Pop Isaacs now ended up at Texas A&M after the Houston guard withdrew and announced he is coming back. I liked him, but glad he is not at Creighton any longer.

Jays secured their last transfer of the offseason. 6'10" forward Liam McChesney who previously was with High Point (where Al Huss just coached) Ill St, and Utah St. Probably not getting a ton of playing time but the experience will be nice to have with the team. This will actually be his 6th year of college ball.

Saw that they are adding a coaches challenge starting this year: This should be a great addition as long as they don't allow the refs too long to review.
In men's college basketball, a coach's challenge allows teams to challenge specific rulings during a game. This new rule, approved by the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel, will be implemented for the 2025-26 season. Coaches can challenge calls related to out-of-bounds, goaltending/basket interference, and restricted-area arc violations. Teams will have one challenge per game, which they can only use if they have a timeout. A successful challenge awards an additional challenge for the rest of the game.

I'm fine with reviews as long as they take less than half a second to complete.

NBA draft prospects who were unranked high school recruits
Ryan Kalkbrenner
Projected range: Late first round | C | Creighton

High school career and recruiting: Kalkbrenner was well-known in high school with a four-star 81 grade, right outside the ESPN 100. At 6-11, he anchored the Mac Irvin Fire and was Defensive Player of the Year in the 2019 Nike EYBL. Kalkbrenner played at Trinity Catholic High School in Missouri, then committed to Creighton over the likes of Stanford, Kansas and Purdue.

Ryan Kalkbrenner rises for a big Creighton jamJamiya Neal lobs the ball to Ryan Kalkbrenner for a Creighton slam vs. Louisville.
College career: Kalkbrenner played for USA Basketball after his freshman year, suffered a partial PCL tear during the 2022 NCAA tournament that left him in a brace for six to eight weeks then prepped for the 2023 NBA draft combine. He ultimately withdrew from that process to return to Creighton, where he earned Big East Defensive Player of the Year four of his five seasons.

"He improved in every area from his conditioning, shooting, communication and leadership," Creighton assistant coach Derek Kellogg said. "His ability to guard in switches and drop coverage evolved, too. He's an elite winner, teammate and person. No other prospect in this draft affects the game like he does."

"I loved Creighton, coach Mac, the staff, and I met my wife there," Kalkbrenner added. "If you already have it good, there is no reason to mess it up. Even though I struggled, I could feel the support."

Scouting report: At 7-foot with a 7-5 wingspan, he's a legitimate rim protector with excellent touch, soft hands and 70% free throw shooting. His finishing and coordination have made him one of college basketball's most efficient scorers in recent years, and he receives rave reviews as a teammate and person.

One of Kalkbrenner's former teammates, Baylor Scheierman, is another high-major recruit who went unranked yet reached the NBA out of Creighton. He was selected 30th by the Celtics last year. It's representative of an impressive player development culture, and Kalkbrenner has a chance to sneak into the back of the first round as well.

"His size, wingspan and true rim protection fit well in our league," one NBA scout said.

Kalk didn’t get selected in the first round. Some interesting picks especially from overseas. He should go early tonight….hopefully to Boston.

If he can translate his lob threat to the NBA, few are as good as lamelo to feed him.

It was announced today that EA Sports is finally bringing back NCAA basketball to the video game.

I am excited to see how it looks, hopefully just as good as NCAA football. Hopefully they have a nice depiction of CHI. It been since 2009 when there was last a basketball game. (and even then Creighton was in the MO Valley conference, so they have come a long way in that timeframe)

Creighton is set to play Baylor (Nov 24 @ 1pm)and IA St (Nov 25 @ 1:30) in the Players Era Festival in Vegas.

Would have like to see them with a different draw especially since they are playing IA State in the exhibition game at CHI a month earlier.

Was it a secret practice or something where they didn't want anyone to know which players were playing? There is a trend over the past few years called "ICM" or Intentional Camera Movement, but its not typically used in sports reporting?

The OWH staff photographers have access to the best equipment on the market. Even if a reporter took this with their cell phone, I don't believe you could accomplish this effect with a cell phone, so I would have to believe this was an intentional look done by one of the photographers.

Here is a similar ICM effect done by landscape photographer Aaron Reed. It looks a lot better on Landscape Photos than Basketball.

Not yesterday -- it was open to the media and they had a press conference afterward. Matt D. from WBR and Jon from the OWH were both openly sharing video from practice with the staff's blessing. Matt texted me better photos than that from his cell phone, which makes that photo even more bizarre. But several of the photos the OWH has posted recently have had an, ahem, artistic flair to them. Shallow depth of field, cutesy angles, etc. I think it's an intentional decision, albeit misguided.

The Jays landed 4-star and #55 ranked recruit Katrelle Harmon today for the 2026 season. He is a 6’3” combo guard that is the 4th highest ranked recruit in Creighton history.

There were rumors that Aleksa Dimitrijevic wasn't coming to Creighton, but he is scheduled to arrive in Omaha this week after all. This is huge news. He is a little raw, but it will be great having another big that has some talent.

Jays picked up another recruit for the 25 season. Kerem Konan, a 6’10” forward from Turkey. He will be 21 this fall and has played professionally for the last few seasons. Hasn’t gotten a ton of playing time but he has a great touch around the hoop and has some great blocks. He was also recruited by Kansas.

Jays full schedule is out now. They have 6 conference home games on a Saturday....that is a new record since joining the Big East. (they also have 2 more saturday non-conference games)

Should be some good crowds this year with all the Saturday games.

That's a cool list! There are a few programs that I thought they should have been higher than, but to be in the top 25 shows how long they have been successful under Mac and Altman.
