Re: Nebraska Football 2021
Sounds like they might have reworked his contract as Michigan did last off season with Harbaugh. That buyout is probably dramatically smaller now.

Re: Nebraska Football 2021
As many of us expected, Frost gets another season to “Prove it” and he’s fired 4 assistant coaches. I suggest he HIRE a Special Teams coach..
For me as a fan, Frost absolutely MUST deliver a winning REGULAR season- meaning no less than 7 wins, to retain his job past 2022..none of this 6 win “bowl eligible” crapola..
For better or worse, the “Frost Era” continues…

...Who is going to coach offense?
Is it going to be a Ron Brown show and any other former Huskers they can find?

Well that offensive staff did need to be cleaned out.

I'm glad to see that. I think many of the fans want Frost, but the offense wasn't getting it done, so he finally cleaned house. About time. The next two games will be interesting. Will the offense tank, or will they look better without these guys around? Then, I hope whomever he hires shows some semblance of improvement.

Re: Nebraska Football 2021
Keep the fans/suckers on the hook with a never ending line of B.S and smoke and mirrors. That is the only game that Nebraska will be playing now. Nebraska has given up on winning but maybe they can still keep the money rolling in.
The Nebraska media is willing to play along with this sham as long as they get a few special perks and comps...... but the national media is going to thrash us and treat us like the dog we have now become.
This Sports Illustrated article sums it up best with this quote-
"This is modern Nebraska, and this is modern Nebraska settling—not for pretty good, or even for mediocre. This is settling for losing."

Re: Nebraska Football 2021
As I put earlier this season, the AD in Lincoln has tapped a lot of donors hard (and we won’t ever find out how hard) to keep the sell out going and to cover the other expenses.
The problem is that most of these guys and ladies have a donation budget. They have x hundred thousand and the spouse needs a couple of big gives, and the kids need a couple of donations. The balance that could go to the Skers is already heavily tapped, so they will not be able to buy a new coach. Especially if they have to compete with big schools like LSU.

It will be interesting to see. He's failed at every turn when it comes to hiring offensive assistants. It may just be the system that's broken.Busguy2010 wrote: Mon Nov 08, 2021 5:59 pm I'm glad to see that. They have doubled down on Frost and a new staff, but I think he needs 7-8 wins next year or we will be right back in the same position with a sizable chunk of the fanbase calling for his firing and a large chunk continuing to support him because he's a "Tom guy".

Re: Nebraska Football 2021
Yes apologies are in order to those guys who were thrown under the bus by Trev Alberts and Scott Frost. I mean man you can't blame the disaster that is the Nebraska football program on the offensive coaches. You can't run an offense when you do not have a legit running back or quarterback. Nebraska has a quarterback who can not pass accurately and a group of running backs that really present very limited break away moves and speed. That is the problem and you can't coach your way out of those problems.Coyote wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 8:54 am I feel sorry for Matt Lubick, Greg Austin, Ryan Held and Mario Verduzco lost their jobs, for they have not continued to keep their presence going all that well. Re: Nebraska Football 2021
I'm going with 6-6, win or lose the bowl game. Expectations are at an all time low for many. The way I see it is the team has been so bad, that if you expect anything more than that, then you are basing those expectations of what this team isn't right now. You want to get back at least to Bo Pelini level, and I just don't see it happening any time soon. So it's 6-6 for me in 2022. If he does just that, he'll buy himself a few more mediocre years, then if in 2025, they don't have a winning record, then he's out.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 9:31 amExactly correct. Re: Nebraska Football 2021
It's hard to push a narrative that others besides Frost are to blame for the issues and that he should stay while they go. He hired all of them. He recruited nearly every player on the roster. It is his failed vision on the offense.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 9:44 amYes apologies are in order to those guys who were thrown under the bus by Trev Alberts and Scott Frost. I guess his failures are seen in his pay being cut. So, it's not like he's coming out of this without damage. I really do think that Trev came to him and said, "You want to stay that bad? Give me a vision and you have to have skin in the game. Who will you get rid of? Who will you hire? What players will you go after for 2022 in the transfer portal or Jucos because your recruiting has sucked? Give me all of that now, and take a pay/buyout cut, or you're gone too."
Frost must remain confident in his own abilities becuase he's put a big chunk of his nest egg on the line by staying. He wouldn't have had to agree to a pay cut. He could have forced them to fire him.
What I see yesterday has as a pure admission that the Frost experiment has been an abject failure. It is a gamble on 2022 that the absolute slightest of incremental on field improvements we've seen this year are a trend. They probably couldn't get the donor money to fire him. We will see what 2022 brings or he's probably gone after next year.
This could either be a temporary stay of execution or he gets it fixed. The only thing they are gambling is probably tickets sold for 2022 as I'm assuming there will be a dip next year.

That’s just simply not good enough imo. Frost MUST deliver a winning regular season in 2022 for me to support him keeping his job after 2022. This “6 win bowl eligible” crapola is part of the mindset problem with this football program and fan base.. Minnesota can produce a winning regular season, Northwestern can etc etc- To me, in 2022, NU must as well- 7 wins. Anything less is unacceptable…

It is interesting. So many in the fanbase are so completely battered now that they are thinking 6-6 is "just fine" and "can't keep firing coaches. It's not "fine" and nearly every Power 5 school, including dregs like Kansas would fire a coach with 4 losing seasons and a .500 season in year 5. Somehow, that's now acceptable here? I think it's only acceptable because it's Scott Frost and, if you squint reeeeaaaallllyyyy hard, you can sort of make out the 90's in the rear view mirror. As they were saying on the radio yesterday, there is a sizable contingent in the fanbase that's holding on tightly to anything that reminds them of an era that's dead, gone, and buried. It's a pure fear of detaching themselves from the last relic of that era that's paralyzing them through fear, but I'd call that mentality more cowardice. Also stated on the radio: you don't have to be a University of Nebraska guy to win here. Bob Devaney had no ties to the program when hired from Wyoming in 1962. Tom was from the state, but did not attend UNL when brought on as an assistant.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 10:19 amAnd that’s the systematic problem-Busguy2010 wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 10:02 amI'm going with 6-6, win or lose the bowl game. As I've said here in other forums: When Nebraska went through its last "dark ages" from 1941-1961, they cycled through 7 coaches in that time...including a couple native son former players. That was during a time when the athletic department was almost broke in the post WWII years. You absolutely can, and should, keep firing coaches until you find "the guy".
Living with Frost because you are afraid of what might happen if you fire him is pure cowardice.

I can definitely see why some wanted Frost fired (I was leaning that way), but if they weren't going to fire him, everything else kind of went the way I felt it should go. They obviously need to make some changes to the offensive side. The big part of all of this was that major slash to the buyout (and also the salary cut).

Anyone that thinks Nebraska is going to win 6 games next year does not know what they are watching here. If the oddsmakers set the over/under on Nebraska winning 6 games next year you can feel comfortable betting the farm on the under. How anyone can look at that schedule next season and find 6 winnable games defies all sense of logic and reason. Nebraska has 2 cupcake teams next year to start the season out with 2 wins and after that they will be lucky to win 3 more games the rest of the season.

Next year's schedule is much easier. We won't have the "toughest schedule in America" excuse to fall back on. That being said I don't think the defense will be as good as this year with the players we are losing. So not only does the offense need to improve, they need to improve significantly in order to have more wins next year.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 11:25 am Anyone that thinks Nebraska is going to win 6 games next year does not know what they are watching here. All will be revealed next year. It's a sink or swim moment for Frost. I have been a fan of Trev Alberts for a while. Was the rope he gave Frost for next year a lifeline? Or, just enough rope to hang himself and lose roughly half of his contractual payout in the process? We shall see, but everything that happened yesterday, even the way he spun this to the media, was very "on brand" for a Trev Alberts athletic department.

Nope......I think you got the most of it all wrong.
First of all the idea that Frost and Trev Alberts have some kind of legit plan is nonsense. They plan on trying to win enough games next season to get the fans off their back. Of course that plan is FUBAR from top to bottom so it will never work. The only real plan they have is to spin and sell a disinformation campaign right out of Fox New's playbook. They will key in on some lie and then say it 10,000 times until the sheeple/fans begin to believe it to be a fact. Unlike their first plan the second plan more then likely is going to work just like they hoped.
We already have seen many clues as to what that one new lie er I mean scam er I mean plan is going to be. They are going to give up on the sell outs and sell the fans on the idea that we need to improve the stadium for the fans and the players.
We did not know 2 days ago what Trev Alberts was going to do but now I think he has shown his hand. The plan is not to fire Frost next year or the year after that or ever. The plan is to keep Trev Alberts and Scott Frost making millions for decades to come irregardless of the product they put out on the football field. Bet on it!
To be perfectly clear Trev Alberts and Scott Frosts rebranding of Nebraska will be "Hey were Nebraska and we may not win much but we have loyal fans that will back us anyway."

The fans need to respond with enough season ticket cancelations that they can’t get enough rich guys to bail them out.
The issue of firing Frost this year was that Albert had no bus load of rich donors to put together the buyouts and recruitment packages to compete for a big time coach. As in the SI article, Nebraska used to be able to punch above its weight class and now they can’t. You would need a huge amount of cash to get back in the hunt and Albert realizes that we don’t have it and won’t. The sell out fraud has to come to a stop as it dented the AD more than is sustainable, especially in a market where more and more people have dropped the Skers and show no signs of coming back.

I've been told that I'm not a "true fan" for having this thinking, but this has become a business to me at this point. The sellout streak is fake at this point as well. If you aren't being entertained, it's right to vote with your wallet.bigredmed1 wrote: Wed Nov 10, 2021 8:25 am The fans need to respond with enough season ticket cancelations that they can’t get enough rich guys to bail them out.

I'm the same way. It's a business to you, but I bet you came to this stance lately. It's been a business to HuskerCorp, Division I, LLC and NCAA, Inc. for a long time.omaha79 wrote: Wed Nov 10, 2021 10:22 amI've been told that I'm not a "true fan" for having this thinking, but this has become a business to me at this point. The point is that if 10,000seats don’t get renewed then the cost to fake it gets real, even for the deepest of pockets. The AD will have to deal with reality. The team will have to deal with reality and either get better or watch things slide more.omaha79 wrote: Wed Nov 10, 2021 10:22 amI've been told that I'm not a "true fan" for having this thinking, but this has become a business to me at this point. The thing a lot of sports guys don’t grasp about D1 football and the |expletive| going on in the NFL is that in eastern Nebraska, the fall is prime time for a lot of stuff besides football and the Skers have stunk it up so long that a lot of the fans who would have packed the bars to watch the games now don’t and when the game is on, at least in the bars I go to, more and more customers are not paying attention. As you said, it’s entertainment. I am busy on the weekends and the Skers either make it worth my time to mess up my schedule or they don’t. I see no reason why they need my support if I am not getting anything. It seems that I am not alone.

I'd also have to think that the "ties that bind" for anyone under age 30 have to be extremely weak at this point. They are fans because their fathers who grew up in the 80's and 90s along with their grandfathers who watched games in the 60's and 70's tell them they are supposed to be. As that younger generation assumes a stronger purchasing power role, it's going to be next to impossible to sell tickets to them if the product on the field doesn't improve. A few will buy tickets out of obligation or family tradition, but more will stay home, or find alternative ways to spend their entertainment dollar. Whether they invest in Creighton basketball, UNO hockey, Union soccer, hunting/fishing trips, or just save it, I can't see that call to buy Nebraska season tickets being an enduring obligation to most and, outside of ever increasing costs, a huge part of that is that an entire generation of fans simply wasn't indoctrinated into the fold the same way that those of us in our late 30's and beyond were.bigredmed1 wrote: Wed Nov 10, 2021 1:29 pmThe point is that if 10,000seats don’t get renewed then the cost to fake it gets real, even for the deepest of pockets. This is something that won't fully manifest for years, but the program has almost actively turned an entire generation off from a love of the team and state institution.

How much is the cost of a seat to an insider, though? Yeah, I understand it takes some amount to cover overhead, but that is easily covered by the fans that do spend 50-250 dollars a seat. I wouldn't believe they aren't buying them for like $5 a piece, if that.

The number of season tickets not sold is unknown but say 10,000. At $750 a seat plus seat tax, say $1000 per seat per season. A cool $10million. Even Buffett would balk at that ask just to cover the seat sell out myth.Busguy2010 wrote: Wed Nov 10, 2021 2:49 pm How much is the cost of a seat to an insider, though? And factoring in the percentage of each generation prior that turned off to them, and 60-75% of current adults are out of the market.omaha79 wrote: Wed Nov 10, 2021 2:45 pmI'd also have to think that the "ties that bind" for anyone under age 30 have to be extremely weak at this point. Okay, I was talking per game seat price. Like if they're down to the wire and have unsold tickets, I'm sure they do practically give them away.bigredmed1 wrote: Wed Nov 10, 2021 3:39 pmThe number of season tickets not sold is unknown but say 10,000. Not everyone pays a donation. When you see some step up to buy the unsold tickets, they are not making a donation (or equilvalent), they are just paying the price of the ticket.bigredmed1 wrote: Wed Nov 10, 2021 3:39 pmThe number of season tickets not sold is unknown but say 10,000. Ok, so 10,000 seats at $750 is 7.5 million. Still a ton of cash.

Where are you getting the $750 from? When the extra tickets are bought, they do not pay that. They only pay face value on the ticket.bigredmed1 wrote: Fri Nov 12, 2021 8:48 am Ok, so 10,000 seats at $750 is 7.5 million. Still a ton of cash.

Re: Nebraska Football 2021
There is a lot of talk on other boards that I read only occasionally, because the posters there get really, really into it. Anyway, I get sick of reading them quickly... I always come here to talk about the Skers, because there's not a chance I'm commenting on those other boards, they're
... They've played about the most inspired defense I've seen in what seems like ages and that's promising. I know its not great, but the most they've given up in a game is 32, and if they hold that stat for the next two games, that will be the first time they've held each team to 32 or less since 2009 (knocks on wood).
I'm not ready to make my prediction for the next game (I know its not til next weekend). I think it will be yet another close game, and they will keep Wisconsin below 32. Simply making it a game against Wisconsin is a sign of improvement.
