I just read the brief article from the OWH and they say no one will confirm it. Now I can understand if they want to keep things quiet, however when you plaster that stuff all over the front of a storefront you have to know you'll be bombarded with questions. I mean it's not like they just threw up some random signage like Sony, Pepsi or something random.

I totally agree - however, I also don't see that EVER happening. IF we get lucky perhaps someday our property taxes (or other taxes) won't continue to increase at the rates they do.

Wow - what a |expletive|-thing to do. Obviously companies are free to advertise however they can and would like to. But it is a crappy way to do it by throwing your logo all over an empty retail space. I mean they (in this case LEGO and NEX) can't reasonably think by plastering that all over a vacant store front it wouldn't lead most of the general public to interpret this as a sign of a future store. If it were advertising for existing retailers at the shopping center then I think people wouldn't expect anything new (Bose, Nike, Ralph Lauren, etc). They do that at indoor shopping malls all the time.

Watch - soon you'll see a ton of signage and promotion for an IKEA at Oak View Mall only to find out there's no way in heck they'd ever open there.

One edit - I did send an email AND a message via FB messenger to NEX asking about the potential of a LEGO store. I simply told them we were out there shopping and saw the signage or advertising. I found it surprising that I actually didn't get ANY type of response... not a "we'll see", or even a "no" or "maybe". Pretty poor marketing management on their end if they won't even bother responding to basic questions.

Maybe Lego couldn't work it out with NEX ownership, but they are still looking for another possibile location in the metro? Know knows anything at this point. you're absolutely correct - could still be happening there or elsewhere. However, if it is happening for sure then keeping it shrouded in secrecy won't change where it's probably going to go at this point. They may as well tell us.

Hard to say - perhaps the NEX guys were on the list and they ended up pissing LEGO in some way so they walked.

I would think LEGO wouldn't slap their advertising all over a storefront space at NEX to "test the waters" only to decide to place a store in Des Moines. I imagine Omaha is still under consideration, however I am very surprised they'd see a store before our market.

I was thinking about this today. While dsm is by the far smaller msa/csa, it is centrally located for a 3 million population state. I think drawing a 2 hour catchment for both dsm and Omaha would give dsm an edge, but that is just a guess. Someone on here must know, but that may be a factor.

Additionally, I hope NEX management didn't blow it with Lego. Seems like too important of a tenant to make unreasonable demands or botch negotiations. Anyway, I hope Omaha still is being considered.

If we are going on catchment alone, Omaha makes the most sense still for most scenarios IMO.

If a `3 hour catchment: Omaha would catch DSM, Lincoln (easily) Kearny / Hastings / Grand Island, Sioux Falls, Kansas City and Sioux City.

Des Moines loses a few of those, but Kansas City is among them. A few cities are added, so without doing the math and excluding KC it's likely close to a wash.

I actually wonder if KC was the deciding factor. Omaha might cannibalize too many sales in KC with its catchment, or it can spread its dollars more evenly between KC and DSM...

Well obviously first task at hand here is someone get the freakin' drawing. Second, not sure who typed this but simply based upon their typographical errors they were either in a REALLY big hurry or they don't know what they're talking about. For example, never heard of a "Louis Victor's" store, guessing that's meant to be Louis Vuitton. To be that into perspective the closest Louis store to Omaha is 6ish hours away either in Minneapolis, Chicago or St. Louis. KC doesn't even have one yet.

Granted if this was simply a coloring page of a hypothetical retail layout expansion for NEX then I suppose any kid could easily crayon-in any brands they'd like. Why not include a Lamborghini shop, Chanel and a few others while we're at it?

I would love to see IKEA and these others (including LEGO of course) in the Omaha area but even I would find some of this extremely hard to believe.

If anything my guess is that Rod Yates printed something out to show to potential investors, developers, etc and simply plopped down some big names to dress it up as much as possible.

I mean the fact it was presented just like that makes me feel like things are not right. Who would send out a survey with such a question? It went on to ask how much I'd consider paying to attend an NHL game, how much I'd pay for season tickets, etc.

I don't believe that's the type of market research that's done to determine whether or not we're getting a professional sports team.

As for the legitimacy of the post, the errors don't particularly ruin credibility. The poster may in fact just have been sloppy and or may not be particularly familiar with Louis Vitton. If you read the post it seems they're most excited for the possibility of Portillos. It's not like many of these rumored potential retailers haven't been mentioned from other sources including NeX. I do not particularly care personally whether many of these retailers come but can appreciate the excitement that many of them seem to generate. I also do not see why it's so unfathomable that some of these unique new to the market retailers could end up here as that's exactly the M.O. of NeX. I mean if you think there's a legit chance at NHL why not an IKEA or Lego store? It seems entirely plausible that Lego is and has been committed but choose to be a part of the expanded NeX rather than locating in the existing mall.

THe first thing that jumped out to me that said this is fake at best is that IKEA was on a lot size that might hold a large gas station.
