Well, it's official... we're Omaha residents now.
In a little less than 26 hours, we have managed to get our apartment, open a checking account, buy a new car, return it because a window didn't work, drive all over town for groceries (FOR THE LOVE OF |expletive| SOMEONE OPEN A DT STORE!) lease a parking space, have our other car backed into in the garage of our new apartment, and visit three restaurants and two bars in the Old Market. Not bad for Day 1.
Anyway, the view from the OM Lofts' roof is spectacular, and we have a postcard view of the 10th St bridge and the Durham Museum out our window. I'll be posting pictures after the moving van shows up with my tripod, assuming no one figures out I'm stealing their WiFi internet connection...
The trip was as enjoyable as 27 hours in a car can be, averaging 41.4 MPG in the Civic Hybrid, including Chicago gridlock and West Virginia hills.
Columbus, OH, is pretty cool. The German Village is immediately south of downtown, and is a great old neighborhood. Even with a no smoking ordinance the bars were still doing business. I'm going back if they ever give me a reason.
West Lafayette, IN - drove around the Purdue campus. The frat "houses" are insane.
Chicago--- don't bother going to Wrigleyville for a week or so. There's no beer there. I drank it all. And, NEVER EVER own a car if you live there. Anyway, it's Chicago... enough said.
Madison, WI - I would live there in a heartbeat. This town is the beautiful love child of Lincoln and Omaha. We only had time for lunch, but I'm going back for a long weekend sometime.
Minneapolis - Still awesome. Again... even with a smoking ban the bars were still full, even on a Sunday night. It's Minneapolis... enough said.
There's the update. Did you all miss me?

Think first
FYI...I read an article about a man that got arrested 2nd degree felony for stealing a wi-fi signal. Chances are slim that the OPD would even know you were on someone’s, but....if that person keeps logs it could lead to trouble. More than likely, if he/she has it wide open they are not logging it..

Hey neighbors!
They'd have to log his MAC address... get a warrant to go into his apartment (after some how establishing that it is coming from his apartment... in a building which likely has numerous wireless clients)...and then validate that his system had the same MAC address (which by the way can be simulated and altered from day to day if one wanted to). Chances are, there are numerous other people using their AP.
Bottom line... it's not very likely Big E is going to get into any trouble.
There's a much simpler solution. Enable WEP and MAC address filtering... something I can't believe they aren't already doing... unless they're knowingly offering open wi-fi access.

Hey neighbors!
Enable WEP and MAC address filtering wont do anything if the person trying to get on knows what they are doing.
I can grab packets and crak the wep implementing KoreK's attacks as well as improved FMS in mins. Clone the MAC address which is passed in the packets, and I am off running again.
Agreed, that would stop most people from doing it, prob 99% of the people on here as a matter of fact.

Hey neighbors!
Well then, it sounds like you're the story here then, not Big E.

Hey neighbors!
I'm actually only temporarily hijacking the wifi signal. Cox seems a little unorganized in getting me my cable/modem gear, so I'm making due until that arrives. I don't feel real bad stealing something I'm already paying for.

Hey neighbors!
It's actually welcome back, after 11 years... unless you count Lincoln, and then it's only 8 1/2.
All the bars were in the Old Market, so the car was parked and we hoofed it home all two blocks. Someone with controlled access in our buidling did it, so I hope they have the sense to clean off their bumper before I find them and introduce them to what I like to call "excessive karma".
I couldn't believe it though... we had two cars parked on the street in Baltimore city for almost three years and nothing ever happened. Less than 18 hours in our building's private garage and we get rear-ended.
