List Of Songs About Cities

Recently, I posted that Kansas City was penned about in song lyrics more than any other Midwest city (but Chicago probably). I just could be wrong because a recent article I found today that was posted last Thursday shows 51 songs are titled "Minneapolis." Yet, they are all mainly newer songs from pop/electronic bands/singers I've never really heard of. Kansas City is heard spoken about in more solid "classics" up to songs in the present. Anyways, here's a list on Wiki of all cities. It is interesting seeing Omaha's list -- although I'm no fan of Counting Crows, personally. (This list is not extensive. I see two Kansas City songs missing, including the famous "Going to Kansas City.") I apologize if I'm mistaken, but I'm not sure. I just cant believe Minneapolis is written about in song more than KC -- nor do I feel their songs have the substance & weight that some of KC's songs do. Interesting that three of the four US "corner cities" -- Seattle, Miami, Boston, San Diego -- all have so many songs they have their own page, except San Diego, which has less entries than Omaha. Pretty place, but must not have a certain substance that pulls the heartstrings. Thats not hard for me to believe. San Diego is not "soulless" feeling, like places like Phoenix and San Jose can feel, but it still can be a city that is hard to put your finger on, imo. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of ... out_cities

LA Love is about LA and a lot of other cities, Kansas City is mentioned once.

LA Love? Havent heard of it. Of course, LA is full of artists that write about their newfound sunny CA metropolis, and those artists usually are from another city in the country -- which they write about when they miss it, or pay homage to it. Personally, it almost tickles me when I turn a CD over in the store, and I see one of their songs is called "Cleveland" or something. I think: "What the heck are you singing about in that song? Meeting a boy there? A great concert you had there? Is it your hometown?" I'm no song writer or singer, by my song would go something like this, as I'm strumming a guitar: "I love your Key Tower downtown. Its one of the most striking skyscrapers in the East. I love that black suburban office building out on that toll road, whoever designed it did a good job. The homes in Shaker Heights are sure nice, very old & custom-designed You're local pizza & hot dogs ain't bad either. Oh, Cleveland! Cleveland! Singin' about my kind of town. Oh, Cleveland!" (Lol. Just poking fun at it all. I'd personally have a hard time writing a poetic meaningful song about a city, I think...) TULSA sure has a lot of songs. Maybe Tulsa is actually the top Midwest city outside of Chicago, as far as songs go. There is something about Tulsa. I enjoyed the old movie "Tulsa" and have it on DVD.

Thanks. Never heard of it. I'll have to google those lyrics. Im curious what Moby has to say about the O... ADDED UPDATE: I googled both theirs and Counting Crows' lyrics, and of course, I dont know what they are even talking about. I have no idea what they feel about Omaha, or what they really mean. Thats why it is difficult for me to write lyrics; I'm too concerned with things making sense and being clear, and not being vague. However, not all song writers write vague & unclear lyrics. For example, Dolly Parton writes very clever lyrics that make sense. I think the songs written for musicals like "Annie" are brilliant, and they make perfect sense. I dont think a song is "cool" when lyrics are vague, and the singer is probably sitting around "smoking somethin''" when they write it. A lot of "Minneapolis" songs seem in that vague realm, where the "Kansas City" and "Tulsa" songs are more vibrant & gung-ho, and have more substance & meaning behind them. I still feel KC is #1 behind Chicago, or maybe Tulsa is. I didnt even think of Tulsa, and KC could be wrong.
