Re: Memorial Stadium
The University of Kansas is currently renovating their football stadium. Per an ESPN article today, phase one cost $450 million, and phase two will cost $360 million.
This gives us a feel for the cost involved in college stadium renovation projects. Somehow, getting the money never seems to be an issue. A single donor just gave KU $300 milliion!

Re: Memorial Stadium
Same donor also already had his name on the stadium so this wasn't his first gift. Also, $300 Million is now the single largest donation in college athletics.remline wrote: Wed Aug 13, 2025 9:49 am This gives us a feel for the cost involved in college stadium renovation projects. Re: Memorial Stadium
KU delayed their changes for a long time. But eventually they raised the money. I think now that our stadium renovation/rebuild is delayed, there's a strong possibility that someone steps forward with a large donation as well and gets the project back on track.

Re: Memorial Stadium
I can't figure out how to do a chart.
Number of wins: Tied for 102nd
2025 Season Ticket Price: Tied for 16th
Top Wins
Wins (2015-2024) $ per win
Alabama 124 $106
Clemson 119 $50
Georgia 115 $115
Ohio St 115 $83
Notre Dame 101 $95
Nebraska 50 $96 (Tied for 102nd)
Sorted by price per win
Wins (2015-2024) $ per win
Colorado 51 $235
Texas A&M 77 $171
Kansas 31 $155
Vanderbilt 40 $151
Texas 80 $150
Nebraska 50 $96 (Tied for 16th)
There are a ton of variables in this. Vacated wins, donation fees are not included, some teams have moved into FBS, price is based on 2025 and places like Colorado recently raised their prices. This also looks at both home and away wins.

Re: Memorial Stadium
Well, I mean, it's pointless to look across all of the FBS and to think that all wins are the same. The B1G and SEC are like the NFL. Even the worst NFL teams are still worth watching. It'd be silly to say that the 2024 Patriots weren't worth watching because they had a low win-to-ticket-price ratio last year.
And then it's silly to compare Husker ticket prices to somebody like Purdue, because even when we're losing, we're a destination stadium that away fans love to flock to. Even just casual fans of football like to buy tickets for the Huskers, even if they don't follow them. It's a bucket list type of item to see a game at Memorial.
I think some of this doomposting about Husker ticket prices is either coming from people who don't really want the program to succeed, or those that just want cheaper tickets, like me. And I'll say that even at these lower prices, they're still not low enough for me to justify taking the whole family and deal with crappy food, upset troughs, and long commercial breaks. So that means that there are still fans like myself that *would* go to the games if they were cheaper. I don't think the sellout streak ends this year. There's endless people who would go if the price was right.

Re: Memorial Stadium
Honestly, my "I'll buy" ticket price is $25 (for any game). And that is because of all the other factors/costs tied into attending. The "premier" game pricing is all BS anyways. You can't predict the competitiveness of a game, and very few B10 teams travel here en masse.riceweb wrote: Wed Aug 13, 2025 2:08 pm

But, the game is changed. The appeal is gone. They could have a 10 win season this year and I would change my opinion about it, or anyone else I know that used to be a fan. I can't even tell you who our coach and starting running back is.
As someone said earlier. the OWH isn't going to survive based on the non existent hype this year.

"Nebraska football is about to fall apart" always strikes me as wishcasting.
If the team is bad, they will struggle to fill the seats, as they have for years. The team is on a very long term but very slight downward trend. If the team is good, people will go nuts from pent up energy.

I'm a Husker fan, always will be! But it doesn't take a genius to realize they can't fill the stadium now (legitimately)... the sellout streak is a joke at this point.
If they (Huskers) were contenders and were dominating, they probably wouldn't have even allowed alcohol sales in the stadium this year. As a fan, I am glad they finally opened this up - but I think they did it more out of hope to keep people coming than as a courtesy to offer fans something they really want.
I hope to see them get back to that point and I'm optimistic they'll be better this year than in recent years. But boy, do I miss the 90's teams.
It will be interesting to see what they do in the next couple of years with the food service side of things - with this new contract, there's no guarantees they'll continue offering Fairbury hot dogs, Runzas or Valentino's pizza. If they drop any of these, it will be a sad day in Husker nation, IMO.
Just curious what leads you to believe this? Their media deals, especially TV have overall greatly increased. They merchandising deal with Addidas is the highest one they've ever had. Questioning why you think their overall revenues are down...
Also I think they got enough feedback (or you could say pushback) on what the fans want foodwise that we are not in any way at risk of losing Runza, Fairbury or Val's. Actually I think they may go the opposite direction and bring back Amigo's to Memorial Stadium.

This year it is required becuase they are still under contract and the new guys had to assume the remainder of the agreement. Only time will tell if they stay post the current contracts. Correct - there are no guarantees... and this new "agreement" does not include them. Sure, fans can gripe, but ultimately do you think they'd care if they dropped a Runza or a particular hot dog? The thin margins that appear when plugging in that extra $20.5 million in rev share that hasn’t been a budget item before shows that Nebraska football administrators and fans will need to keep a wary eye.
This is not just a Nebraska problem.

You specifically pointed out football, they had a budget surplus of $44 million, and the rest of the athletic department is in the black because of the football revenue. Of course there is going to be challenges in future years due to revenue sharing but it is in no way due to football’s margins or lack of revenue as you said.djc311 wrote: Thu Aug 21, 2025 10:21 pmhttps://huskercorner.com/nebraska-footb ... e-eyebrowsLinkin5 wrote: Thu Aug 21, 2025 4:58 pmhttps://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/A ... -revenues/djc311 wrote: Thu Aug 21, 2025 3:52 pmRevenue was a poor choice of words - change it to net profit/profit margins.Greg S wrote: Thu Aug 21, 2025 11:35 amCan you clarify your revenue comment? Dannen said it is because of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's budget deficit.
"Now is not the time to debut a big capital project," Dannen said.
Football accounted for $128.1M in revenue -- a surplus of $44M measured against expenses
The athletic department also had over $70 million in donations in the 24-25 academic year and is not weighed down by debt like many Big Ten athletic departments.

WOW - I think more people on here are adamant about football budgets, revenues, etc than crime in the Omaha metro and other relevant topics.
I stand corrected!
As mentioned before, I've been a Husker fan for 40+ years - at the very least, a simple observation can be made that it's not what it used to be.

It's because some of these mistakes have been repeated for so many years by naysayers for lack of a better term. Are there new challenges, of course. But despite what many are led to believe, even with the downturn in wins, Nebraska has one of the most fiscally sound athletic departments in the country. Incredibly places like Ohio State and Texas have significant debt, where Nebraska doesn't (or when they do have debt, it's retired with a plan and quickly). Football continues to generate growing revenues and has a steady stream of donations as well. Would be nice if we got a donor like Kansas has though with David Booth.djc311 wrote: Fri Aug 22, 2025 7:39 am WOW - I think more people on here are adamant about football budgets, revenues, etc than crime in the Omaha metro and other relevant topics.

Basketball and volleyball traditionally turn profits as well but football is the key.
The other thing is remember, the athletic department gets not funds from the university, it's full self sustaining (again rare) and has over the years given millions back to the university.
Make no mistake. The pause on the stadium renovations was driven mainly due to the optics of pushing forward at time when the academic side is facing a shortfall and initiating cuts.

I listened to Sean Callahan speak at a dinner last night. One of the things he touched on was finances. I am summarizing from memory, but in general, he said that Tickets used to be #1 in the ranking of revenue sources. It is now #3
The #1 source is now the media share from the B1G. #2 is donor contributions. Last year was the highest it has ever been. That moved tickets to #3 He didn't say it diretly but the flavor of the message was that they were OK but as always need to stay ahead of the game with revenue generation

That is correct, and for the 23-24 academic year Nebraska had the most media rights revenue in the nation.nebugeater wrote: Fri Aug 22, 2025 1:02 pmI listened to Sean Callahan speak at a dinner last night. Additionally, to Greg’s point, many schools have a massive debt problem while Nebraska does not. I believe the debt highlighted here was related to the Osborne Legacy Complex and has since been paid.

On the radio this morning, many people were blaming it on the removal of vendors in the stands. Before you could get Hotdogs, Pizza and Runzas from vendors walking around, but now you needed to go to the concession stand for everything, which pushed a lot more people to the concessions stands.Louie wrote: Mon Sep 08, 2025 10:45 amI'm willing to give them a few games leeway. I’ve heard that as well. What a complete unforced error, there was no reason to take those away especially considering fans can’t temporarily leave the stadium at half any longer and the addition of beer sales.Brad wrote: Mon Sep 08, 2025 10:50 amOn the radio this morning, many people were blaming it on the removal of vendors in the stands. Re: Memorial Stadium
That is NOT an excuse they can use. They fell on that sword and lost that excuse when they made the change and said that they partnered with the industry's best, which was in a significant % of all major venues. If they knew what they were doing, there would only be minor missteps. This was a total fail.Louie wrote: Mon Sep 08, 2025 10:45 amI'm willing to give them a few games leeway. Before the game and during halftime, the in-stadium crew was stationed throughout the concourse, selling and relieving the pressure on the stands.
