Hey, I used to love Midlands Mall when I lived on that side of the moat! Very convenient and it reminded me very much of Kings Plaza, the first real mall I ever knew.

Then MOTB killed it.

I hate to see any business fail, but I think it's poetic justice that MOTB is a soon-to-be inductee in the Dead Mall Society.

That tall building left of the Woodman is the Medical Arts building that they imploded for the new First national tower.

Yep, not like there wasn't another lot to build a tower on downtown so we could have a 600+ foot tower and a historic 200+ footer that would no doubt be condos or apartments right now. What we got is a gem though, one of the few we didn't tear down for parking or campus construction.

Between Dodge and Capitol, where the "OId" first national tower is today.

As far as why, I am not sure, it was a bit before my time. According to wikipedia, it was to costly to maintain... Sad!

I had forgot the Mall had rooftop parking for employees and an attached Office Building. If you built this today and surrounded it with reverse back in angled street parking (because that is the cool way to park). Faced the stores out toward the street and integrated it into the existing pedestrian traffic. Put ground level retail in the parking garage and added a couple hundred apartments this would actually be considered a innovative mixed use urban development.

As long as you don't Bulldoze blocks of existing businesses to build it as they did for this.

Construction: Landmark Center, ConAgra, Heartland of America Park
Signs: Northwestern Bell on the OWH Building and ConAgra sign on the Central Park Plaza North Tower.
Missing: First National Tower

My guess is that is from 1989 or 1990 since the Landmark building was completed in 1990.
