I have speculated that this space has already been leased since Amego moved out. I live close by and have never seen a For Lease or any type of available sign-up for this location.

Actually it was NOT leased before Amigo's moved out. The landlord recently held a closed event on site for retail real estate brokers. A couple quick-serve Mexican restaurants competed for the space and D'Leon's won.

Lots of the buildings in downtown Gretna are currently getting a facelift. New Salon, Sports card shop and possibly a new cocktail/coffee shop are all moving down there. Here’s a rendering of the the face lift the fox building is getting.

There is a lot of potential in Gretna's traditional main street area. I believe the new city facilities that broke ground on the S side of Gretna along the highway will include a new library. With that, the building that houses the children's library will be available for repurposing. Also, the old fire station that houses the city offices will be potentially available. No idea if the city plans to keep it for something, but I hope it gets a chance at a new purpose.

Gretna pays the Sarpy County Sheriff's Department $923,000/year for police coverage in lieu of Gretna having its own police department. Then, you call the Sheriff's non-emergency line to report some suspicious activity or the like and get told they don't have a deputy in Gretna at the moment, so it'll be a bit. For $1M year there should be at least one deputy in the Gretna city limits 24/7. I'm guessing all the increased grumbling about things like that and the cries for Gretna to go back to having its own police department are the motivating reason behind this.

What does that mean? The Gretna location isn't going to be a Rally Coffee? The Gretna location is going to be a Rallly Cofee, but with different ownership? What an odd way of wording it.

I saw this morning on their Facebook page that The Beanery is opening on Aug 6 in the location that Rally left.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BJSqtBP4s/

The First Benery location was in Gretna and has been around for a long time.
They have the original location and one in Asland, Papillion, at 168th & Giles, and not this location.

They have a facebook page for the Gretna location I have been following

I saw in the Grow Omaha email newsletter that Cinnaholic will finally be opening in Gretna on 9/20/2024. I was wondering what the delay way. They finished construction quite awhile ago. I was a little worried something fell through.

Actually, I don't think they finished all that long ago. There seemed to me to be a long pause when they were well along. I drive by daily and many times more than once a day. I noticed that things seemed to stop, so I started to pay attention. One tell for me was a large step ladder that sat inside the front window kind of in the middle of no where. I watched this not move for at least five weeks as an indicator that nothing was going on. Once it final was moved things started happening again and then shortly the opening date was announced.
A post on the Omaha Food Lovers group on FB said yesteday that Cinnaholic was closing as of Sunday. There was no mention of this on the Cinnaholic Gretna Facebook page.

Today there is no Cinnaholic Gretna Facebook page to be found. It was there yesterday. Could be tied to the servier outages but putting two and two together looks like they lasted just a little over a year. Will drive throgh the lot on my way home tonight

Now, time for my layperson analysis...

It just didn't seem like a good fit for that location. It's one of those strip malls that by the time you see what's in it you've already missed the turn and this really feels like an impulse choice, "Ooh, cinnamon rolls! Let's stop and get one!" Who needs a dedicated cinnamon roll store? Especially, with an existing Cinnabon down the highway inside Pump & Pantry. Also, I think people associate cinnamon rolls with breakfast and I think most people already have an established breakfast routine (e.g. get iced coffee and breakfast sandwich from xyz chain). Finally, I think the vegan thing was just scaring the average customer off. They were worried they'd taste funny or not be as good as a standard cinnamon roll.

They really needed to be paired with another business similarly to how Cinnabon is inside of Pump & Pantry.

I will add, and posted this on FB too, that they were really shortsighted with their Hours. To your point, they are often part of a breakfast routine and definitely a morning thing. They did not open until 8AM, and that takes all the potential customers out of the mix that may grab one or a few on he way to work. Open sooner and close sooner if you don't want to be open longer

Also, prices were crazy.

Location is not great but it CAN work

The amount of advertising they did, at least that I saw, was very limited

Custom Diesel Driver Training, an Omaha-based truck-driving school, plans to move its headquarters and classrooms into the former Spikers Sports & Spirits in Gretna.

Currently, in South O. per the story, they were originally near Sapp Brothers.

As reported on Grow Omaha, the Former Spikers location that had been Custom Diesel Driver Training recently will be the new home of a Dingman's Collision Center

D’Leon’s Taking Former Amigo’s Space in Gretna
Mar 3, 2025
D’Leon’s Taco Rico has signed a lease for the former Amigo’s/King’s Classic space at 11855 South 216th Street in Gretna, according to Ed Petsche of NAI NP Dodge, who represented the tenant. D’Leon’s will start renovating the 2,200 sq. ft. space soon and plans to open this spring.

Random Observation

I drive by this D’Leon’s Taco Rico all the time, only living a few blocks away. I wonder how things are going for them. I almost never see where anyone is inside, and I do not see many vehicles in the drive-through. Maybe they are just so fast no one needs to sit in line. Does anyone else in the area have any thoughts or go there? My wife picked up food from there to bring home once. Key word is once.

Interesting you say that because I'm somewhat close to their location they had near 168th & Harrison - it's down on a little frontage road by Williamsburg Pizza, JJ's, Fareway, etc... and I noticed going through Runza the other day this location is already closed.

Typically when you open a new store, you sign at least a 5 year lease... I don't think it's been 5 years already, but maybe it has been. In any case, it's not easy to break commercial leases so to see stores hop around and open new locations somewhat easily is surprising to me.

I never even had a chance to try the one near 168th...

Looks like there's something going on at the former Cinnaholic location that closed last October.

About two weeks ago, the "for lease" signs came down from the window. The last few days, as I go by on my way home, there has been evidence of work inside.

Wonder what's next.
