Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen announces new NDOT director

Gov. Jim Pillen has selected a new director for the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Pillen announced Friday he has appointed Vicki Kramer as the director of the NDOT.

“Vicki brings broad experience from both the private and public sector to keep moving our state’s transportation system into the 21st century,” said Pillen. “She will be a transformative leader of the Department of Transportation and is the person we need to speed the completion of Nebraska’s vital four-lane highway system plan and deploy 21st-century infrastructure across the state.”

Vicki Kramer has previously worked as the Chief of Staff for Infrastructure Markets and Strategy for Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering. She also worked with the NDOT from 2016 to 2020 in several roles.

I wonder what kind of 21st century infrastructure he think NDOT will employ in Nebraska? Charging stations? Smart streets? Automated monorail/light rail?

Pillen wants to cut spending. No way he is going to spend our tax dollars on charging stations. I imagine it would be to look for efficiencies in NDOT operations. Adjustments to plowing schedules, adjustments to pot hole fixing schedules, etc. IMO, 21st century just means using computers to do things, such as automation. If he truly is just Ricketts part 2, then we'll get a bit more highway widening.

Everything he's said so far, including in that article, indicates that he is prioritizing the four lane expansion. That's something he won't cut spending on apparently. Or maybe to save money he adds gravel lanes on each side and call it done. I hope NDOT doesn't kill the intercity bus projects they've been working on.
