USSTRATCOM opens new office for electromagnetic operations
Office will oversee training and preparations]



The battle over the electromagnetic spectrum has a new player. The United States Strategic Command has stood up a new office to oversee the military’s use of the spectrum. It’s called the Joint Electromagnetic Operations Center, or JEC, and is located inside the USSTRATCOM headquarters at Offutt AFB. “We are consolidating all of the operational activities in the EMS enterprise,” said Brigadier General AnnMarie Anthony, who will be director of the JEC. She told KETV Newswatch 7 that every branch of the U.S. military depends on the spectrum. "When we use radios, we are using the electromagnetic spectrum and then you can think radars. You've all seen the air traffic control radars to show where planes are flying so it is really part of every single warfighting domain," she said. Recently I asked General Anthony Cotton, the Commander of USSTRATCOM about using the electromagnetic spectrum for national defense.

He called it critical.
