I wasn't comparing them, just saying that's what I want Scott Frost to be like. I mean, if he could simply go 6-6 every year from here on out, he would maybe be here for the rest of his life. The Skers wrote off anything resembling a winning season when they got rid of a coach that consistently won 9 games. If yer gonna win 4 games a year, might as well do it with a guy you know and like. They need to lie in the bed they made. Nobody else wants the job, or could even do better, IMO. They suck. I love em still.omaha79 wrote: Mon Oct 18, 2021 2:17 pm Unfortunately, this is a false equivalency to try to compare Frost to Ferentz. Frost will finish 4 seasons, all of them losing. Ferentz finished 7-5 in year 3 before going off for 11-2, 10-3, and 10-2 in his next 3 seasons. He shared conference titles in years 4 and 6 in Iowa City. After year 4, Ferentz record was 22-26, but that includes a 1 & 3 win season in years 1-2. Frost will likely finish season 4 somewhere in the range of 16-28. Ferentz was showing clear progression each year. Frost has not shown anywhere near that type of forward progress beyond intangibles like "derp, de derp, they looked so good losing. derp.
Ferentz has had 4 total losing seasons in 23 years. Frost will have 4 losing seasons in 4 years. It is an insult to Kirk Ferentz, who inherited a much tougher situation than Frost from a facilities and fan support aspect than Frost ever did.

Scott Frost's buyout is 20 million. That is nothing to guys like Rickets and Buffett and even Larry the Cable Guy. Trev Alberts is not going to go down with Frost's ship.bigredmed1 wrote: Mon Oct 18, 2021 7:41 pm He has definitely done a bad job. We have simply got an Athletic Dept that has screwed the pooch with previous coaches and the bucks we have to cover to pay them off and the money it will cost to put together a recruitment package for the next one. I think that the number of people with the deep pockets and willingness to cough up the substantial donations needed is getting really small. I would not be surprised if the number of STHs drops along with the seat tax receipts.
I admit that I could be underestimating the depth of the money waiting to pour into the AD to buy him out. I do think that a condition of this buyout is that the AD is not allowed to extend a coach’s contract without proven success.
Trev Alberts has already loaded the Brinks truck to send out for our new coach. Scott Frost is a dead man walking. Look in Scotts eyes and you can see he knows it.

Grandpa, you may be right, but I think that both Ricketts and Buffett have other things they would want to support besides buying out Frost. Then buying in the new coaching staff. Really, it would be more like $30million by the time you figure his buy out and the recruitment package.
There may well be enough cash out there, but I think we are looking at a point in time where the Skers are just not the draw they used to be. Even for rich guys.

Didn't Frost say that NU will never have to fire him? That if he isn't getting the job done he'd resign before that ever became an issue.bigredmed1 wrote: Mon Oct 18, 2021 7:41 pm He has definitely done a bad job. Time for that chump to put up or shut up. He should resign and take a much smaller buyout, maybe equivalent of a year, if he really cares one iota about the program.

That won’t happen. He might care, but his agent who stands to get 10% of the buyout is going to care. His wife and kids are going to care. When he finds that no one wants to hire him after being bit by so many snakes over the years, he will find that his love for the Skers is a lot less and he will want the whole payout.omaha79 wrote: Tue Oct 19, 2021 7:43 amDidn't Frost say that NU will never have to fire him? Sounds like just more lip service, lies, and unkept promises from the Frost regime. Don't make a bold statement you don't intend to keep. At least there's no game this week. So I guess we don't have to worry about the Huskers shooting themselves in the foot and finding ways to lose.

Good news. Wisconsin knocked off Purdue 30 to 13. There was no way that Nebraska was going to beat Purdue if they had beat Wisconsin today. Scott Frost has never beat a ranked team and more then likely never will as the coach of Nebraska.
It looks safe to assume that Nebraska will finally get that illusive 4th win of the year next week against Purdue.

It was not an upset for Nebraska to lose to Illinois. Illinois was at Home and they are a better program then Nebraska. So yeah that so called big loss has been way over hyped. We lost to a better team end of story. Penn State is way over hyped and they had their hands full against Illinois. Penn State has the same big problems that Nebraska does which are a weak quarterback and a defense that can not stop the run.Busguy2010 wrote: Sat Oct 23, 2021 6:01 pmI guess Illinois isn't as bad a loss as we thoughtmrsticka wrote: Sat Oct 23, 2021 4:27 pm Illinois upset Penn State 20-18 in 9 overtimes! I watched that game and by the so called 3rd overtime I was ready to shoot myself in the head. That overtime ending was a travesty. Just play another quarter and if they are still tied at the end then it is a tie.

Illinois is 3-5 just like Nebraska whereas Penn State is 5-2. Illinois doesn't have much of a chance of making a bowl game. So how can they possibly be better than Nebraska or Penn State?

College OT should simply change to the same OT rules the NFL uses..Busguy2010 wrote: Sat Oct 23, 2021 6:01 pm Also this reinforces my disdain for college overtime rules.

Illinois winning today makes Frost job even harder. How can a new coach Bret Bielema get a signature win in his first year at lowly Illinois ? How can that be ? We are still waiting in year four. With the Illinois win Nebraska is in danger of finishing in last place in the west.

Right.. Like I intimated earlier, I’ve always prescribed to simpler is better. If you’re going to have OT in college football, make it consistent with the NFL for the game’s sake..jag42 wrote: Sat Oct 23, 2021 10:09 pmAgree. Nebraska is a 6 point favorite over Purdue on Saturday. The odds makers did a good job of setting the point spread. This looks like a tough bet to pick for sure.

Nebraska is up to an 8 point favorite now.
I could not help but see a possible veiled hint in today's paper that if Frost gets fired then Adrian Martinez might transfer to Northwestern or Minnesota. If that is true those coaches might want to rethink that idea.

I have no read or gauge on this Husker football team..Other than they continue to play mind numbing stupid football at the most crucial time of games..
If NU wins and doesn’t cover or covers the spread, neither would surprise me..with the talent they have, they *should* defeat teams like Minnesota and Purdue..
If NU loses a close game, that will be least surprising of all, considering it’s their M.O.- getting blow out by Purdue at home might get me to raise my right eyebrow a little bit..but even that won’t surprise me tbh…

If Purdue beats em and they continue to lose out, Frost is most likely gone. Unfortunately, that could very well happen. Hope it doesn't because I want Frost to work out, but the Husker football program is a straw house and any slight misstep will bring it down.

I believe interest in Husker football has waned since they lost to Michigan and Minnesota. I enjoyed the bye week last week and plan to be outside tomorrow afternoon and not watching them on TV. I think the very best we can hope for is a 4-8 season. No matter what happens Alberts will most likely give Frost one more season mainly due to the Pandemic, which probably bought him another year.

I don't like this Nebraska team one bit despite all the talk about how improved they are. I'm not seeing it. This is one of the worst teams that Nebraska has ever fielded in my entire life. Even though Nebraska is favored and they are due to win I think they could lose this game real easy.
Against all reason and common and sense I will pick Nebraska to beat Purdue 31-27

Yet another stupid, mistake ridden loss..
28-23 Purdue..
Adrian Martinez (and the offensive line) is the poster child for the inconsistent, mind-numbing unintelligent play the Huskers have exhibited this season.. yet another loss which can be clearly pinned on 3 stupid Martinez interceptions (he threw 4, but the last one wasn’t his fault)..
3-9 Is the likely end to this 2021 NU college football season of misery

I would split time between Martinez and Smothers for the remaining 3 games. Start Martinez but Bring Smothers in for the 2nd quarter. We need to see what Smothers can do, no better time to find that out than now. Makes no sense to keep Martinez in all the time when the season is circling the drain.

That way either Frost squeezes out a 7-5 and a Christmas Eve bowl, or his buyout is more palatable than it'd be now.Cermak wrote: Fri Oct 29, 2021 9:27 pm I believe interest in Husker football has waned since they lost to Michigan and Minnesota. Man...
I just don't know what to say. I'm not sure Scott Frost gets another year now... If he does, he needs to show Adrian Martinez the door and find him a transfer QB. I can't do another year of Adrian Martinez. Some will say the offensive line is the issue, but I have seen Martinez whiff it way too many times with 3, 4, 5+ seconds to either throw or get going. And this loss totally lies at his feet, just like many of the ones before. He's accounted for only a few special wins and moments, and wayyy more head slappers.
