Its not even the 90's stuff that I don't like, its the new whiny cryin "rock" music of the past 5 or so years that I don't like. I do like new some new music, but it just not that mainstream crud they play on the "rock" radio stations.

I'm with ya on the mainstream crud. For me good rock died in the 90's, there's still good stuff out there but it's been driven underground by the generic empty soul-less fast food product that poses as music today.

If you think Z-92 is bad, the River is now completely unlistenable. The lack of talent and undeveloped musical taste of today's youth is depressing.

What alarm clock/drive-time morning FM radio shows does everyone listen to?

Is there any actual Omaha-based morning shows?
Todd & Tyler are actually local on Z-92.
For the last couple months I have been listening to Billy & Judi on KGOR but they are not local. They are starting to get on my nerves and I need to move on. They spend too much time teasing what is coming up next.

My drive-time go-to is the thump thump of my dog following me to my basement office. I don't remember the last time I listened to a radio morning show, even when I was going into the office. Always opted for Spotify.

When we are in México we listen online to KIOS/NPR from about 7 am until 10 am. When in Omaha we don’t really listen to morning “drive time” radio. I also listen to various Sirius/XM stations while in the car.

I mostly listen to NPR on Kios or music on CD105.9 on the drive into work. CD105.9 doesn’t really have a morning show per se. When near Lincoln I’ll tune in to The Eagle. I think it’s 92,5 or something close. I’ve never really liked morning blather since Otis Twelve and Diver Dan Doomy were on Z92. Otis is on KVNO now which is strange,

He also does a takeoff of TV game shows “Catch it and you Keep it!” Where the host tosses valuable prizes off the roof of a building to contestants on the ground below. The diamond ring was a popular “catch”, but the Amana side by side refrigerator/freezer was another matter entirely.

I hate when the channels change… just like the Big Party Show getting axed last year. Feel bad for the DJs because I’m sure they get blind sided with it.

Holy |expletive|! I thought it was big when Usher bought up all the NRG properties out in Grand Island and Kearney, but now the rest of the Omaha NRG signals as well???

He's the son-in-law of Jay Vavricek, former GI mayor and longtime owner of several GI area and western Nebraska stations. Alan has been running them and was part owner along with his wife. Dad bought them out to allow Alan to legally own most of the rest of the stations in the Central Nebraska market.

He bought them all up at a fraction of their early 2000's value. It will be interesting to see what he spent for the Omaha stations.

In addition to selling Classic Alternative “101.9 The Keg” KOOO La Vista/Omaha NE to Nebraska Public Media, NRG Media is selling the remainder of its Omaha cluster to Alan Usher’s Usher Media for an undisclosed amount.

Usher Media, which agreed to acquire NRG Media’s Grand Island/Kearney NE cluster in November, will purchase NRG’s five other Omaha stations: Hot AC “Sweet 98.5” KQKQ-FM, Rhythmic CHR “Power 106.9” KOPW, “Yacht Rock 1180” KZOT, News/Talk 1290 KOIL, and Sports “1620 The Zone” KOZN.

Usher, who previously served as CEO of Grand Island based GI Family Radio, commented, “This acquisition is a statement of belief in Omaha and in Nebraska. Local radio matters. Local leadership matters. We are committed to building a broadcast presence that reflects the strength of this community and delivers real value to the businesses and people who call it home.”

NRG Media CEO Mary Quass said, “We have had a wonderful partnership with Omaha and are
happy that Alan Usher and his group will continue that relationship.”

I don't get how the whole NPR format works. Why would they want another station if they already have KIOS? I feel like flipping through the dial we also get an Iowa NPR station too?

Between all the changes in Omaha Sports Radio, 101.9 going away, and as I mentioned in another thread, none if the FM Stations "staying in their lane", I'm seriously thinking about a satellite radio subscription. Most of the time in the car, I feel like all I do is hit the scan button and never really listen to anything.

I don't even drive that much... about 50-60 min a day back and forth to work, but I do have Sirius. If you watch for specials, I think they still offer it for about $4/month, which is what I pay. I think that's pretty fair considering what I pay for Spotify and Amazon Music.

No, there is no Iowa PBS radio station anywhere near to Omaha.
And “they” don’t have KIOS. That station is run by the Omaha Public School District, as I recall. At least in years past their studio was located in what was Omaha Tech High School. I used to do some volunteer work for the station back around 1980.

Unfortunately, those are generic basic ratings. The demographic based ratings (example 18-34 moring drivetime) are the ratings advertisers care most about and those are kept behind paywalls.

Saw a mention on Friday that it was Emery Songer's last day of doing afternoons on KFAB, and he was going to focus on his WHO on-air work.

It stated that KFAB would have an announcement very soon on who would be taking over the afternoon's. Saw a Tom Becka post that said, "people stop mesaging me, it's not me"

1110 KFAB afternoon host Emery Songer is departing the iHeartMedia Omaha news/talk station to focus on his efforts in middays at 1040 WHO in Des Moines.

Songer has helmed afternoons since June 2023. He joined 1110 KFAB after previously serving as the morning show producer at 1040 WHO for five years.

In a statement, 1110 KFAB Program Director Scott Voorhees shared that Songer won’t be completely gone from the station despite hosting his final show with the outlet last Friday.

They have a waiver to hold onto the permit for a year. My guess is that they are looking to sell it off. Would love to see Walnut Media buy it, and move Husker sports back to 590.

I heard the afternoon DJ on 101.9 the KEG say that starting next week they will be on Sweet 98. I wonder if that means this is the last week for the KEG before they go to NPR?
