Re: Nebraska Football 2019
Well, Ohio State beat Penn State. So Ohio State will represent the Big Ten East in the Big Ten Championship game again. Now the question is who will win the West? Minnesota or Wisconsin?

OR, will Ohio State sit its starters against Michigan? They totally don't need to win that game to be in the playoff, if they should go on to win the championship.mrsticka wrote: Sun Nov 24, 2019 12:42 am Well, Ohio State beat Penn State. Finally! A game I enjoyed watching! (Dammit Osborn, quit running up the score!)mrsticka wrote: Sat Nov 23, 2019 6:02 pm Finally, a win. I don't care if Maryland's a bad team, I'll take it. At least we now know this won't be another 4-8 season.

Vegas came out this afternoon having Iowa a 3 point favorite over Nebraska on Friday. Five minutes later they increased Iowa to a 4 point favorite. I thought Iowa would of been at least an 8 point favorite

Let's see here ... Iowa is a rated team. They recently defeated a then-undefeated Top 10 team. They have 8 wins this season, four of them being decisive, IIAC.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Sun Nov 24, 2019 4:09 pmVegas came out this afternoon having Iowa a 3 point favorite over Nebraska on Friday. Nebraska is far below any charts. Five wins, with only two of them being decisive.
The bookies are saying Iowa is a four-point favorite? Less than one touchdown?

With average farmland value in Nebraska about $2,645 an acre and on the Eastern part of the state it being much more You don't have much of a farm.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2019 6:01 pm Iowa is now favored by 5 1/2 points. I feel strongly that Iowa will cover.
Last Husker football game of the season. Might as well go for it and bet the farm on Iowa.

Several things point to this being a close game (which I believe it will be)..Omababe wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2019 6:33 amLet's see here ... Iowa is a rated team. First of all, contrary to the belief of some, Iowa is not unbeatable lol. While having a solid and well coached defense (like Wisconsin), Iowa is offensively challenged. The Hawkeyes don’t put up a lot of points. Also- the Huskers are playing for a win that’ll make them bowl eligible for the first time in three years. Although Maryland is a bad football team, the Huskers had a dominating win over them and that momentum will likely carry over into this Iowa game Friday. Speaking of Wisconsin and their stout defense, remember 2 weeks ago the Huskers lost to the Badgers in game that was a lot closer than the final score indicated-and-NU also rushed for nearly 300 yards. Wisconsin going into that game was giving up an average of only 81 yards rushing per game on defense. The Huskers also ran well last week.. Meaning the NU offensive line is improving and getting better at just the right time..
Plus, Friday’s game is in Lincoln..and the NU-Iowa tilt last year came down to a Hawkeye game winning FG as time expired..
Now, I’m not saying all this because I believe the Huskers will win..just answering your “what’s wrong with this picture” question.. I’m on record here as predicting an NU loss Black Friday. But I think it’ll be close and come down to the wire just like last year..
Iowa- 20
Huskers- 17...

Iowa 20 Nebraska 14
Huskers had their chances for a 6th win against Colorado, Purdue and Indiana. Iowa’s defense is to stout.

Re: Nebraska Football 2019
Its hard to put a finger on this one...Iowa is a weird team. They're nothing impressive, but they've found a way to win a lot of 20-17 type games. If there's any assessment I can make about Nebraska, its that they've put up 30 something points a lot this year, but found a way to lose every one of those type of games.
Looking at some of their recent games, I think Iowa will give up a few more points to the Huskers than they have on average this year. I actually like Nebraska's odds in this one, for some reason. Probably because of Iowa's lack of offense. I think Iowa's defense will take Nebraska's offense down a notch, and Nebraska's defense will boost Iowa's offense. The numbers tell me this would to be a 27-24 type game.
It does appear weather will be a factor, so the final will probably be lower. With Nebraska's rush game being much better than Iowa's, I think this is an advantage for the Huskers. Nebraska 24-20.

Well, it's happened. After mistakes in hiring coaches & those coaches making amazingly horrible decisions, you've got Iowa pitying Nebraska. There is an article in the Des Moines paper that is so well-written. Very nice, Nebraska. How's the weather in Oblivian? IOWA pities you.

We deserve pity. What is going on here and what will go on here for decades to come is disgusting as well as pitiful. Our football program has been hijacked by con artists and super salesmen. We got nothing left now except a huge fan base and the hucksters that are fleecing them for millions. We keep saying we want to get back to the way it used to be here but its all a lie. The first thing that needs to be done is our coaches and athletic directors do not get made into millionaires until they prove they are worth it.Bob from Omaha wrote: Thu Nov 28, 2019 12:17 pm Well, it's happened. Game went exactly as I expected. NU finishes the season 5-7 and the team did not quit. Frost has this Husker team headed in the right direction. Congrats to the Hawkeyes. The Huskers just took the 17th ranked team right down to the wire..
Great game. But our Huskers came up just short. This will be a game the football program can build on heading into 2020...

His defense showed up for once, he had a QB ready to play (McCaffrey) and then decided to ride Martinez to snatch a loss from the jaws of victory. I'm flabbergasted. That's some Riley stuff right there.
Congrats on your semi big payday though Grandpa.

I'll say this, 5-7 is better than 4-8. A slight improvement is better than no improvement at all.

I lost the bet since Iowa had to win by 5 1/2. Nebraska did not win and Iowa did not cover my bet so it was the worse case scenario. I won 8 out of the 12 Nebraska game bets I made for the season so I am still ahead but I gave a chunk of it back to the casino at the end. Adding the betting factor sure made watching the games a lot more interesting.MadMartin8 wrote: Fri Nov 29, 2019 4:57 pm His defense showed up for once, he had a QB ready to play (McCaffrey) and then decided to ride Martinez to snatch a loss from the jaws of victory. Frost also needs to quit calling swing pass right and swing pass left. For the most part in the last two games the opponents are sitting there waiting. Even the announcers were commenting on it today.MadMartin8 wrote: Fri Nov 29, 2019 4:57 pm His defense showed up for once, he had a QB ready to play (McCaffrey) and then decided to ride Martinez to snatch a loss from the jaws of victory. All that cheer leading and positive spin is nice but that is about all it is. The football program did not improve and in fact we are in more trouble then we have ever been before. Even the ever optimistic Sean Callahan was saying after the game that if next year plays out like this year then Scott Frost's ability to get talented players to come to Nebraska will be over. Next year will play out like this year. Exactly like this year. We had this conversation at the beginning of this season and nothing has changed. Nothing. There is nothing that is going to change in the next 9 months that is going to fix Nebraska. Nebraska will be lucky if they win 6 games next year. If that is an improvement to Husker Fans then oh how the Koolaide is strong. Problem is the recruits are not going to be drinking the koolaide. As Nebraska continues to play on the Bad Team Network instead of national TV and loose more then half the time our reputation will be buried and burnt to the ground.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Fri Nov 29, 2019 4:55 pm

Viewing football through your eyes is black and white.. that’s not how football at any level works..The team, contrary to your fringe opinion, is heading in the right direction. I could absolutely care less if you see it..or not.. When things do turn around (And they will), I can’t wait to hear you spin your narrative.. Frost will have some victories in recruiting and some losses..just like any other coach. Your “gloom and doom” narrative, as silly as it is after only 2 seasons into Frost’s tenure, is also the EASY way out. The simp way of looking at things.. But, I welcome where you’re coming from as it makes for lively discussion..
Maybe the crux of your rant is, simply, you lost a couple Popeyes Chicken dinners because of your flawed bet this week..
My “bet”, it’s a combination of both...

Cowboy, would you entertain a bet with me for next year? If Frost can win 9 games next year like Pelini did each of his years at Nebraska, I will buy you two 6 packs (or 12 packs, whichever you favorite beer comes in) of your favorite beer.
If he fails to do so, you buy me ONE 6 pack of mine (don't worry, it's cheap ;))? If you're confident that Frost is on the right path, then this should be an easy bet.

I’d buy you your beers regardless Martin.. Simply because I’d like to throw a few back with you anyway.. Of course, comparing Pelini’s first 3 years vs Frost isn’t exactly apples to apples either..
But, I’ll play your game..

Maybe the crux of your rant is, simply, you lost a couple Popeyes Chicken dinners because of your flawed bet this week..
My “bet”, it’s a combination of both...
Ciao..LiO...Peace
Deal...
Ciao..LiO...Peace
Likewise.
To next year then.

Re: Nebraska Football 2019
The crux of the matter is this......No Nebraska did not play well today. Neither did Iowa. This was an ugly game. If Nebraska was not playing I would not have watched the whole game is was so bad. Iowa was so bad in the 4th quarter that they did everything possible to give Nebraska a chance to win the game. Iowa served up Nebraska a couple of wonderful chances to steal the game in the 4th. We saw the game tied with 3 or 4 minutes left and Nebraska with the ball. It was a big moment and Nebraska was not ready for it in so many ways. We saw Scott Frost calling too many run plays when he should of been passing. He was probably afraid that Martinez would throw an interception. So then Frost runs in Luke to QB a couple of plays. Who does that? Its the last game of the season with 3 minutes left in a game and its showtime and you are afraid to have your qb pass so you run in the back up qb.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Fri Nov 29, 2019 7:15 pm

Oh BS..and give me a break..
Frost might win 6 next year. Frost might win 7 games if he is lucky. 8 or 9 games just is not happening.

Thing that stinks about college football is it comes and goes so quickly, especially without a bowl.
Here's to two more months of the NFL.

Re: Nebraska Football 2019
I’m quickly becoming a McCaffrey fan. And hope he can beat out Martinez this spring in a fair competition. He just looks like he has that X factor that great players have. Without his clutch touchdown pass and our defensive interception for a touchdown we would of lost 27-10. I think everyone would agree Martinez had a severe regression in year two and it remains to be seen if he can find a way to get better.

Frost looks in over his head, both in coaching and his emotions. He again placed some blame on previous coaches after the game. I'm not saying he's a complete bust. But his offense and defense were garbage this year. And special teams were in a category all their own.
He has some challenges ahead.

True on the first, especially for us long suffering Husker football fans..Busguy2010 wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2019 12:01 am Thing that stinks about college football is it comes and goes so quickly, especially without a bowl.
Here's to two more months of the NFL.
This football season has been a double sh!t sandwich for me. Not only do my Cornhuskers stink, I’m a life long Dallas Cowboys fan and they equally stink as well. Talk about a head coach and staff that actually DESERVES to be fired..Jason Garrett is the poster child for this. 10 years of the same mediocrity and only 2 playoff wins.. Garrett has had the 10 year test and not delivered. Jerry Jones will fire him the end of this NFL season..
I’m so sick and tired and frustrated watching debacles unfold before my eyes every Saturday and Sunday. I’m actually glad my “football season 2019” is over...

Wisconsin beat Minnesota today. So they'll be playing Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship game.

Re: Nebraska Football 2019
I am totally an outsider, transplant to Nebraska who grew up cheering for a different Big 8 team south of here.
Nebraska is 0-4 this year in games decided by 7 points or less. (Last year I think they were 1-5 in those kinds of games) Games decided by 7 points or less can be, for purposes of this discussion, considered toss-ups that one play going differently could produce a 14 point swing (maybe one pass does/doesn't get picked off, etc) From what I understand (and I'm more a basketball guy than football guy, so bear with me), Nebraska's fundamental stats are more of a 7-5 team, and trending in a better direction than Reily's teams (I.e. counting stats are going up, efficiency stats are going up, versus down with Reilly). Pelini's teams had some very good luck in one score games. So setting aside the outcome of the games, which I admit is not trivial, you have a team that is tracking in the right direction through some adversity, and while not producing victories, is looking like it's closer to turning the corner. I think this growth should be encouraging for Nebraska fans.
Put another shorter, more controversial way - this team is 4 plays from being a somewhat deceiving 9-3. I think a 7-5 record with next year's schedule could rightly be seen as a significant improvement over this year, but would be seen as a definite step backwards from 9-3, even if all statistical markers are pointing to better year.
This is of course the perspective of an outsider who can say, "it's not my team" and so look at it like

Re: Nebraska Football 2019
Think you need to recheck your stats.
The Huskers were not 0-4 this year in Games decided by 7 or less.
Colorado Loss 31-34
Illinois Win 42-38
Northwestern Win 13-10
Indiana Loss 31-38
Purdue Loss 27-31
Iowa Loss 24-27
Get your point but and it is not good but it is also not 0-4
