Actually I think a big factor is seniority as well. The new teams to the league from the PAC 12 also got placed on Friday's last year, including Oregon.

For attending, I like one or two night games, and more and it becomes an issue as they take a lot out of me the next day. I love road games at night because it frees the whole day up.

Have a love / hate with night games. Don't like the time they end for the most part the the environment and the lighting that they can do with the upgrades done in that area a few years ago make it a better experience.

There's a point there. West coast, or mountain teams have typically had more Friday night games because of their time zones. Night games over there would start after the typical night game here, which is like 11 or midnight here. So they take the best available time slot, which is 7pm here, 5pm there. So for them, its really not a night game.

I'd be okay if the Huskers were playing at any of the west coast teams on a Friday night, that would totally make sense. But, since its Nebraska and Minnesota, well, that just says "you guys suck", to me. And well, I mean, they're not wrong lol.

I can't speak to the schools themselves but their fan bases reacted similar to the rest of us. Not thrilled with Friday night games. They didn't seem to view it as a positive. The LA schools especially don't like it because they're complaining about having to fight rush hour traffic to get to 5 PM game. They also repeated the phrase, Friday nights are for high school.

Oregon only played a regular season Friday game the year before joining on the day after Thanksgiving.

Even though they start at 5PM, a game that goes 5-8PM or so to me is absolutely a night game. We obviously refer to our 6PM games as night games, so an hour earlier to me isn't a drastic enough difference to qualify it as something different.

SI.com is reporting that Kyle Crooks is close to being announced as the next play-by-play announcer for the Huskers, following Greg Sharpe's passing.

Kyle Crooks has been part of the broadcasting team for the Florida Gators for about 10 years. Reported that he was in Lincoln last week, meeting with other members of the broadcast team

Well folks, the season is right around the corner. I know a lot of us aren't super stoked, myself included, but its a dear ritual for me. Cool fall days, football, the smell of grilling in the air of every neighborhood, the (ever more scarce) cheers from watch parties, listening to a game on the radio while camping with a crackling fire, relaxing in a lawn chair, drinking beer and eating a nice charred hot dog. Its very charming, if they win haha.

The first game is on THURSDAY August 28th. Can't remember the last Thursday game we've been blessed with

Also its preeeeeeeety cheesy its in KC at Arrowhead. Baby Mahomes in KC. For the life of me, if they lose... Cincinnati is no guarantee for the Skers.

Is anybody making plans for that game?

Huskers going all black uni's for the 11/1 game against USC

I am not typically a fan of alt uniforms, but what they have shown of these, I can start to get behind—also calling for a fan blackout. This being Halloween weekend, it just might be fun. I don't believe the time has been set for this game, but it needs to be a night game.

Might be a carbon copy of what Iowa State does for their uniforms. Throw some red in there, it would look a lot better.

Eh, I like it. Much better than the recent attempts. I like how its the Saturday after Halloween, they're all black, and they're incorporating the fans, and playing on the spooky "children of the corn" vibe.

They're really trying to invoke a scary vibe... Its a bit of a risk doing it against USC. But I like the "bet". I hope it follows through with a win, otherwise its just a joke.

Red stripes would look okay, I think. But also maybe a Darth Vader look would be pretty cool, given what theyre going for. Everything black, but with all the stripes and logos being just a different sheen, or even a sort of reflective black.

Im just not a fan of the harsh contrast of the white and black. But I think they look better because at least the pants aren't white.

Either way, they better win haha.

I think this is the first time the athletic department is fully behind a blackout for the stands.

I remember they tried it years ago but I think that was more driven and backed by the student section.

Rally House in Omaha has the new black alternate jerseys in stock.

Agree that this is the first time the athletic department is promoting it for Football. Another factor that is different is that the promotion for this is not just happening the week of the game and starting well beforehand

I do like the new uniforms - I do wish they could do something more exciting with the helmet. And I'm not talking the goofy looking N and U they did awhile ago... I get the tradition, etc. but if they're going to mix things up, then mix it up.

Two of my helmet ideas are to either do the skull and cross bones on the helmet again, perhaps with a different color such as a red helmet. Or, the new "Herbie". Heck, even do a stalk of corn... Or the "Huskers" in the script design.

I realize this will probably irks some die hard fans, but times change and these are not permanent modifications. The stadium is selling booze now, fan base is probably at an all time low as far as interest in attending games... just do something unique for a change. These are alternates that probably get used once a year.

Lastly, I liked when they did all red in the past, but IMO instead of a black N on the helmet I feel a white version would have stood out better.

I really agree, if they're going to switch it up, go all out! Forget anybody being butt hurt about it for one week.

What I think would be freakin sweet, if they're trying to push the blackshirt alternate, go all in.

If I did it my way, I'd keep the overall design as far as numbers, stripes, and logos, as they are on the traditional uniform. Except, black shoes, black socks, black pants, black shirt, black helmet. And instead of white accents as they do with this year's version, have all the accents such as the N on the helmet, the face guard, stripes, patches, numbers, be a black chrome.

It appears the game might be a sellout in KC. I looked yesterday and it was only bringing up resale tickets and the prices jumped.

Not really a surprise.

I think it was stated a week ago that about 6K of the tickets were believed to be sold to Cincinnati fans. That number will have gone up a little, too, but it will definitely be a home Husker crowd as expected. Great payday for Cinn, though.

I just heard Haarberg moved to TE. I think thats a good fit, he's got a pretty big frame, maybe a little on the small side for TE, but maybe he's put on weight. But Im glad to see he may have more opportunity to touch the ball. Im sure he'll see it. Always admired the heart he plays with.

Noticed, as far as I know, the game between Iowa State and Kansas State was the first game of the season (?).

Really early start. Its like lots (if not all) of teams are playing a "week zero" game in about 5 to 7 days, Skers included. But this was like a "week negative 1" game.

I know they've been pushing an early start to the seasons with a "week zero", but it was only one in a few.

Just caught me off guard. I don't remember ever seeing a college football game as early as August 23rd. Skers had a couple at the very end of August, and everybody was calling that "week zero", because it was a removal from the bulk of the season (I think they got two byes for it), and the actual week one started the following week in September.

Kansas and Fresno State play today, too. Starts at 5:30 p.m. on over-the-air Fox. First game on the new Kansas field.

I watched Stanford and Hawaii play tonight. The game was on CBS. Hawaii stunned Stanford 23-20 on a last-second field goal kicked by Kansei Matsuzawa. They say he learned to kick by watching YouTube videos. I guess now he'll be a YouTube star.

Game day is upon us boys!

Huskers are 6.5 point favorites vs Cincinnati, at Arrowhead in KC.

I really hope it's not that close, lol. But I've done my part. I've hung up my flags, worn my Husker hats, swapped all my light bulbs with red ones, so the whole place is lit up red. It means somethin to me. Not crazy about it being a Thursday night game at 8pm, but oh well.

Oof, so hard to make a bet on the first game, especially when its not a gimme. Over/under is 51.5. I don't see a huge blowout happening, but for the sake of Husker Nation, I hope its not even this close -

Nebraska should start off 3-0, this game in KC is almost like a home game. But after Houston Christian the schedule gets way more difficult.

If history's taught us anything, they'll be 3-0 and somehow be ranked, and get just embarrassed 70-13 by Michigan at home.

Though I'm hopeful that game may be one of the more winnable ranked games we've had. If I counted correctly, theyre on a 27 game ranked opponent losing streak

It's halftime and Nebraska's leading 13-3. The offense looks kind of sloppy, but the defense is doing pretty good.

So far a real boring game. And far from a comfy lead.

One thing I found funny is its a defacto Husker home game, and so many of those fans are Chiefs fans, in Arrowhead, and their man Travis Kelce is there rooting for "the wrong team"! Lol. Many probably forget (myself included), he and Jason Kelce both are Cincinnati Bearcats. About the only interest note I can make about the first half.

That overturn was a really nicely wrapped gift, even though it benefitted the good guys. I thought it was correctly ruled incomplete on the play as I watched it, and they overturned it. I didn't see enough there to overturn it to a fumble Thought it should have stood as incomplete. They dug pretty deep on that one. I dont want em to win like that.

If the Skers win by 7 or less, I'm owing it all to that. I'd be pretty salty if I was a Cincinnati fan.

Also Mahomes... Er, I mean Raiola "shushing" the crowd just like his doppelganger does. Gimme a break man haha.

Lucky to get out of there with a win. A lose would have been horrible and another rip off for Husker fans. A wins a win.
