We used to go to the original building with the arcade for birthdays and stuff in the 90's. I was only in there maybe 2-3 times after they razed the site and put that strip mall in. Besides restaurant tastes changing, and better local options, it didn't help that they were located in one of the world's worst parking lots.

Fuddruckers has permanently closed. They used to be one of the better places for a large variety of burgers, but that ship sailed a number of years go.

What in the heck is happening??? Nothing but closures... very depressing.

Prior to Fudds, I enjoyed Flakey Jakes. At one time (IMO) they were the premier burger place in Omaha. That was before they redeveloped the corner at 72nd & Dodge to accommodate the dental place and other tenants.

Granted I don't think I ate at Fuddruckers once when it had been downsized... I went when it was in the old Flakey Jakes location.

Is it bad that I thought they had already closed? I seriously did not think there was still a Fuddruckers in Omaha.

No, I thought it closed a few years ago. We visited about 4-5 yrs ago and I could swear that it closed shortly after. (would have been before covid)

It can be hard to tell with restaurants these days. Closed for COVID. Re-Opened. Closed for renovations. Re-Opened. Closed randomly due to staffing shortages.

With all the stuff going on at the Library, I couldn't tell you the last time I looked over in that direction...

Ahh, yes, Flakey Jake’s. I remember it now. It was very large and was really the first “fancy” gourmet burger place in Omaha. It was very popular when it first opened in what, about 1990? Just guessing on the timeframe. I believe Willy Thiesen was the guy behind the place. Fuddruckers was never as good, and a whole lot less fun.

I did like that Fuddrucker's had a choice of alternative meats. IIRC, you could get buffalo, elk, and boar at one point.

There used to be a Fuddruckers at 168th & Center back in the 00's, right?

At first I thought it was a joke, but that makes sense if you didn't read the other forum.

Fuddruckers was a huge step down from Flakey Jakes; they definitely weren't anywhere near the "best" burger in town. And when Luby's took them over, that's all she wrote. (Luby's also bought Cheeseburger in Paradise and bankrupted the entire chain in less than ten years.)
