Even though I knew it would be razed, something in me liked seeing it like that. The Jimmy John's was absolutely bumpin last time I went by there, and I actually wish it would stay like that. It looks better now than it will.

I live right by and typically drive past it on my morning commute, and there's something almost absurdist about the old style Jimmy John's nestled into the courtyard of an L-shaped modern apartment complex. It's completely dwarfed by the other buildings around it, and because of the way the buildings sit, your eye is kind of drawn towards the middle where, expecting maybe a green space, you instead find a fast food chain. Very American urban design, lol.
They will be moving into a bay of the new apartment building when it is done and the standalone building will be torn down.
And ruin the aesthetic of the neighborhood??

Maybe the building could add a car wash?

I mean yeah, to compete with the one going in across the street. That's the usual m.o.

It seems like the aesthetics are often surprisingly set by "grandfathered" signage rules in Omaha. There should be a way for the City Counsel to override grandfathered signage rules. This should especially apply to the old Cossroads sign at 72nd & Dodge!

Omaha By Design got rid of a lot of the pole signs over the years, especially along Dodge between 69th & 84th, replacing them with monument signs. Anyone know the limitations to the grandfather clause?

Not sure of the details without looking it up. I think it likely gets more complicated when the State of Nebraska Highway Dept. gets involved with their own set of rules. Omaha by Design deserves a lot of credit for their impact in the community though!
