Cities around us have decent comic cons attracting a lot of people with celebrity guests.
In 2001 we had Alpha-con that seemed like a big success. Mark Hamill was supposed to be there but got sick at the last moment, but we had a good time meeting Anthony Daniels, Warwick Davis, Peter Mayhew, and others.
Why do you think there hasn’t been another big event like that one in Omaha since? They’ve only become more popular and I think it could be a huge event at the CHI.

Agreed. O Comic Con is laughable. Sioux Falls and Des Moines have much, much better shows.

Re: Omaha Comic Convention
I can't figure it out and the O Comic Con isn't even in Omaha. I applaud the organizers for what they are trying to do as a mom and pop event, but it's not really worth attending for anyone that's ever been to an event in a bigger city. So, it becomes chicken and egg standoff. They'll say we won't get a bigger event until we support the one we have, but many won't start attending the one we have until it gets better. To me, it's sad that Sioux Falls and Des Moines can get bigger events than Omaha with better guest lists. KC hosts planet every year.Agibson951 wrote: Fri Feb 21, 2025 10:05 pm Cities around us have decent comic cons attracting a lot of people with celebrity guests.

the CHI Center would be great for a real convention with a robust guest list and real vendors that aren't just the same local comic chops and creators that show up at multiple local events a year.
Disappointing.

Re: Omaha Comic Convention
Wasn’t the last Omaha-branded one in Council Bluffs at the MAC?

Right now O Comic Con has Hacksaw Jim Dugan and Amanda Bearse as their main celebrity guests. If Comic Con Nebraska can get 5-10 decent celebrities, they will become the primary con.

Sorry for this dumb question, but do they typically have toys/toy vendors at these, or is it straight comic books?Stan wrote: Mon Apr 21, 2025 8:28 am Right now O Comic Con has Hacksaw Jim Dugan and Amanda Bearse as their main celebrity guests. I feel like the good Comic Cons have a good variety of vendors including toys, apparel, etc.djc311 wrote: Mon Apr 21, 2025 9:50 amSorry for this dumb question, but do they typically have toys/toy vendors at these, or is it straight comic books?Stan wrote: Mon Apr 21, 2025 8:28 am Right now O Comic Con has Hacksaw Jim Dugan and Amanda Bearse as their main celebrity guests. Looks like they will be doing without the celebs at least for the first one. More concentrated on artists/creators. I agree though - to pull in a lot of people, you need to have a few celebs.Stan wrote: Mon Apr 21, 2025 8:28 am Right now O Comic Con has Hacksaw Jim Dugan and Amanda Bearse as their main celebrity guests. O Comic Con just doesn’t have the vendors, particularly comic-related items. Which is odd. For a comic con. I’m not going to pay admission to buy from local stores that I can enter for free, just so I can also see a stand of jewelry and a tattoo artist.
