Assuming the building that looks like a SB on 204th between Harrison and Q St. is a Starbucks? It's on the West side of the road near a future Rusty Taco.
If it is a Starbucks it's right down the street from another one on 204th on the east side heading towards Dodge.

This new free-standing building has taken forever. I to assume it is a Starbucks but there has yet to be a sign to state that.djc311 wrote: Thu Aug 25, 2022 12:25 pm Assuming the building that looks like a SB on 204th between Harrison and Q St. is a Starbucks? The one going in at 204th & Q St. looks to be nearly complete... They also put a Rusty Taco in there as well as some Wine/Liquor shop.

There appears to be yet another Starbucks getting ready to open on the NE corner of 42nd and “L” Streets.
I’ve lost count, but I think that makes at least 5 new locations opened in the metro since last year.

They’re basically everywhere in the Omaha metro now.. From the “odd/funny but true” dept- I was sitting in the Starbucks at 122nd and West Center having coffee and surfing the web this past Saturday late morning. At 11:30am, one of their shift supervisors came to me (and other folks sitting at tables), she indicated they were closing the store at Noon because they didn’t have enough folks scheduled to cover the rest of the day (they close at 8pm). Wow. The store was busy as always and had a steady stream of customers coming into the store along with the drive thru. A ton of daily revenue lost..My thought was how that brought back 2020/21 Pandemic year vibes. This was hopefully just an anomaly.. Starbucks certainly has no issues opening up store after store here..hopefully they find enough folks to employ…
Ciao..LiO…Peace

We still find signs on restaurant doors essentially indicating “closed due to insufficient staffing. Immediate job openings. Call. ###-###-####.” And it’s not just restaurants.

Re: Starbucks Openings all over the metro
It's interesting that Starbucks is slapping up standalone locations so rapidly. Since 2008 they've gone through a few rounds of "closing x number of underperforming locations." Now, they can't seem to build them fast enough. My layperson speculation is that regional chains are killing them simply with convenience. For example, in Omaha if you want a Starbucks there's probably a Scooter's closer. That same is probably true for Caribou Coffee in Minnesota. Sure, Starbucks has a lot of locations inside grocery stores and Targets, but if all you want is a coffee you're probably not going to park at Target and walk inside to get one (unless you're like my wife and itching for an excuse to go to Target... lol). Also, with Starbucks popular rewards program you cannot redeem rewards at those in-store Starbucks locations and that frustrates a lot of regulars.
I've heard a lot of frustration from people complaining that every retail business is supposedly hard-up for employees and using their shorthandedness as an excuse for every customer service hiccup, but when someone turns in an application they don't get a call back. It seems like several businesses are using the very well-publicized employee shortages as their go-to excuse for any shortcomings or reduced hours, but actually have no intention of hiring anyone. The conspiracy theorist in me things that they're trying to leverage the widespread employee shortage to create a new norm and change customer expectations for hours of operation and speed of service where they don't have to employ as many people. Especially, now that it costs almost twice as much to employ someone today as it did 5 years ago. Again, just wild layperson speculation, but I have a few nieces and nephews who have turned in apps at supposedly shorthanded businesses just to never hear anything back and that experience has been echoed by others.nativeomahan wrote: Fri Aug 11, 2023 10:58 am We still find signs on restaurant doors essentially indicating “closed due to insufficient staffing. I wonder where Starbucks is getting all the staffing? I was just ordering at the one on 147th & Maple at 3:30 today, and the barista said I got there just in time because they were closing for the day due to staffing issues.

Is one of the under construction buildings near 180th and Maple on the south side another Starbucks? Building design looks like it.
On the staffing problems, Starbucks seems like it would be a higher margin operation than KFC or McDonald's. Coffee bean are increasing, yes. But operational costs are lower. Equipment, building size, menu size, etc. Seems like a deliberate loss of profit to not staff from qualified applicants. Until the workforce participation rate increases, the staffing problems will remain.

With Costco under construction on the SE corner of that intersection it would not surprise me if Starbucks parks right next door to them. It’s not really in front of them. It’s across the street and up the hill by burger detour, Qdoba and a couple banks. Re: Starbucks
It probably varies by location. I did hear one Starbucks manager talking to a customer years ago about how none of the kids in West Omaha want to work because their parents just give them money anytime they want it, so why should they get job. She then went on to say that half her staff drives across town to work there. That sounds a little exaggerated and sounds like somebody has a bit of a chip on their shoulder when it comes to teens that don't have to work. lolomahacacher wrote: Sat Oct 14, 2023 4:03 pm I wonder where Starbucks is getting all the staffing? Starbucks does have the benefit of being a little trendy. So, there's probably a decent number of people that seek it out for employment rather than them having to advertise and beg for employees Totally subjective, but there does seem to be a personality type that many baristas share. So, I have to imagine a lot of their staffing problems are related to them finding employees who are a "culture fit" for the place as the ones who aren't probably don't stick around (or even apply). I mean, imagine trying to have a conversation with your Starbucks coworker about the annual Fall hunting trip you just got back from or the Chris Stapleton concert you went to..
I did hear that this is the worst time of year to be a barista. As the weather cools more people seek out coffee drinks. Combine that with the Pumpkin Spice mania and a general public that every year seems to have a shorter fuse and October can be a pretty abusive month for baristas.

Omaha Starbucks employees explain decision to unionize
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Starbucks location near 125th and West Center Road serves up to 900 customers a day. That’s with about 20 employees in total. What was the job of multiple people is now consolidated to just one, said shift supervisor, Grace Anderson. “There were like three people, and you’d be doing the job of like eight,” said Anderson. Similar working conditions can be found at the 72nd and Dodge location, which serves up to 400 people a day, said another shift supervisor, Moridah Duran.

In reading an article about Starbucks getting rid of many online promotions, I saw these comments from their new CEO. It made me wonder if we might see a slowdown in new stores popping up all over the city.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/10/14/business ... index.html
Niccol wants to make Starbucks (SBUX) a coffee shop again, not just an online-driven business.
Niccol said in a letter last month to employees and customers that he wants to return Starbucks to its roots as a “community coffeehouse” with comfortable seats, improved design and a clear distinction between “to-go” and “for-here” service.
“There’s a shared sense that we have drifted from our core,” he said. “We’re committed to elevating the in-store experience — ensuring our spaces reflect the sights, smells and sounds that define Starbucks.”

Blows my mind how many ppl support that place - and that sounds like I don't like the business, which is absolutely not the case. I'm simply shocked by how many consumers easily drop $5-$10 at a time on a coffee. I think the last time my wife picked up a frozen coffee from SB it was about $7, which is why I only do it about 2-3x a year.

Some people every day. Starbucks or Scooters. I haven't been to either place in so long I wouldn't know what to order. Coffee is so fast and easy to make, I really never even think about those places. 6 oz water, 60 seconds in microwave, scoop or two of instant, some creamer, $1 Walmart coffee tumbler, out the door.djc311 wrote: Wed Oct 16, 2024 2:54 pm Blows my mind how many ppl support that place - and that sounds like I don't like the business, which is absolutely not the case. Well, it is just 1 minute and don't have to clean a coffee maker or throw away k-cups
Natural grocers and whole foods both make great quality instant. I mean honestly it's the way to go. If I want it hot, I can make it hot, if i want to mix it into a chocolate protein shake, I'll have a cold protein mochachino. Heck, sometimes I don't even have to leave bed before I have my coffee. Keep some instant packets in my bedside drawer and an individual serving protein drink at the ready, shake it up and enjoy a nutritious morning vanilla cappuccino.
There's not one difference in the flavor if you're buying good quality, especially if youre adding creamer, sugar, and other flavors. This all just makes the most sense to me. I grew up camping and eating MRE's out in the middle of nowhere. Instant never did me any wrong.
And that's all actually if I'm not getting caffeine from caffeine/L-theanine capsules. And don't worry, I do still enjoy fresh ground coffee. I have a manual coffee grinder and a French press, which I do use occasionally. But can't beat the convenience of instant. Even Starbucks makes their own instant coffee, so there's all the PROOF (insert sarcasm) you need that there's some merit to it.

I was just thinking the one at 72nd & L is fairly new. Like maybe 4 years old. It's a standalone unit too. That's a decent chunk of change down the drain (they'll recoup some on the sale). The others aren't really in my "neck of the woods." 90th & Fort
90th & Maple
72nd & Dodge
72nd & L
90th & Maple Built in 2022
72nd & Dodge Built in 2004
72nd & L Built in 2021
3 of the 4 are still new.
I wonder if they tear it down, or find a new client. Jimmy John’s would not have surprised me, but they have a deal across the street. B&G anyone?

Re: Starbucks
Having 2 on 90th so close was a bad marketing decision anyway. Same with Scooters. One of their 3 closed when kwikshop opened. Market saturation isn't a term they understand.

Re: Starbucks
I think it’s hard to understand. We have a bunch of Scooters close to each other in NW Omaha and they all seemingly do quite well. I would assume that it’s saturated, but based on the cars in the drive thru, apparently not.bbinks wrote: Fri Sep 26, 2025 8:12 pm Having 2 on 90th so close was a bad marketing decision anyway. Re: Starbucks
There's a lot of Starbucks location silliness. Like, how Target in L Street Marketplace has a Starbucks inside but right out in front of that very same Target is a standalone Starbucks. They're maybe 150 feet apart.
