Honestly, that went about how I thought it was going to go. Mess in the first half, semi decent in the second half, culminating with Villanova being just too talented for the Jays to sleepwalk any period of time against.

I'm not entirely sure what I expect for the remainder of this season (tourney included), but I've adjusted my expectations lower.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect..

Like I mentioned in an earlier post game post- the way this game went- first and second half, seemed to highlight the up and down inconsistent play the Jays have displayed through 24 games in 2020-2021..

They have been consistent in one area this season- struggling at the free throw line..

So in the end, the fan in me just wants to see CU finish strong with a home win Saturday vs Butler.. Then whatever happens in the tournament(s)..anything can happen.. one and done, or decent run..but I will not let my hopes get to an unrealistic level..This team is a mystery..

We will see...

I don't know what to think about the rest of the season. I think we will find out who really wants to play.

I am optimistic after the 2nd half though that things will be ok...not great but ok. Hopefully still a chance at a Sweet 16.

I really think things are setting up for Creighton to part ways with McDermott soon, possibly after The Butler game. The thing he said was so stupid I thought I was reading it wrong when I first saw it. It was just a complete head scratcher to me and shocking. With everything that’s gone on this past year there really is no excuse for those comments. About anyone else would be toast as well and let go. Similar situation to the Iowa football strength coach. Creighton will save its reputation by parting ways with Mac and a new coaching search will begin.

I believe that Mac, the players and the University are headed in the right direction. I initially thought this would mean his firing but he is sincerely sorry for his words and owning his mistake. If he can continue working on it, I don't think the firing will happen.

I have personally met him a few times and talked with him. He is such a kind man and really does deeply care about everyone. I am sick of everyone calling for his head, like no one else makes mistakes. If this were a theme of his, he would be gone, but I believe this is a one-time deal and hopefully through a lot of forgiveness, hard work and praying they can get through this.

Looking at TyTy Washington's Dad's twitter, it sounds like we might have a bit of an issue.

Should recruits begin an exodus, it may prove that this situation is, sadly, too toxic. I hope It isn't the case though in the end, but I have a bad feeling.

Ouch, I was afraid of that. He is our top recruit as well. Hopefully Mac can contact recruits directly and offer an apology and demonstrate that this will never happen again.

My joy in rooting for teams I love gets slowly squeezed away when events such as what’s happened this week come out..

My NFL team can’t seem to get an agreement in place for a long term contract with their franchise QB. My college football team has been irrelevant for the past 20 years and has went through 5 head coaching changes to try and rekindle past glory.. And now this with the Jays..

I honestly feel numb anymore...

Hey try being a Redskins/Washington Football team fan, Chicago Bulls fan and Colorado Rockies fan.
Redskins: change team name, lose Robert Griffin to ACL, can't find another QB
Bulls: lose Derick Rose to ACL
Creighton: lose Mo Watson to ACL, lose last season due to Covid

Same-

Bring a Dallas Cowboys/NU Huskers football fan, the past 20 or so years have been times of irrelevance for both..

I always had the Jays to look forward to..and now this debacle..

I sometimes wish I never grew up with a fan passion for teams..

But it can be a burden we all carry...

Really hope for McDermott’s sake he doesn’t lose his job. He seems to be a great guy and this appears to be a mistake and isolated incident. With that said, I’m a white guy and I’ll never know the type of pain a comment like this could cause.

If Creighton does part ways with him who do they bring in? DeVries?

If they were going to suspend him they should have done it immediately. What a weirdly timed decision, this whole thing just continues to boggle my mind. If they were worried about "optics" then they certainly blew it since essentially the last game of the season means exactly nothing at this point. Edit: I suppose the only thing would be if this continued through the tourney? Is that the plan? Did they want to just wait until the team got back into Omaha for it to all come down?

Completely agree.. The suspension should have happened on Tuesday when the sh!t hit the fan.. The decision to do it now adds an additional bad look. There may likely be some internal struggle within the administration on how to handle this incident.. I wonder out loud how the CU basketball program can survive this debacle with Mac as it’s face. I have a growing feeling he will eventually be asked to resign...

I have no flipping clue. If they just suspend him for one meaningless game (sadly it is meaningless at this point), then good heavens that'll look toothless, if making an effective punishment 'look' is what they were going for. Also, what about the kids? Was it true that they wanted him to continue to coach? If so, does this punish them with screwing up their season by adding in something else?

Sorry, I really haven't quite gathered all my thoughts on this one. I would have loved to see an announcement about him working with the many strong black leaders in the Omaha community to learn and grow, or donating some of his salary to charitable causes, or something of that sort... you know, something that could be constructive? A suspension right now just seems so weird. Maybe tomorrow my thoughts will come together on this one, pardon for the stream of consciousness.

What this is looking like now is that we have received a sugared down version of the story. Where there is smoke there is fire and we can be almost certain there is more to this then just the "plantation" comment. The players must of complained or have been complaining about racial insensitivity for awhile. They are suspending McDermott for a game to hopefully appease the players and then are going to let him come back.

Again, absolutely stupid to use that phrase, but I am glad of the way McDermott is owning his mistake and maybe can bring about bigger and better thoughts on the topic in the future.

As for his future with the program, he may still be the coach if they are just suspending him. Of course, as mentioned, if it continues to hamper the university's image that could change.

I agree with Grandpa that there is more to the story. The comments he made preceding the plantation comments about sticking together and both feet in sound like he was frustrated because there is some internal problems on the squad.

Creighton is a 12 1/2 point favorite playing at home against Butler today. That is a lot of points for a team that has been having issues. If I had to bet I would take Butler and the points. I don't think it will hurt Creighton much not having their coach so I think its pretty much a lock that they win.

Nice Senior Day win for the Jays..who got revenge for their OT road loss to Butler 6 or so weeks ago..

Ziggy ties a career high with 32 points and the Jays breeze to a 93-73 win..

Nice also to see a solid perimeter and 3 point shooting performance..along with keeping turnovers to a minimum and actually improving from the free throw line..

On to the Big East Tournament...

Let’s hope this carries on to the Big East then the Big Dance...

Also curious on if they look good in the Tourney, would Mac even be back? Or do they continue with Huss? Curious times, they looked loose and like they were zeroed in tonight.

Maybe it's just me, but I found it very telling in the pregame video, no mention of forgiveness, or yeah, he made a stupid mistake, we accept his apology. None of that. I mean, Coach McD. owned it right away, and did NOT give the half hearted apology that is usually heard, "IF I offended anyone, I apologize..."

It’ll be interesting, also, to see the Jays final regular season AP ranking..

I’m thinking they’ll land 16th or 17th..and maybe a notch or so higher in the coaches poll...

Great win on Saturday to avoid our first 3 game skid in 3 years. If the Jays can play with that same intensity for a few more games, the Sweet 16 is a possibility. The ball movement was crisp and Zegarowski took over.

Crazy that Ohio St has lost 4 in a row and is still in the Top 10. Granted 3 were to other Top 10 teams, but that still seems crazy.
