Rocking Omaha, need food!

My band will be rolling through Omaha this weekend, and I need suggestions for where to eat. We're all sort-of foodies, including one vegetarian, and we're looking for the best bang-for-buck value in town. Where would you go if you had $5 or $10 and wanted to have your face blown off by awesome food? We're particularly interested in little out-of-the way divey places, but have no problem with more popular or "touristy" places if they're good--of course they have to be local to Omaha (we try to snarf the local flavor wherever we go).

Is Old Market all that? Where would you go for a bombastic egg-laden breakfast? Hamburger / veggie burger? Mexican? Indian? Ethiopian? Any other random suggestions? Oh, and we really like beer. Half of us homebrew and we're kinda beer nerds. How's Upstream? Any other suggestions?

For that price range, you would be hard pressed to find anything better that will hit all of your requirements than Block 16. It is really popular, so lines are an issue as well as seating as it's a small restaurant. Can't speak to beer places, but Old Market is still cool, I think, several fun shops to peruse. For breakfast that's near-ish downtown (sounds like that's where you're going), Harold's in Florence is good. For Mexican/Latin American food, walk around historic South 24th Street in South Omaha. My favorite Indian place is in West O currently, but it's called Hyderabad House. Random stuff, our favorite Korean place is in Bellevue, Korean Grill, while Korea House, also in Bellevue, is a close second. For a big, fat greasy burrito, I like Abelardo's, a local chain, they have several locations.

I probably wouldn't hit Upstream for beer. Try Vis Major which is close to downtown, but still a ride away. Or, you could go to the Infusion Beer Hall, also near, but not in downtown. Old Market has Brickway, Thunderhead and Zipline. Honestly, Upstream is the last place I'd recommend. Near Infusion is Beercade which is an arcade that has a decent beer selection. You could hit both. That area, known as Little Bohemia has some cool places. There is also has a soda fountain/restaurant called Fizzy's that's pretty cool. And, there is a bar called Tiny House across the street, but that's pricy. That whole area has a decent feel to it on weekends.

Where are you playing? I could probably recommend more depending on where you will be.

If you're playing more in the midtown area, you can't get much more divey than Brothers Lounge which was the original punk rock bar in Omaha. A brewery called Farnam House is near that too. If you're going to be closer to Benson, one of the favorite Dive Bars is the Homey Inn. I like that place.

Block 16 is a really good place for food, but I thought I'd heard they aren't open for indoor dining yet. People seem to like Modern Love for Vegetarian. It's in Mid Town Crossing, but that area is mostly a ghost town anymore with the businesses closed. But, it is close to Brothers. If you want divey and food, alot of people go to Dinkers for affordable burgers, but you'll be out of luck on the vegetarian options. It's close to Vis Major for beer.
