Email from RockHarbor
Apparently you guys were having some great conversation with RockHarbor while I was laying on the beach in New Jersey last week...
Not sure why he always blames me...
Here is a nice message I got from RockHarbor:

He's been on CityDataForum under WhiteSandsYucca. He posted various places including Pictures of Omaha. Didn't say nice things. Never mentioned Brad but I knew it was directed at him. He needs serious help.

It probably was him/her that sent that message to Brad but I sure would not want to bet on it. I would not put it past one of the numerous goofs that hang around in this forum to have made up that Facebook page and sent that message to Brad. I would have to see much more evidence on that Facebook page of the MountainCougar's before I could be sure that really is RockHarbor.

Alright I went to hunt down the Mountain Cougars Facebook account and then it hit me that it was one of those free Hotmail E-mail accounts. My bad. Anyways after thinking about some more I am now dumber then a 3rd grader er I mean I am even more sure that the sender of that post is one of the forum goofs! Always be highly suspicious of e-mails from free E-mail accounts folks! If I could go to the sportsbook in Iowa and bet on either it being Rock Harbor or a forum Goof I'm going to bet 50 on it being a Goof.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2019 11:17 pm It probably was him/her that sent that message to Brad but I sure would not want to bet on it. I always enjoyed some of his more level-headed commentary. Had a lot different things to say than the typical comments. There were several bullyish comments directed at him early on, mocking him simply for the length and "unreadability" of his posts, which I thought were unnecessary... And I knew would drive him over the edge to say several things he shouldn't. We probably could have done better to discourage that mocking behavior. In the end, he dug his own grave. You gave him plenty of chances to cool his jets.

No kidding. Makes me long for the days of JoeMoney.
I just turned 61 so I remember the days of no smart phones, no cel phones, no internet, no home computers, etc. The only times when the unwashed masses got a whiff of the spotlight was the op ed column in the paper or the rare event when tv cameras were wrongly pointed at them, or at an honest to goodness protest. Not entirely related to this but still.
I don't know what this guy's problem was/is but the bottom line is that narcissism is running amuck in our days.

I follow this forum because while I haven't lived there since 2008 I lived there the first 50 years of my life. I love Omaha and as the saying goes "you can take the man out of Omaha but you can't take Omaha out of the man", or something like that. Yes, I do like living in Detroit and there are things here than Omaha doesn't have but the fact remains that Omaha is my hometown.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Fri Aug 02, 2019 2:22 pmI'm just an amateur shrink here so I don't know the technical jargon for the condition but I do know that there is something awry when you got folks posting in a dead forum about a city they don't even live in anymoreBob from Omaha wrote: Fri Aug 02, 2019 1:17 pm I don't know what this guy's problem was/is but the bottom line is...........![]()
As to this forum things go in cycles. The chamber board was good for a while, Jeff's board was great in part because of the development of the convention center/arena, this board as well with quite a bit of development. Times change, people change.

I never felt RockHarbor came anywhere NEAR the nuisance level of a JoeMoney. In fact, many of Harbor’s postings had good insight. Like I said earlier, from our moderation team perspective, it’s just unfortunate it had to come this..
As it relates to discussion forums in general- speaking of the Omaha related ones I’ve contributed to since 2000 (here, The Chamber, and the also defunct Grow Omaha Forum), there has been a shift to a more jaded tone (from my observation) over the years.. Maybe it’s due to so many proposals getting “Minarded”, lol..
But hey, I just turned 58 yesterday so I can also relate to your sentiment...

I think the increased cynicism is due to the general ill will that seems to permeate all aspects of contemporary online culture. There has been a ton of great stuff going on in Omaha over the past decade, but it's been a while since people, especially people who spend a lot of time online, have allowed themselves to feel optimistic. I think if you talked to a group of informed people who spend little time online about Omaha, there would be a more upbeat outlook.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Fri Aug 02, 2019 4:54 pmI’m sure you are kidding. I agree with much of what you’re stating here. I will say- regardless whether a person spends a lot, or very little time on the internet.. If said person stays grounded and informed, any ill will outlook will keep him generally upbeat..Professor Woland wrote: Sat Aug 03, 2019 1:42 am I think the increased cynicism is due to the general ill will that seems to permeate all aspects of contemporary online culture. Possibly. I have just noticed a surge in comments that suggest that everything we do is terrible. If a project is announced, there are a number of people who either express skepticism it will ever happen or that it will be terrible and that Omaha, by extension, is a terrible city. I don't think this is everybody, or even a majority, but these kinds of voices tend to drown everyone else out.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Sun Aug 04, 2019 3:08 pmWould it not be very cynical to assume that there are lots of people online that have "general ill will" towards Omaha or their fellow man or anything?Professor Woland wrote: Sat Aug 03, 2019 1:42 am

There have been a number of grand proposals and ideas that came seemingly so close to reality, but totally flopped.
Maybe some of the older members could compile a short list of the grand projects that lead us on, only to never turn a shovel.
There was wall street tower. The rest I dont know anything about. I hear mentions of things being "Minarded", but I dont know the project that was tied to. More recently theres been "Crossroads Village". Anything else?

I challenge posters of positive one liners to elaborate on their thought...

nebrwesleyan wrote: Thu Jan 27, 2005 4:30 pm Well, the rumor about an amusement park was correct. It will be off of the interstate. I rrrrrrrreeeeeeaaaaalllllyyyyy hope this will go through. The article states that Minard has secured sufficient private funding this time. Also, it says that Rep. Lee Terry persuaded Minard to move his plans to Nebraska. Lets cross our fingers.
Omaha World Herald wrote: Theme park idea shifts to Nebraska
The developer of a failed proposal for an amusement park in Council Bluffs is now focusing his sights on Nebraska.
Steve Minard of Papa's Park LLC met Tuesday with the director of the Strategic Air & Space Museum to discuss construction of a neighboring amusement park along Interstate 80, halfway between Omaha and Lincoln.
Minard wants to put the amusement park near exit 426 on Interstate 80. The exit already has such attractions as the Strategic Air & Space Museum, Mahoney State Park, the Henry Doorly Zoo Wildlife Safari Park and Quarry Oaks Golf Course.
Minard's interest coincides with plans for a Cabela's sporting goods store along I-80 across the Platte River in Sarpy County.
In 2003, plans to build a $70 million amusement park in Council Bluffs fell apart after Minard could not secure the funding for his Wild Escape project. The 77-acre site along the South Omaha Bridge Road would have featured indoor and outdoor rides.
This time, Minard has secured sufficient financial backing from private investors for the multimillion-dollar project, but is still considering the best site, said Steve Reeder, a real estate developer with CB Richard Ellis/Mega in Omaha.
"It's no secret that we have looked long and hard at the Mahoney exit off Interstate 80," said Reeder, who is researching sites for the amusement park. "But no land has been acquired yet."
Until a site is purchased, Minard is hesitant to discuss the project publicly, Reeder said. Minard has not responded to interview requests.
Scott Hazelrigg, the Strategic Air & Space Museum's director, said Minard discussed the amusement park with him but asked him not to divulge details of the project.
"I always encourage groups with ideas to bring new projects to our area," Hazelrigg said. "They just don't have this one all put together yet."
U.S. Rep. Lee Terry, R-Neb., said he urged Minard to bring his amusement park project to Nebraska after it failed in Council Bluffs.
Tim Mettenbrink, director of real estate for Lincoln-based Nebco Inc., which operates Quarry Oaks Golf Course, said Minard's representatives also talked with him last week about the amusement park project.
Minard's group has eyed Cass County land near the golf course and the nearby Round the Bend restaurant, Mettenbrink said.
"An amusement park right across the street from Quarry Oaks could create too much traffic and noise for a golf course," Mettenbrink said.
The owner of a 173-acre site just south of Quarry Oaks - once considered for a 17,000-seat amphitheater by Omaha musician Chip Davis - has little interest in selling the land for an amusement park.
Omaha attorney Joseph Kavan, who represents the Match Pointe Properties LLC owner, said he has not been approached about selling the land for an amusement park and would not be receptive to the idea.
Kavan said he plans to keep the land as a haven for wildlife and hunting grounds.

This one was Minarded by our own, newly elected Mayor Mike Fahey- due to his short-sightedness and lack of vision at the time- The Hal Daub proposed infamous Marriott Convention Center/Arena hotel-

If someone is negative or cynical, they should explain why they feel that way. And, offer some alternatives. So, those posts tend to be longer.
Doing a drive-by “it sucks” doesn’t really tell us much.

I challenge posters of positive one liners to elaborate on their thought...
Then again maybe they dont care to commit the time for that...? It's all organic. I'll be waiting for someone to write a 500 word post that is all positive. When it happens, I will acknowledge it (if I read it).

If someone is negative or cynical, they should explain why they feel that way. And, offer some alternatives. So, those posts tend to be longer.
Doing a drive-by “it sucks” doesn’t really tell us much.

Re: Email from RockHarbor
Was it RockHarbor that thought Des Moines was always plotting and copying Omaha? I thought that was really really odd, like a child would think.
Other times he seemed normal and brought decent stuff to the forum.
His little tantrum with Brad seemed to go fully off the deep end. Sad when you guys have to do that stuff and put it with it, but definitely justified.
