2022 Bird Thread (Eagles, Sandhill Cranes, Etc)

With it being cloudy I couldn't tell for sure, but the feathers didn't appear to be that grey... thought it was more of a white color. The one other thing I thought I noticed is that the beak, IMO, looked like it was more downward... not as horizontal. But I'm certainly no bird expert - just thought regardless of whatever it was that it's the first signs of a bird apocalypse for sure.

Hard to tell, but I'm fairly certain its a heron. Heron's necks are kind of curved while they are flying and cranes necks are straight out when they fly. that first photo you posted, it looks a little curved.

There is an active Heron Rookery behind the Union Bank on 179th and Center, and other on 132 and Highway 370 just east of the new Amazon distribution center. The one on center is hard to see now because of the leaves on the trees, but the Rookery by Amazon is still really visible from 370.

Dry wetlands impact birds that migrate to and from Nebraska

Just a couple of days back, the Platte River was lacking flowing water. Now as water is starting to flow again, NTV News spoke with the Crane Trust and the Rowe Sanctuary about how the drought can impact the birds that migrate to and from our state.

There were at least 6, but probably a lot more Bald Eagles at Lake Manawa today. They were moving around a lot and hard to get a good count.

Speaking of Bald Eagles, right down 29 at Loess Bluffs, they had over 700+ last weekend.

A few days ago, I saw a hawk. And then I saw the hawk hastily fly away. And then came swooping in a Bald Eagle. I dont go bird watching, but I always think its cool to see a hawk from my yard, let alone a Bald Eagle! That thing looked huge! I've seen them plenty of times at said lakes and from the interstate, but never at the scale of my neighborhood. That scale makes them look so much bigger.

Saw 1 Bald Eagle and one Swan at Desoto Bend today.

Saw Lots of Bald Eagles along the Platte River today!
