There FB shows the same But it is currently closed.
I remember about 3 or 4 years ago, they had a kitchen fire and another manager change..and were closed for a week or so..then reopened..That place goes through managers faster than water runs through a sink drain. If I had $5.00 for every GM Granite City’s went through since they opened their Omaha location in 2006, I’d be able to take a weeks worth of vacation and not have to burn any work related personal time ...

Open Table is letting me book at table at GC for later this week.
All indications on line show that it’s open for business. I did call them (402) 393-5000 and got their answering machine..which asked me to leave a message.. But no recording saying they were closed for business..
My guess is, they had yet another manager change; and are likely scrambling to get somebody new in place.. I’ve been a long time Mug Club member of GC and would definitely not want the place to close permanently.. Especially since I see they just tapped their take on a New England IPA called “Fog Drift”.. I’m hoping to get over there this coming weekend to give that a try...

There is a sign on the Granite City door today which says "Temporarily Closed".
Yeah. I’m certain they’re lacking a GM and trying to get that structure back in place.. I hope they reopen soon (like this weekend) so I can try their just tapped New England IPA...
Our Omaha location will be re-opening today (Friday) at 4pm and will be celebrating our JUL-IPA Beer Fest tomorrow all day as well. We hope you stop by.

Thanks,
GC.
They must’ve got that GM situation figured out.. Just in time for me to drop in over the weekend and try their newly tapped New England IPA ...
Was in Cuba recently and this was not good for any hopes of redeveloping a taste for heavy beer. Really came to enjoy a beer there called Cristal which frankly makes Coors Light taste full-bodied. Any local breweries that are good at light beer?
The second largest brewery in the KC area, Tallgrass Brewing Co. (Manhattan, KS) has suspended operations and may permanently shut down if they can't find private investors.

Probably the result of virtually every local market having a number of craft options. Places like Green Flash and Tallgrass were early to the craft game and became relatively big players across a number of states, now you can get a similar product made in your backyard.
Green Flash hopefully has it figured out by going nimble with smaller operations like the Lincoln one. Looks like Tallgrass made a big capital investment and demand regionally just ins't there anymore.
I hope some of the local guys like Lucky Bucket and NBC haven't put too much in a large scale production operation that is unnecessary now.
Stopped by the Midtown Crossing location of 5168 Brewery Sunday. We really enjoyed the beer and food. Sometimes you're just in the mood but I want to say their Octoberfest was the best I've ever encountered. And their peanut butter, raspberry jam, bacon cheeseburger made my taste buds so incredibly happy. Our server was cool, too.
My old signature got too old. So old it was getting almost as old me as me. Yeah, it was up there in years.

The only thing that doesn’t work there is the decor. Feels very weird and barren in there IMO.

I went to 5168 a few weeks ago and didn't walk away very impressed with the beer. I'll have to try it again but to me, it seemed a lot like Benson Brewery, Upstream, etc. By that I mean a restaurant that offers beer to complement the food rather than a brewery whose primary focus is on beer.

Yeah, I fully admit to not being a beer expert or anything close to it. But we liked the beers nonetheless. My main focus was the Oktoberfest which is one of my favorite styles. IPAs don't really do it for me. So I didn't find them too bad here because the couple I tried were not over-the-top hoppy.

Back in mid October, I made it to Loop Brewing in McCook. The 24th Nebraska brewery I have visited since 2013. I need to make a return visit, something happened to their brewery and they were unable to make beer for a while. They were just getting re-started and only had one of their own beers on the menu. Cool place in an old freight house right next to the tracks.
TAMMY BAIN, North Platte Telegraph wrote:The brewery, which has yet to be named, will be located on Halligan Drive and feature a 60-person tasting room with a separate banquet area. While Neff doesn’t plan to serve food, he will encourage patrons to order in delivery or bring dinner. He is already hopeful for food trucks. Neff estimates the brewery will open in six to eight months, between July and September.

In another article I read, they are putting much of the blame on e-commerce and the changing dynamic of more people eating at home than going to a restaurant. I personally think they have a difficult time competing in places like Omaha where there are many other similar local businesses, ie. gastropubs, to compete with.
Surprised it took this long. My wife is from Cedar Rapids, IA and people there love GC. I have been to that one numerous times, and I not much of a drinker, so I can't speak to that part of the business, but the food leaves much to be desired. I ordered a burrito there once and the rice on the side was completely cold in the middle of the soup cup they served it in. I have never had rice served in a cup before, let alone served "chilled". What is worse is that a friend that worked there was waiting on us. I had him take it back to the kitchen twice and it was no better.
As ita mentioned, I don't think a place like this stands much of a chance here in Omaha with all the other food and beer options that we have to offer. I have heard the brunch is pretty good, but other than that, I don't think they are going to survive.
I don't think Omaha will have a hard time finding something to fill that space, especially with Top Golf opening right across the road, but in cities like Cedar Rapids, it will probably be much harder to replace.
The Westroads opened in 2006 and the beer/brewery landscape has completely changed since then. People want to go to small neighborhood breweries and drink local beer and get to know the brewer. Trucking in wort from 6 hours away, fermenting it in store, and calling it a "brewery" just doesn't cut it anymore.
We went there a decent amount back in the 2006-2008 time frame. I worked there for a bit in 2010, but the place was a |expletive| show and I quit. I would say the only loss here is for the people that will loose their jobs, but with unemployment so low, I'm sure there are dozens of restaurants that will hire them quickly.

I don't know about that. The spot where Joe's Crab Shack was is still empty.
My prediction is that they won’t close, at least not immediately. They have a loan to pay bills and I’m sure they intend to use it until sold. Houlihan’s (parent company of J Gilbert’s) doing something similar but they already have a buyer in Landry’s if no one else bids, it sounds like Granite City has a similar stalking horse offer for $7.5 million (basically nothing considering).
A few random thoughts:
-Few know that they are publicly traded. Their current stock price is 6.1 cents. I follow restaurants for my job and I’ve never seen it higher than 50 cents.
-Dealing with them on any corporate level is an abject disaster. Worst big restaurant group I’ve ever dealt with, and I’ve dealt with them all.
-My kids like the brunch so we go 1-2 times a year and went on Sunday. It was pretty full, food was acceptable/met expectations, and service was good by Omaha chain restaurant standards.

If that space is predicted to fill fast why is the Joe's Crab Shack in the same area still sitting empty?
For the record NEBUGEATER does not equal BUGEATER !!!!!!!

We haven’t eaten there in maybe 2 years, even though it is only a mile from our home. I just never think of GC when we are going to eat. The food and service were always okay, but nothing memorable.
