Creighton Outlasts Xavier for 6-5 Win in Opening Round of BIG EAST Tournament
Head Coach Ed Servais Collects 800th Career Victory

The Creighton Baseball squad moved to 7-0 in Opening Round contests at the BIG EAST Tournament as the Bluejays held on for a 6-5 win over Xavier on Friday, May 27.

With the win the Bluejays gave head coach Ed Servais his 800th career win, moving to 31-16 on the year, while Xavier fell to 31-26.

Creighton to Face Xavier in an Elimination Game Later Tonight

The Creighton Baseball team dropped a battle with Connecticut in the winner's bracket at the BIG EAST Tournament on Saturday, May 28 by a score of 7-1.

The loss dropped the Bluejays to 31-17 on the season, while Connecticut climbed to 45-13. Creighton immediately moves into the elimination bracket and will face Xavier in a game scheduled to begin no earlier than 5:30 pm (CT).

Bluejays Close Season with an 27-8 Loss to Xavier

The 2022 Creighton Baseball season came to a close on Saturday, May 28 as the Bluejays suffered an 27-8 loss to Xavier in an elimination game at the BIG EAST Tournament.

Creighton saw its season end at 31-18 overall, while Xavier moved to 33-26. Xavier moves on to face Connecticut on Sunday, May 29. The Musketeers would need to win twice on Sunday to earn the BIG EAST's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Tebrake and Roden Earn Collegiate Baseball All-America Honors

Duplicating the predictions of the preseason, junior Dylan Tebrake and sophomore Alan Roden each collected All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on Thursday, June 2. Tebrake was named the to Second Team, while Roden earned Third Team honors. In December of 2021, these are the teams that both Tebrake and Roden were selected by Collegiate Baseball during the preseason as well.

A Minnesota native, Tebrake continues to build upon his postseason honors, earning the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season in May. Dylan closed the 2022 season with an 2.71 ERA over 93.0 innings. The Bluejay ace went 8-2 with a pair of complete games, posting 115 strikeouts and walking just 33. Tebrake made 17 starts, limiting opponents to a .211 average. Roden was the Co-BIG EAST Player of the Year in 2022, the Wisconsin native closed the season on a 33-game reached base streak. He led Creighton with a .387 average, 75 hits and 25 doubles. Roden is currently the second most difficult player to strikeout in the NCAA, going down on strikes just eight times this season. He finished second on the team with 46 RBI, nine stolen bases and 48 runs scored in 2022.

Creighton Ready To Host 2022 Men's College World Series

More than a decade before he became head coach of Creighton baseball, Ed Servais was visiting Omaha to catch his first NCAA Men's College World Series. On June 1, 1991, Servais arrived at Rosenblatt Stadium as a neutral observer. He had no dog in this fight. He was just there to watch some baseball. Yet funny enough, the first CWS game he saw happened to also be the first CWS game Creighton baseball ever played. He still remembers the stadium shaking as his eventual employer beat Clemson, 8-4.

In addition to the excitement of that and other '91 games, Servais recalls his awe of the event itself, how well-put-together it was. Five years later he would join Creighton baseball's coaching staff and get involved behind the scenes of the CWS. "All this time later, I've never lost my awe of it," Servais says. "This is a special event that just keeps getting better. And at Creighton, we try to do our part year after year to make this the best possible experience for the players, the coaches and the fans."
