very lucrative.
And once in a while, the patsy comes into your building, takes the 1.4M check and beats the crud out of the home team. Ask Appy State. Incarnate Word. Marshall.
There's no incentive to get better and all the crying from the fanbase is just that--it's not a metric to be considered.

I'd take Pelini back just as a D.C. He looks saintly next to Meyer. Had Frost gotten a real D.C. he still might have a job. That and I don't know why the O-line wasn't addressed more in the portal?
Frost and his boneheaded game management is gone. Chin will be gone by the end of the year.
It'll be interesting to see what Mickey can do in spite of Chin. I do believe there's talent here and with better coaching and a few more quality linemen I can actually see hope for a winning season next year. I'm a bit more optimistic than some of you. I also have a little more faith in Alberts to at least hire the right guy then the previous clowns(excluding T.O. of course).

I wonder what Frost problem was ?, the guy just never seemed to get much better from his first year here. Was he in over his head ? At times it looked that way. We had five years of barely mediocre football. The whole thing was rather depressing.
Mickey Joseph will get a chance to show what he can do, I know it's not the best situation but maybe he can rally the team and find a way to win a few games. That would be fantastic. Alberts will need to find the best person for the job and it will most likely be the most important decision he will make in his administrative career. I think everyone is getting tired of this coaching merry go round.
