Big Bridge Fences

Post by Brad »

Random question… Why do all the new bridges around here have such big fences on the outside of them? They just have the standard guard rail between the traffic and sidewalk, but the outside has a 10 or 12 foot fence on it. I can see if it was over train tracks or a major highway they don’t want people jumping, but if it’s 20 feet down to a grass bank or Creek what does it matter?

Remember a period of youngin’s tossing concrete over the sides. I’m going to assume it’s meant to defer as much foul play as possible. Basically if anything goes wrong Omaha can’t be held liable is what I’m leaning towards.

That makes sense. I believe a person or two died, when someone threw a rock onto I-680 from.....the Blondo Street bridge, maybe?

I couldn’t access the full article - 2003- rock off of the Sprague Street overpass and onto Interstate 680, striking a car and killing a woman in a car traveling on 680

I said that I'm not talking about over the interstate, that makes sense, but why are they on bridges over small creeks where there is never anyone below.

The Fence Builders lobby is darn effective maybe
My old signature got too old. So old it was getting almost as old me as me. Yeah, it was up there in years.

Maybe it's a liability issue. Or maybe they are just being more cookie cutter when designing bridges.

The big bridge fences are to stop the deer from jumping off.

Higher fences/gaurd rails were done for the following: Deer/Animal, Keeping Persons from throwing objects onto Trains/Cars, and anyone from jumping.
