What a sad, sad story it is that Nebraska (and out of state) Republicans continue to press this issue. Simply shows how scared they are that our relatively small population can impact the presidential election. Don't they have anything else better to do with their time? For example, push for his billions of dollars in property tax relief that neither party supports?
I'm sure this state will likely never elect a Democrat for a governor. That's fine - and I have never voted all Republican or all Democrat - As a matter of fact, I've crossed part lines on a regular basis. However, this is a blatant attempt at trying to cutoff a chance there are enough Nebraskans to vote for Harris that it could affect the outcome of the election.
Anyone that wants to vote for a guy that says, "They are eating the dogs... they are eating the cats..." has that choice - and it's their choice. That's probably not even the latest dumb-assery comment to come out of his mouth in the past 7 days. But the fact our amazing governor wants to try and impede due process and how the laws are written at this time is pathetic.
It's extremely sad that Pillen is nothing more than a toy in Rickett's pathetic pocket.

Former Democrat, Mike McDonnell, who is now a Republican state senator until this year might be the deciding vote if Omaha is going to maintain its blue dot. Last Spring, he said that he opposed a winner-take-all system, but it seems likely that he may flip on this issue.

Re: Winner Takes All... again on the table
I feel like people in Omaha have different priorities that we would vote for. We may also be more worldly being exposed to other walks of life than those in small town Nebraska. I grew up in a very small town in rural Nebraska and if I stayed there, I think I would be a much different person today with ideals not like they currently stand.
I don't believe much in horoscopes and astrological signs, but I've always been fond of the Libra mentality that I like things to be fair and right now they want to change the rules when that rule change would benefit them. If roles were reversed and Democrats did the same, I feel like Republicans would be all up in arms over the mere mention of it.

Re: Winner Takes All... again on the table
I remember reading somewhere that if Nebraska would go through with becoming a winner takes all state, Maine, the other winner by district state, said they would do the same. And with Maine being the reverse of Nebraska and primarily blue except for one district, it would negate the change we make to become a winner take all state.
Weather Maine would go through with it or not is up in the air, but if both states made the change to winner takes all, it makes Nebraska's elections less fair and less representative of the population while simultaneously accomplishing absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Winner take all is kind of a weird system anyway. The electoral college has so many flaws.

State Sen. Mike McDonnell announced today that he will not agree to change the status quo six weeks before the election. Therefore, at least for this election, Omaha appears to be keeping its own electoral vote.

I'm a Federalist and a fan of the Electoral College, but this changing the allocation with six weeks left rubbed me the wrong way. Put it on the 2026 ballot.
Of course, the rule should have never been changed in the first place.

Anyone notice all the ads pumping up McDonnell after all this? Seems pretty obvious he'll be running against Stothert, catering to the anti street car sentiments (which they've already exchanged blows on).

So since he switched parties he would be trying to beat her in the primary? How many republicans will still be pisssed about the blue dot?Stargazer wrote: Sat Oct 19, 2024 2:50 am Anyone notice all the ads pumping up McDonnell after all this? Omaha does blanket primaries for Mayor, so they would be in the primary together no matter their partiesnebport5 wrote: Sat Oct 19, 2024 9:27 amSo since he switched parties he would be trying to beat her in the primary?
