I always have my hood on unless I have the polarizer on. The only reason is that I can not adjust the polarizer with the hood on. Polarizers kick |expletive|!

Chris, have you seen a polarizer for my buzzsaw? One where I can keep it at the widest?

Polarizer filters definitely kick, but not for full time duty. I think you want to pick and choose the times you use the polarizer. If you want a full or most of the time filter, go with a good UV. It won't darken your shots like the polarizer could, which would be important for low light and indoors shots.

Where does one go for renting a lens? I'm tentatively planning to go down to Scottsbluff and would like to rent a wide angle for the trip if it works out.

If anyone is looking for a Canon EF 50mm F/1.4 lens there is one on Craiglist today and if the story is correct it might be a good deal. New on Amazon for about 360 this guy is asking 280 and it is almost new. I have this lens and it is not bad.

Also, check out http://www.rentglass.com

I rented a Canon 100-400 from them, and they were very helpful, and very fair. I would rent from them again, but their stock is sometimes hard to predict.

I somehow missed the Nikon D7000 a couple weeks ago.
http://www.dpreview.com/previews/nikond7000/

Dang. Canon got owned this round. I was waiting to see what was going to come out from both camps in the semi-pro range at Photokina this year. Canon announced the underwhelming 60D as a downgrade in the XXD line to segregate the 7D into a higher category. I think Canon took a step backward to prop up old technology and their semi-pro line is stagnating.

The D7000 does semi-pro right. It's a stellar upgrade from the D90 in every way. I was close to buying the D90 when it was first announced, but Canon came back with an entry level DSLR that did video a hair better with a larger sensor and I stayed with the brand I knew. Now I will patiently wait for some production reviews of the D7000 and hold off buying my ultra wide angle lens until I know which brand I'm going with.

Yeah the D7000 looks nice. Would be a large (on paper) upgrade over my D300. I'm still going full frame though, as soon as Nikon gets off their butt and does the D700 successor. Full frame, 12-24MP, 1080HD vid, weather sealed, metal body, 3k or less, sold.

Got this Medium format Rolleicord last night. Girlfriend's Parent's friend gave it to me. I think it would be fun to pick up a roll of 120 some day and try it out! I haven't shot with one since college!

I was given a similar hand-me-down Yashica D a few years back. I haven't really used it that much, but when I do I seem to be very good at double exposures. :(

Example here:

http://omababe.blogspot.com/2007/09/o-b ... -take.html

Also I really can't get used to the left-to-right backwards image in the viewfinder.

Next on my do-it list for that camera will be shooting some slide film and cross-processing it as color negative. I've actually seen some very impressive work done that way.

First, I know I woke up an old thread

Though it would be worth noting that Canon has discontinued the Canon 5D Mark IV, a long-life, great camera. I know a number of us on here and shot with the 5D series. The original 5D was introduced in 2005

I had two, the 5d Mk1 and the 5D Mk3, and I rented the Mk4 for a week.

That said, I love my R5 so much, I hardly touch either of the 5D cameras these days.

I had a 5D III too and loved it. Still have it. Like you since getting my R5 it doesn't get much use

The 5D was also my first full frame camera. Paired mine with the 24-74 F4L and it was such a great combo.

Man, reading back through some of my old posts from 19 years ago is so embarrassing and cringe. I clearly loved acquiring cameras more than I loved using them. I've caught the bug to go out and start shooting urban landscapes again. I currently shoot a Sony A7IV with a smattering of Sony and Sigma lenses. I've also been tinkering with a new drone, but I haven't got out with it as much as I like.

I should be back out and about in a few weeks to some urban exploring. It's been too long.
