Not sure how it compares, but they did move the Big Boy and the other locomotive to Kenefick Park.

Seems to me that moving them just up to the area in front of where the river city star is at would be a good option. I think you would get better exposure to them and more people would visit them if they were close to abbott drive. Hardly anyone I talk to even knows they are there.

I like this idea a lot. It's City owned land, there's plenty of space, it would add another 'destination' to the Riverfront, and serve as a nice capstone to the north end of the Riverfront trail. Unless that area gets flooded as well, it makes too much sense not to move those artifacts there.

Yeah, that would be nice, but talk about your seriously out-of-the-way destination. It's not even a "hidden gem", it's just straight hidden.

Is this Freedom Park still on 2497 Freedom Park Rd, or have they moved this later to Millers Landing near Gallup Dr after the Missouri River flooding?

The guys that are putting in all the volunteer time to maintain the hazard are AWESOME!!! I am so glad to see so much effort put in to preserving these artifacts. I wish the city would do more to support their efforts though. If you ask around, most don't even know that park exists, even some that have lived in Omaha their entire lives. Then for those that do know about it, you greeted by a road that looks abandoned leading to it, passing by an abandon marina to a the park grounds, that have looked better. Sure would be nice to see some money spent here to make it more attractive going in.

Theres been a lot of work going on out here this summer, looks like most of the old anchor inn that was flooded and abandon for the last few years has been cleaned up as well as the lake and parking lot. Looks like the goal is to turn it back into a campground.

Freedom Park is great guys.

USS Hazard is in great shape and well maintained. I've been on a lot of museum ships around the country (most recently Iowa in Long Beach) and the Hazard is right up there with them.

Lots of great other historical artifacts there too such as stern plates and anchors to some historic ships.

Open limited hours on the weekends during the spring-summer-fall.

Even if you are slightly interested in naval history, this is worth a stop.

The same guy tried to get something going in there temporarily last year for the CWS but I don't think he had enough time.
