Not sure if Creighton has a chance but they are still on the final list of Hunter Sallis from Omaha. He is going to announce his decision tomorrow at 9am.

I’d love to see my phone notifications blow up tomorrow morning with an announcement he’s going to Creighton..

Pairing with Reef, Hunter would give the Jays a nice Omaha duo..

Probably headed for elsewhere-land.. But keeping my fingers crossed 🤞 anyway...

If I had to guess I'd say Kansas or Gonzaga, but you never know the pull from parents in staying home (although Kansas isn't that far away either).

Interesting stat from the World Herald article on Christian Bishop.....

Bishop has grabbed more rebounds than anyone else in the tournament (26).

Who would have thought a Creighton player leads the NCAA tournament in rebounding?

Truth be told, if he wasn't going to go to Creighton, I am glad he went to Zaga over UNC, Kansas, Duke, etc.

Aw man, didn't expect him to commit to the Jays, but sucks to lose him to the team we are playing on Sunday.

I would have loved for him to stay home @ Creighton, but I am not exactly sure that he fits the Creighton mold. Although it is always nice to have 5* recruit.

Rumor of Shaka Smart being the next head coach @ Marquette. That would be a great hire for them, and Smart is a Wisconsin native.

Well Villanova gave Baylor their best shot, but turned the ball over more in the 2nd half than they made baskets..

The Jays remain as the only representative of the Big East standing.. Let’s hope they do their program, fans and conference proud and hit Gonzaga with everything they’ve got tomorrow afternoon..

I believe they will...

Down 10 at half. I like the way we are playing offensively just not bringing it on D. Zegarowski is 3-5 from 3, the rest of the team is 0-8. Mitch and DJ are really off offensively.

Going to need a massive 2nd half in shooting to have a chance.

Down 10 at half isn't terrible considering they are playing a 1 seed this deep in the tournament. If they even lose by a respectable score, this would still be a success.

Fairly impressive to only be down 10 against Gonzaga when they’re shooting 61% from the field and the Jays only 40%..

I really wish Mitch could find his stroke from 3..he just can’t throw it in the ocean right now..

Onto the 2nd half...

I’m pretty confident right now in throwing in the towel with 11 minutes left in this game and down 20-

I believe the Jays played with great effort, played pretty well defensively and really had good looks offensively..

But-

When CU shoots basically 35% from the field, bricks free throws and their opponent shoots 60% plus..it’s a recipe for a loss. Against Gonzaga it’s a disaster..

Great season overall for our Jays..I’ll miss this team and the seniors.. I’ll miss Ziggy- who likely played his last game as a Bluejay this afternoon.. The Bulldogs are a machine. It’ll take pretty much a perfect effort to defeat them this tournament..

As always- Go Jays!...

Honestly I thought they were dealt a good hand to get to the sweet 16. At least they got there. But this is definitely a measuring stick to put it lightly.

When you're missing easy layups and jumpers, and not being able to cover anyone, against a team like Gonzaga...you're going to have a bad time. I was semi hopeful after the first half but the doors, wheels, and basically every other part just came off.

So ends my college sports watching till November :(

Well, there is the CWS in 3 months and, gulp, college football...

In any case, I thought the Jays played fairly well defensively and forced quite a few turnovers..The problem is, the Zags are so good, you play good defense and they still hit shots. It’s demoralizing..but the Jays missing easy layups and shooting under 40%..did them in..

Gonzaga- 83
Jays- 65...

Hated losing but pretty much expected. The sad thing is Gonzaga didn't play their best today and was still up by 27 at one point. The had 16 TOs and only 10 FT attempts.

Great season by the Jays, finished 22-9 and made Sweet 16.

Curious to see who returns next year. I would love to see Mitch, DJ and Z return, but who knows.

I think if you polled the vast majority of Bluejay Nation, they’d agree a successful 2020/2021 season would mean the Jays finally broke into the Sweet 16..

Now that this has been accomplished, the bar is raised to how CU can consistently get to the elite level. I actually think Villanova is the best model for the Jays to follow. They’ve won a national championship recently and are an in conference rival. The Jays must now strive for Sweet 16 consistency, while hoping to find a way to break into the Elite 8 and Final 4..and they need to look no further than Jay Wright and ‘Nova to find the model to follow...

Making the sweet 16 was huge. Now they need to make it more and more so it becomes somewhat the norm. I remember back in the 80’s it was a big deal for Creighton just to make it to the tournament, now the fans want more. Creighton usually plays well during the regular season but has a history of struggling at the big dance. Maybe now they can move to the next level.

As odd, and petty, as it sounds I am glad Creighton wasn't the only team to get the doors blown off in the Sweet 16.

I still think it will be interesting to see who returns from this team. Z did have some great numbers to end the season, but I am not sure at this point that he would get drafted. I think one more year could help his chances, but there is always the risk of an injury if that happens.

Other than Christian, we’ll have 4 new starters next season..And that’s assuming Christian doesn’t leave...

I might be mis-remembering, but doesn't Ballock want to coach? I could be thinking of something I saw/conjecture from a fan though.

Oh that stinks, I didn't listen to the postgame. I was hoping that he would give it another year especially since this wasn't the best year for him and thought he may want to end playing in front of family and the fans next year.

Every year I hope for players to return, then they don’t..so this time around, I’m going on the assumption none of the seniors or Ziggy and possibly Christian may not return..

If you listen to the post game presser (the link I provided in my post late last night) you really get the sense that Ziggy is moving on..same from Mac as it relates to this current core of players..including Mitch...

That would be an unfortunate double whammy.. I hope Reef sticks around for at least next year..He’ll have first crack at running the point..Regarding Christian, I think it’s 50-50 for him returning. I think he’d benefit coming back for his senior year..but if he strongly feels “now is his time” he could easily bail...

That is true about the expectations of returning players. I haven't had a chance to listen to the whole post game yet.

As for the PG, I think Nembhard will be the starter along with Rati and then Reef as a backup if Z doesn't return.

Bishop really turned it on late in the season and had a good season, but by no means do I think he is ready for the next level.

I pretty much agree with all your points..

I think what makes Reef so valuable, is he’s a bulldog on defense and really gets after it. If he could play with a little more control, his offensive game would start to settle in..

No doubt about Christian. He would certainly benefit from one more season..

Next years team will be young, but there was some pretty good seasoning as Mac went deeper into his bench this year than I think he ever has at CU. There is much talent coming back and much talent coming in..

If a minor miracle occurs and Ziggy decides to come back, I think the Jays would be Big East favorites next season...

Tristan Enunura that was deciding between Kansas and Creighton has entered the transfer portal after 2 years at KU. Interesting to see if CU jumps on him. At the time, he was rated #55 nationally.

Well, Gonzaga is trouncing USC 49-30 at the half.. At least the Jays hung with the Gonzaga for the first 20 minutes of the game..

I get the sense this will continue to happen unless Gonzaga plays Baylor.. The Bears have enough firepower offensively to give the Zags a 40 minute game.. That is, if Baylor brings their A+ game to the table...

I feel better, somewhat, at the Creighton performance against Gonzaga. Gonzaga is a beast.

In other news, Jett Canfield is Grad transferring away from Creighton (with the option to return if he doesn't find what he is looking for). He apparently still has three years to play, which I would not have guessed.

That is crazy that he still has 3 years left (and he is graduating this spring as well) He is a good guy, but I am not sure that he should be playing for a Div I school like Creighton. I understand that he works really hard on the scout team so that is much appreciated but he isn't going to make or break the program.

It is crazy how many people have entered the transfer portal. I think this will just continue. If a player doesn't like the min he is getting or really a number of things, they are going to just transfer.

Agreed on Canfield; to be honest out of the news I was more just curious on how he has 3 years left. You don't often see a Grad Transfer with 3, but I've been wrong plenty of times.

I think I saw on the Creighton fan site that close to 1000 kids have entered the portal? The portal is kind of nuts, and I will be curious to see how it fluxes in years going forward.
