Thai restaurant quaint, spicy and delicious
Niz Proskocil WORLD-HERALD CORRESPONDENT wrote:The last time I visited, it was still half Asian market, half restaurant. A few years ago, Watkins revamped the business, doubling the restaurant’s capacity. She still keeps a couple shelves near the front entrance stocked with various Thai cooking sauces and other ingredients.

That popular and classic Thai soup is among a diverse menu with more than 60 different items, including Thai appetizers, soups, salads, rice dishes, stir-fried meat-and-vegetable entrees, noodle plates and curries.

With its friendly staff, speedy service, moderate prices and ample portions, it’s easy to see why Laos Thai Restaurant has earned a loyal following of diners.

Stopped in here for lunch today. Pretty decent. Though, if I'm not in the area it's really not worth the drive from Gretna and passing up a half dozen other good Thai restaurants. I heard a rumor that the people that run this ran Thai Restaurant in Bellevue back in the 1980s, but I couldn't get anyone to confirm it. Signs and menu say cash only, but a guy that was paying for his entire large party used his AmEx. So, perhaps they now take cards but just don't advertise it?

Bummer. They were well-liked.

From their Facebook post:

After much thoughts, we have made the very difficult decision to close our Laos Thai restaurant on S 24th Street.
Our LAST DAY will be on December 31, 2025.

This choice comes from a combination of family commitments, financial challenges, and time limitations — all realities many small restaurants face. Still, we are incredibly proud of what we built and deeply grateful for the love you have shown us.
We are and will always be thankful that you have turned our small restaurant to your second home. You shared celebrations, stories, and meals with us.

As we close this chapter, we invite you to visit us throughout this last month — bring friends, enjoy your favorite dishes, and help us end this journey with warmth and good memories.

Thank you for supporting our dream.

With heartfelt appreciation,
Laos Thai Restaurant on S 24th Street
