I-70 through Missouri

I just drove to STL last Friday, and was surprised to see that I-70 from KC to STL is still just 2 lanes each way. Are there any reasons why this stretch is being ignored?

Taxes, and the fear of. MO is also phobic of tolls, too. There's been some discussion of building a route, tolled, geared toward trucks, about 5-10 mi. north of the current I-70. Too many stakeholders (I detest that word) want eight lanes on the current alignment from I-435 to I-64, but they blanch at the price tag, probably multi-billions.

In my opinion, that is the worst stretch of interstate in the midwest. Traffic, trucks and speed. Should have been at least six lanes years ago like the nice highway between Omaha & Lincoln.

2 stretches of interstate that really need to be expanded to 3 lanes. I70 KC to StL, and I80 CB to Des Moines. They are both busy every time I am on them. Doesn't matter the day or the time.

I absolutely hate the stretch of I-80 from CB to Des Moines...maybe its b/c I have taken it so many times, but I hate all the hills with semis being in both lanes all the time. It doesn't get any better east of Des Moines either. We have family in Cedar Rapids and started taking Hwy 65 through Marshalltown and then Hwy 30 over to CR (most of 30 is now 4 lanes, so it is much faster and a lot less traffic, especially truck traffic)

I SKIP 70 Driving to St.Louis. I take 36 at St. Joe across Misouri. Less hills and traffic.

I drove on 36 a few years ago when I bought a car in IL. It was a smooth road and you can even stop in Hannibal, MO and paint the fence.

I usually go south on 63 from Macon to Columbia. Then 70 to St. Louis.
