If you count fruit as meat....then yes. It was mainly a fruit market. The longer time goes on the more people forget or don't care. They want to have interesting stories. At some point someone will say that the Old Market was built in the 80's to look like an Old Market. Doesn't matter as long as I can park by the door when I go to M's Pub.

Funny story... sitting at the M's Pub bar during the 2008 swim trials, a woman from California said to me "This is such a great neighborhood. Who is the architect?"

It does--architecturally, at least--look very similar to New York's Meatpacking District. For example:

According to WOWT and the OWH, America's Most Wanted is going to air a segment about the 2008 unsolved double murder case in Dundee. It will air at 8pm on 8/3 on Lifetime.

How terribly ironic. Out of these 20 cities, only two are in the South, and none are in Texas or the Southwest...which is where seniors have been retiring to since the advent of air conditioning and Sun City.

OK, so it took me 30 some years to just realize that the fictitious Bushwood Golf Club in Caddyshack is located in Nebraska and probably in Omaha, did everyone else already know this fact?

At the very beginning of the movie Danny wants to go to college but "tuition at Nebraska costs $8,000". So I googled it and while it was filmed in Florida, it is said to be portrayed as Nebraska.

The film is never explicit about its geographic setting. However, both Danny and Tony either remark or are chided about going to school (either college or high school) in a certain state. Which one?

Nebraska. The first allusion to this setting comes when Danny consults Ty Webb on going to college. Webb asks: "Do you want to go to college?" "In Nebraska?", Danny replies incredulously. (I will admit as a native Nebraskan that my home state does have something of a "brain drain" of students going out of state for higher education, but the honest truth is that Nebraska does have one of the highest percentages of high school graduates attending college of any state in the union, and is consistently among the top ten states in the nation for standardized test scores. Just thought I'd throw that in.) Danny is apparently bucking for a placement at the fictional "St. Copious of Northern Nebraska". Must be close to Carhenge - but that's another quiz. Boys Town is an incorporated village in suburban Omaha, Nebraska dedicated to at risk youth. Founded in 1921 by Catholic clergyman Edward J. Flanagan, the community, now known as Girls and Boys Town, was the basis of a 1938 movie starring Mickey Rooney and Spencer Tracy, with Tracy winning an Oscar for his role as Father Flanagan. Rodney Dangerfield, unfortunately, was denied this honor for "Caddyshack".

Unfortunately, at least with some people around here, tax incentives are a dirty word. That knee-jerk negativism is making it more difficult to get things done when it comes to pursuing important public policy goals.

It’s not that way in Omaha.

And please, this is not intended to put Kansas City down. It’s only to puncture the parochialism and complacency that sometimes undermine our progress here.

Over the past four years, almost 900 apartments have been built or redeveloped in downtown Omaha with the help of — gasp — tax increment financing.

Very cool to read that other "larger" cities are looking at some of the things Omaha does well. I also remember KC talking about the Qwest Center when it was built. At the time they were still using Kemper. Having visited KC in the past month, I can say that the Sprint Center and P & L district have really jumpstarted their downtown, compared to how it looked 5-10 yrs ago.

It is great to get recognition from a larger city. We are obviously doing something right here. Not entirely sure a city like KC is looking over it's shoulder at Omaha though, I think they are just looking to see what obviously works in their region. I mean how many "we need a P&L District" comments have we seen in the media? And with their streetcar system soon to happen we will be saying the same things about that. KC and Omaha seem to have a good development relationship not overly competitive or jealous, we may have done some things first(CLC, Performing Arts Center) but KC has one upped Omaha's efforts on similar projects.

Buffett said he's never been tempted to move, and that he doubts the company will ever move, either, because he said the two dozen people who work at Berkshire Hathaway's headquarters also like living in Omaha.

Previously, Buffett had said his successor should continue working wherever he or she thinks best, so it wasn't clear whether Berkshire's headquarters could move. Now, Buffett said he doesn't see any reason for his successor to move Berkshire.

"No, it won't be moved," Buffett said.

That's a relief to Omaha boosters who appreciate the people Buffett attracts to the city and the way he promotes the city outside of Nebraska.

The benefits to Omaha are most visible each spring when tens of thousands of Berkshire shareholders arrive for the company's annual meeting. No one knows exactly how much the company benefits Omaha's economy, but local business owners say it clearly does.

Saw a commercial for the next episode of The League. They go to a Japanese restaurant where they cook the food in front of you, but are upset that their cook is a white guy. They ask the cook where he's from and he tries to say "Omaha" in a Japanese accent. They ask him where that is and he says "it's in like....Nebraska."
