Mid-America Center transforms to host new arena football team Iowa Rampage



COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — A new professional sports team is making its way to Council Bluffs: the Iowa Rampage of the new relaunch of the Arena Football League. The league is not to be confused with the National Arena League, which the Omaha Beef is a part of. The rampage will be playing at the Mid-America Center and began the process of transitioning the arena into a football arena on Monday. A process that takes hundreds and hundreds of feet of foam matting and turf, that also takes all day. “We’re taking it a lot further than what other teams normally do,” Rampage owner Trevor Burdett said.

Twenty-four hours and a lot of turf later, the arena goes from hosting dance competitions to a 50-yard AFL field. The Rampage's first game will be on April 17, at the Mid-America Center.

I wonder what this really means. For the sake of keeping costs down, I cannot see them doing any more than is required to be compliant with what is needed. Nice marketing statement at best.

I'm surprised that any of these arena leagues stay afloat. The fact that even more than one exists is shocking, IMO.

They come and go.. There are a fair amount of people who think this one won’t last past this year, if that long.

I agree, can't believe that these leagues exist. I understand for smaller communities like maybe Cedar Rapids, IA, where my wife if from. There really isn't anything else to do in a town of around 125,000 so it is a good community event that people can go to. But for there to be more than one in the Omaha area, is just crazy. I would like to know who funds these sort of things. Surely there is some decent expense involved, between rent for the facility, staff, paying players. It just doesn't seem like it has a chance to succeed even from the beginning.

IF I were to go I sure wouldn't buy SEASON tickets! It is better to buy the single game the day of so that there is a chance of it taking place.

Iowa Rampage gear up for inaugural AFL season



COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — Wednesday marked day one for the Iowa Rampage in Council Bluffs. The Rampage, an Arena Football League team, are set for their inaugural season to start next week with an exhibition game on April 17. Players and coaches took in the sights of their new home at the Mid-America Center on Wednesday. The team also received all their gear including helmets and pads. “It almost brought back butterflies, but it was a very good feeling. Happy to be back around football getting that comradery with the guys and stuff like that,” Rampage linebacker and fullback Jair Myrick said. Rampage general manager and Iowa native Tony Doremus has experience in the world of arena football dating back to the Iowa Blackhawks.

Arena football returns to Council Bluffs



COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (WOWT) - A brand new floor is being installed inside the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs — and that new floor comes with a new team. The Iowa Rampage are coming and they’re bringing arena football back to Council Bluffs. Work crews are busy converting the 7,000-seat venue into a 50-yard football field. History indicates the Rampage will be a good fit for the Council Bluffs community. “We’re bringing back arena football for the first time since 2013 here at the Mid-America Center,” said Iowa Rampage GM Tony Doremus. “I was a part of the Iowa Blackhawks back in its inceptions. It’s a great day to bring it back not just into the community, but also my hometown.”

Iowa Rampage lasted a few weeks into the season.

The AFL team announced on social media that they are discontinuing operations, effective immediately.
The team started its first season in April.
