Seconding a lot that's already been mentioned, but here's mine:
- CB submitting for federal funds for streetcar extension
- announcement/reveal plans for revamped mercantile master plan including the rumored high rises, new civic site plans, UNMC NEXT design, former wowt site and parking lot redevelopment, and lot b development
- baby bob finally goes vertical and horizontal
- finalized streetcar design that goes to UNMC NEXT/saddle creek admin tower
- hoping for 3 high rise (200+ feet) announcements
- a major employer announces move to downtown
- City tourism continues to improve with opening of new riverfront parks
- CB phase 4 goes vertical, particularly the adventure tower

All of this. Plus a much better, more “accurate” US Census 2022 MSA/CSA estimate which will come out (typically) the 3rd week of March. The 2021 estimates released this year, IMO, were more “off” than usual…

We finally get a Whatsburger with the proviso that they sell green chile cheeseburgers.

We wake up to the boondoggle and move from a streetcar to a bus system.

C'mon folks, we can't come up with even one or two development wishes that don't pertain to grease and fry oil? Don't we already have a fast food talk thread!? I appreciate that we have some shared pleasures(guilty or not) as it pertains to shoving food in our tubes but with all the exciting projects in the works it's embarassing how much fast food lust is supplanting actual development wishes.

Those cravings are fine but how about another thread(in another forum) strictly for consumption desires?

Call it "The 2023 wishlist for restaurants and retail(including Whataburger & IKEA)"

My wish to build a 50 story Five Guys addresses both concerns.

Nando’s (new chain—same setup as Chipotle, but Portuguese colonial style food)—-fast-casual, I guess they call it. Focus is on the heat/spice.

Dang, reviewing this at the end of the year hurts. No updates from the Mercantile. Streetcar cut short, doesn't make it to UNMC NExT/Health project. 0 additional high rises announced. CB Riverfront Phase 4 still pending. Employers moving out of downtown, still. I am glad Baby Bob is finally going up, but, wow, I am hoping for a better 2024.

I wouldn't be so disappointed about that. I believe the reason they stopped it short is because UNMC is very fluid at the moment. A lot will be different in 5 years down there so I think they just want to buy time until they eventually extend it to UNMC.

I guess that why it's called a wishlist. And yet many of these are still possible but at the mercy of the current economic climate. Maybe a good segue towards a revised 2024 list.
