The most recent runs of the HRRR have trended rain totals down some for later today, tonight and into tomorrow so that band of heavier rain just south of Omaha may not be as much rain as I thought it might be earlier - probably more like .5 inches of rain instead of an inch+ in places.

Don’t know if it’s done but the omadome strikes again. Basically nothing so far tonight.

They all really whiffed on this one. Were looking at a half inch to an inch, and potentially high school football games called off, to... Nothing. That band is set up dam near the KS border.

Yeah, boundary pushed everything south - big old nothing burger. Models whiffed pretty bad on this one.

I put down 25lbs of grass seed and was hoping for a good rain. Guess its going to be the sprinklers tonight...

Hate to be too particular, but when the OmaDome does it's thing, the storms are always coming and are in line to hit us, but dissolve, and Omaha gets nothing, while surrounding areas get what we were expecting.

This one wasn't the OmaDome, it was just a shoot and a miss forecast. An air ball if you will.

Chance of severe weather tonight in parts of the area including Omaha including a threat for large hail, damaging wind and isolated tornadoes.

The SPC currently has a risk for severe weather that is centered over Omaha. Most of the threat in the local area should be near or after dark and mostly between 8 PM and midnight.

I'm curious to see what the TV "in-house" models show for tonight on the afternoon/evening news tonight. The two publicly available models that you'd turn to this close in have very different solutions for tonight.

I'm being slightly facetious when I say this, but so far this year, when they've been more confident something will happen here, nothing did, and when they said "Eh, 30% chance, dont worry about it" those storms ended up being the more robust ones.

That said, I spared no effort in giving my plants the best chance at survival. My plants got nearly decimated four times this summer during one of those "30% chancers". Can't risk what little is left this late in the season.

Severe warned storm for some ~golf ball sized hail moving into the west/northwestern suburbs over the next hour or so. Moving fairly slow…

Storm is trying to start wrapping up too so there "might" be some tornado potential here soon if it continues the process and is able to. Right now just some very broad circulation but it's something to watch here as it moves into parts of the metro area.

Ehh, looks like any rotation there was undercut which basically means no tornado potential for now - still something to keep an eye on but the main threat by far will be large hail with these.

Some of it split off to the north and started moving away but it's been oddly hanging out just west barely moving.

I been hearing thunder and seeing lightning to my west for a good 2-3 hours. Hardly any rain. Thunder is a bit louder now, so maybe we'll see something deeper in the metro. Dunno, its just been sitting there since dark.

i woke up at 1:30 for work and it was POURING outside. Seemed to be very localized, because as i drove a few blocks west, it let up, then once i got on the interstate, it really let loose again.

Yeah, lots of heavy rain across portions of the metro. I'm over in Council Bluffs now and we ended up getting much lighter rain totals than the western half of the metro...

I was gonna say the same thing. I sat outside for a good hour or so before the rain became too heavy. I had other stuff to do, but it was just too captivating, couldn't look away!

Fremont seems to be getting hit a lot with hail lately, Blair as well. I got about 2 inches last night, West Center I-680 area. Many of the severe thunderstorms storms this year have skirted just north of Omaha.

It was impressive indeed..

As a side note- I literally did not need to water my lawn this year- spring/summer and now into fall..

I can’t remember a year I’ve never had to fire up the sprinklers..

Lawn remains lush and green heading into October…

Really, wow. I haven't used ours a ton but it has been dry at times this year. It seems like it has gone in spurts. Really hot and dry to cool and wet.

You couldn't tell that by looking at all my neighbors' yards. The people next door literally run their sprinklers twice each day every day, and yes they were running this morning after all the rain last night. Hate to see their water bill.

Crazy part is that the abnormal was around so long, it became the normal.

To think, we're still behind in moisture to the date.

I definitely came close to watering a couple of times last month..but the timing seemed perfect, just when I thought I needed to, it rained..

Watch, next year, I’ll be running sprinklers June through end of August.. Like I had to 2 Spring/Summers back…

I think I mentioned earlier in the thread, the only real reason we're somewhat close on moisture is a really overabundantly wet July. Every other month but March was well behind or marginal. It adds up.

But like I was saying, its just mind blowing that as much rain as we have had, and how the vegetation has responded, and we're still behind. I figured I'd compartmentalize by meteorological season, and even for June - August, were still behind by .43" from what a normal Summer would be.

Though I will say, there were a few isolated heavy rainfall events that hit some of us, and not others, Eppley included. So its not a perfect recording.

Boy, quite the [Foring Borecast] coming up.

Nothing but clear skies and 80's. Not super out of pocket, but still a solid stretch of about 8-10 degrees above normal both in high and low temp.

With how below normal it was for more than two weeks towards the end of last month and beginning of this month, we can use some above average temps for a while. I think we've made it past the period of brutal heat and humidity, so it's a good time for it.

And we oddly haven't really had a lot of long periods with clear skies this whole summer, so I definitely welcome it. I've personally had enough cloudy & raining days for a while.

Ya can count me as one ready for fall weather. I like to keep my living and sleeping spaces no more than 68, and when its warm and the suns out, that means keeping the ac set at 64 just to stay ahead of the curve. I cannot wait for the days I can just open the windows for the free ac. I make up for the ac by setting my heat to 60 or even 58 in the cold months, and it rarely even kicks on. I like wearing sweatpants and a hoodie in the house, so I have no qualms letting it get that chilly. Shoot, the residual heat from cooking is about enough to heat the house enough for me haha.

I really only run the heat to keep the pipes from freezing. I'm a happy camper to cuddle into a thick stack of sheets, whether that be in the house, or in a tent. I have no problem sleeping in 30 degrees, and I really prefer it. If there's no real solid threat of a deep freeze, I sometimes set it at 50. I do have Viking blood in me lol, but ironically im a Lions fan.

Uhh, I guess I'll say even if its 30 out, or 58 inside the house, whether camping or not, in my experience, enough clothing and bedding keeps ya warm enough to, uh, prevent shyness, if you will.
