On a Grow Omaha minute on KFAB they did say it would be the 2nd new design store in the state.

I have been told there will be one just like the one in Gretna going up in Elkhorn soon. Anyone have any insight on location?

This was my home Runza when I moved to town and the thing I will remember the most about it is that it had a smoking section until the ban was enacted in 2008 or whatever, which always made me laugh

105 & Pacific = Acres - 0.6864
50 & Center = Acres - 0.5121

Its going to be interesting to see what they do here. I thought the 105th and Pacific Runza was a tight fit, It will be interesting to see how the 50th fits in. I'm guessing they are going to shove the new building to one end of the lot.

Also wondering what standards they will be held to. Site is zoned GC (General Commercial)

Currently they have zero green space, GC requires 10% Green
Currently the are built right up to the property line, I believe they will need 15' of green space all the way around
The neighbors to the south and the west are zoned R4 Residential so I am guessing they will need landscaping to screen the neighbors.
I'm guessing currently they are not following any stormwater regulations, but they will be required to now. Dues to the size of the lot, I am guessing they handle that underground.
Finally, I believe now you can only have 1 driveway per parcel, currently they have 3.

Seems like an already tight lot is going to get even tighter.

All that said, I am happy to see them improving this Location. Use to light right down the street and its a great location!

Are they leaving a few feet of wall and calling it a remodel?

One thing I'll say about Runza (and I'm old enough to remember when it was called Runza Hut)..

Runza's, fries and burgers aside- they make some doggone good chicken strips too...

This was originally a Runza Hut if I'm not mistaken, same with the 72nd & Farnam location.

I was by the 50th and Center location the other day and the building is up. From my vantage point it was hard to tell how far along it actually is tho'.

I really think the new prototype on Center looks great on the exterior, can’t wait to see the inside.

I went there on Friday, and hopefully they can recruit some better workers there. The building looks ok. The inside has the stone look on the walls. However taking 15-20 minutes to make everyone's orders is not going to get it done. They were completely out of napkins and none of the table were cleaned. I attempted to use a Runza gift card and they told me that their computers aren't set up to accept them, which is funny since I was able to use them there with the old building. I think for the time being I will continue to visit the 72nd St store.

Now that you mention that the Runza in Fremont on 23rd St has been closed for a major rebuild for a few weeks, the drive-thru was open at first, but it has been closed now, too. Based on all the demo and new build taking place, the outside will have a new look, and I imagine the inside will be all redone, too, since it was opened up enough to get skid steers in to demo.

That location as a Broncos was always busy. I never understood why it closed in the first place.

I never noticed until today. I was going to go there for lunch today. It's kinda hard for me to believe theyre rebuilding this location. It is NEVER busy. I literally reserve going to this Runza for when I'm short on time and can't waste it sitting in a line. It comes in clutch when everywhere else around there I'd be sitting in line for 15 minutes. Hard to believe people like me and a new building will do them any better, but more power to em.

Don't remind me, this location as a Bronco's was real clutch. When they closed, my yearly Broncos visits went from every other week to maybe twice a year?

This location is very busy at lunch time. I used to go there before Covid and the dining room was almost always completely full. But I have driven by at night and like you mentioned it doesn’t seem as busy.

Im surprised to hear that. Every time I go it's either lunch or dinner time, and I'm the only patron every time. Not that I'm going there very often though, so that could be it.

Not really a fan of the new building. The dining room is small and super cramped. The 105th and Pacific location is much better.

One other odd note about the new 72 & Pacific location, I didn't see any ADA parking stalls and I'm fairly certain there is no ADA assessable route from the parking in to the building. Not sure how you get a building permit or a certificate of occupancy without those two items.

I am not really a fan of any of the remodels. Not just Runza, but so many are just so plain and offer nothing to separate sections of the restaurant. Its just one big open room with some tables and chairs.

I wish they’d open a Runza downtown both for us downtown residents and for tourists who have heard about it.

Not yet, it’s opening tomorrow. They posted on Facebook and the building looks good but like a lot of new fast food places, the inside is super plain. Looks like a school cafeteria with the cheap tables and chairs.

I think like most fast food places, they’re concentrating more on the drive thru traffic.

Runza Update on the Council Bluffs Food Lovers Facebook page with photos

Interior looks like other new and remodeled locations, as expected. This is the same look as the one in Fremont that got a complete overhaul with all but a building tear down. Fremont is a little larger, so there are some booth-type seats too.
